Reversing Diabetes 5 out of 5 stars.

I am very satisfied with the book. I have lowered my blood sugar by more than 100 points with the information provided in the book.(watching what I eat as well as a regular exercise program) Thank You

Helped me to understand diabetes better. 5 out of 5 stars.

I was diagnosed a month ago with type 2 diabetes. Although I have a very mild form of it and my doctor is hopeful that it can be reversed I was terrified. I didn't want to go down the road of amputations, blindness, and kidney disease. That's when I found this book. I have a better understanding of diabetes now and a low glycemic diet makes perfectly good sense to me. I've been eating a plant based diet for a month and have lost 21 pounds and my blood sugars are normal.

There are quite a few reviews that say diabetics need to avoid carbohydrates-that's horse and buggy thinking. It is now known that diabetics need carbohydrates-it is the fuel that our bodies use. What diabetics need to change is the source of those carbohydrates. The less refined food we eat the better blood sugar control we have. As Dr. Whitaker says it's not the quantity of carbohydrates it's the quality. So those people with negative reviews either haven't kept up to date with the latest diabetes information or they didn't read the book. I'm even going to send this to my sister whose diabetes is out of control. Maybe it will help her as it's done for others.

Editorial Review:

In a completely revised and updated edition of REVERSING DIABETES, Dr Julian Whitaker offers a comprehensive life-style programme that has helped more than 10,000 diabetic patients. The good news is that many diabetics can control their condition - naturally and effectively - with diet and exercise. Along with helping to reduce or even eliminate dependancy on medication, it can help diabetics lose excess weight and lower cholesterol levels, blood pressure and risk of heart attack.

You don't need to have Diabetes to love this book. 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is my favorite new cookbook in 20 years. Now, to be totally fair, I'm not much of a cookbook kind of gal. I have a handful of family recipes I usually rotate through without having them written down, and I never cared much for cooking or eating in the first place. I have spent the last two months, though, trying out a large sampling of the recipes in this book, and the whole family loves them. I really like one-pot-meals because I get flustered trying to time too many different pots and pans at once, with a pesky toddler getting into the clean dishes, and older kids asking for help with homework. These recipes are clear and easy and extremely delicious. I can get them done in a very reasonable amount of time. The flavors, variety, and ease of preparation can't be beat. And I love the nutritional breakdown; easy to use, even for those of us new to the nutritional needs of a type I diabetic.

Editorial Review:

Editorial Review:

Diabetes has become a seemingly unstoppable national epidemic, affecting more than twenty million Americans. Conventional wisdom calls it incurable, but renowned Dr. Gabriel Cousens counters that claim with this breakthrough book. There Is a Cure for Diabetes lays out a three-week plan for reversing the negative genetic expression of diabetes to a physiology of health and well-being. Dr. Cousens’s method, widely tested at his famous Tree of Life centers, is to reset the DNA through green juice fasting and a 100% organic, nutrient-dense, vegan, low-glycemic, low-insulin-scoring, and high-mineral diet of living foods in the first twenty-one days. Both practical and inspirational, the book explains how to abandon the widespread “culture of death”–symbolized by addictive junk food–that fosters diabetes in favor of a more natural, nurturing approach. The program renders insulin and related medicines unnecessary within four days as the blood sugar drops to normal levels; and the diabetic shifts into a non-diabetic physiology within two weeks. The third week focuses on live-food preparation, featuring 100 delicious raw recipes. Dr. Cousens emphasizes regular consultations, monitoring blood chemistries, and emotional support, and includes a one-year support program to help maintain a diabetes-free life.

Simple and useful 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I'm newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I bought this and another book after checking the web for diet guidlines and mostly finding "eat healthy" or "buy my pills." The most helpful parts of this book for me are

Diet - Remember serving size. A high glycemic index isn't bad if the serving size is small. This is the difference between glycemic load (what a serving will do to your blood glucose) and glycemic index (what a 'standard ammount' would do). And a little sugar is o.k. (I eat 1-2 Dove dark chocolate pieces after dinner.)

Exercise - Maximum improvement using insulin to process blood glucose with minimum perceived effort comes from walking 40 minutes every other day.

It's been 6 weeks since I started taking meds and about a month since I started following the exercise and diet suggestions. All my blood glucose readings for the last two weeks have been under 125.

Editorial Review:

The New Glucose Revolution for Diabetes is the first comprehensive guide to using the glycemic index to control type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, and more. The book features the latest, most accurate information with new findings by the authors. It includes GI-based recipes and menus for type 1, type 2, prediabetes, gestational diabetes, and juvenile diabetes, as well as related conditions like obesity and celiac disease, plus practical dietary guidance on sugar, sweeteners, alcohol, snacking, and eating out.

Twice as tasty . . . but with half the ingredients!

People with diabetes want heart-healthy recipes, since heart disease strikes people with diabetes twice as often as the rest of the population. But they also want recipes that taste great. In Diabetes & Heart Healthy Meals for Two, the two largest health associations in America team up to provide recipes that are simple, flavorful, and perfect for people with diabetes who are worried about improving or maintaining their cardiovascular health. A follow-up to Diabetes & Heart Healthy Cookbook, published in 2006, this newest collaboration from the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association focuses on meals with only two servings. Because so many adults with diabetes are older, two-serving meals are perfect for those without children in the house—or even those living alone who want to keep leftovers to a minimum.

This book has made it easier to find tasty recipes that I can eat. I am loosing weight but not feeling deprived because I can snack and even eat desserts and the recipes that I have tried from this book have been tasty and easy to make.

Not what I expected 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

It had some good recipes to try but for the most part not anything great. A lot of it is time consuming and not a "ready" snack.

Yummy 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Lots of great quick recipes for the diabetic.

The volume I got has been evidently used by a 'heavy' smoker and still carries the scent. Nothing against this book, but the particular seller. This means I will buy more new and less used books in the future.
