The author provides a number of very good approaches toward improving liver function. The work will be helpful for hepatitis B,C patients, as well as, a tonic for general health.

The book advises us to listen to our bodies and drink up to 12 glasses of water daily. The mainstay of the diet includes low fat protein, seeds, nuts and soy.

Our main objective in the daily diet is to reduce white sugar consumption, gluten,
allergy foods (i.e. lobster)and promote intestinal hygiene.

Certain supplements aid in liver function. i.e.
o taurine
o dandelion
o milk thistle
o livatone +

Good sources of daily nutrition are:
o avocado
o tuna
o melon
o leek soup
o lentil soup
o zucchini

This book is excellent for anyone attempting to craft a model diet and feel better naturally without the use of too many drugs and/or inorganic substances.

A cancer diagnosis always causes fear. All of us have seen relatives and friends destroyed by conventional cancer treatment. I wish the sugar free recipes weren't prepared with Splenda. I personally use agave nectar or stevia to bake my desserts. Stevia can be funky to bake with but it's possible with practice and agave nectar is simply magic. It's a low glycemic fructose from a mexican cactus and it can be used in coffee, in any beverages or smoothies, pies, muffins, etc...
The other recipes look quite interesting but there's nothing exceptional here. Like the title of this message says: Can I return this book?

Help for a Celiac Newbie 5 out of 5 stars.

I had never heard of Celiac Disease until I got a call from my Dr saying I had tested positive. After five minutes on the Internet I began to cry!! What CAN I eat?? This is the first cook book I bought when at a nutritional store for the first time (Talk about overwhelmed!!). As I read through this book I received my first ray of hope that I CAN do this. I have tried some of the recipes all with good results. The bread I made is simply delicious. I actually can have sandwiches!!! I am going to give away all my other cookbooks ( I have quite a collection from the past forty years or so) and just keep Bette's. I will say that some of the ingredients are not the most healthy (Butter flavored Crisco), but let me be honest, I didn't always cook or eat totally healthy (croissants, pie, cake, cinnamon buns) before my diagnoses! It is a wonderful encouragement to me to know, that while I cannot make a steady diet of these treats, I can make them for myself fairly easily. I highly recommend this cookbook for those who are willing to put some initial time into advance preparation. Frankly, I am thrilled to know I can enjoy pumpkin pie and my family's traditional corn bread stuffing this Thanksgiving!

This is the low-fat book cooks who care about wholesome, vegetarian-inspired food have been waiting for. Each of the more than 280 recipes are as delicious and trustworthy as those in the Moosewood Collective's previous books, and vibrant flavors and generous portions are still a hallmark of every dish. Because the Collective's primary goal is always to make great tasting food they resisted the notion of doing a low-fat book until they were convinced they could make low-fat dishes as flavor-packed as their regular favorites. "We've mostly been interested in gourmet cuisine at Moosewood Restaurant, not deprivation diet food," say the authors. I actually got this for a friend - I wouldn't part with mine. What I like about this is that there's no counting. You look at your plate and understand what your body will do when you eat it. While I don't agree with everything (good luck taking away my coffee and beer), the principle is sound. Like all diet plans, take what works for you and merge it with the rest of your knowledge to create a balanced diet that works for you.

I did get a few of the later books, and got the feeling that the publisher found out there was money to be made. Not much new in the cookbooks.

This is an excellent program and has helped me to feel better and lose weight on a diet I can maintain. It combines the best of low carb diets with lots of vegetables and some healthy carbs like fruits and grains. This book explains her program in a clear and concise way unlike its successors. I highly recommend The Schwarzbein Principle Cookbook as well.

I became quite interested in Dr. Budwig's work through research. My chemistry skills are pretty old, so I struggled mightily through her lectures embodied in the companion volume "Flas Oil As a True Aid ..." etc.

Now, this book is supposed to be a cookbook. The substantial value of the diet is the preparation of the flax-based key ingredients that are then replicated in every ensuing recipe.

What this book needed was a decent editor. It is a translation of work that was mainly done 60 years ago! One cannot go to Germany circa 1960 in order to implement the food plan, and so the editors needed to do just a little bit of work to make this relatively painless for implementation.

There is virtually NO decent editing work done here, and the references to Dr. Budwig's patented, offered products is not suitable. For instance, one of the key ingredients in these recipes is a "Muesli" carefully designed by Dr. Budwig. (One of her colleagues stated that he wished the beneficiaries of this diet - the users - all had a PhD in chemistry so they could understand the quality of Dr. Budwig's work.)

This Muesli ("Linomel") was once branded by Dr. Budwig, apparently, and the book references an 800 number to call. However, when you do call, they tell you that was a "misprint" in the book, and that they sell flax seed oil, and not "Linomel," Dr. Budwig's patented product.

The fact is, you will look in vain for what Linomel truly is, and therefore will have to go without it. Some internet sites tell you to simply use 4 teaspoons of freshly-ground flax seeds, and to eat them within 20 minutes. Others simply replace it with flax seed oil and cottage cheese, which, in the book, is called something else.

Therefore, when buying this book, be prepared to do a whole lot of head-scratching and web searching to get the basic ingredients down.

Also, be prepared to pay a fortune for your flax seed oil, as the cheapest it can be found, even buying bulk, is $12.50/qt. More likely you will be paying around $15 per cup!

This is an excellent book that goes into the hows and whys of the various anti-cancer foods. The book is filled with great info you won't easily find elsewhere, such as that not all Green Tea is the same when it comes to EGCG content (Japanese Green Tea has more than Chinese Green Tea). Why not swing the odds of living a long healthy life in your favor as much as possible? Eat the foods talked about in this book and you'll increase your odds of dodging the cancer bullet.

It is difficult to eat well when fighting cancer. This book makes it easy to understand simple changes to make and foods to include. When dealing with low energy, it helps to keep food inspiring, and to make it simple. The book is beautiful, and makes it easy to want to make healthier choices. I also love the companion book "cooking with foods to fight cancer."
