Not So Accurate 2 out of 5 stars.
11 of 12 people found this review helpful.

This book really didn't help me much. The foods that are on the "allow" list are in actuality NOT allowed and can really set a candida patient back on their quest for health. I would not recommend to someone that is truly fighting this disease.

Decent. 4 out of 5 stars.

I like this cookbook. It is not quite as restrictive as some other candida diets, so that should be kept in mind for those searching for a way to conquer candida. Also, it is a cookbook, not a health book, so it does not go into great depth about candida, though it does offer some useful information. I would not make this my primary reference book on candida. I like the book for its simple, healthy whole foods recipes, though.

Good general information about food 5 out of 5 stars.
15 of 15 people found this review helpful.

If you want to get a quick course in general information about food, this is a very good reference. It gives a good layman's introduction to yeast related health problems and how to avoid them.

It teaches you how to rotate your diet to find out what foods you are potentially sensitive/allergic to. Basic allergy testing doesn't uncover problems for everyone, so this information can be pretty helpful--and it's a lot less expensive than extensive testing that some health practicioners provide.

I've lost 40 lbs on the Caveman diet shown in the book and feel better and have more energy than I have in a while. My dermotologist actually prescribed it for 6 months: the diet is legit. It's not easy nor is it delicious, and it takes discipline and a completely different way of looking at food: as fuel rather than comfort/security, entertainment, pleasure, social bonding, etc.

Like other reviewers, I can't eat a lot of the recipes in the book. I agree that the recipes are the least helpful part of this manual. The part of the book I really like is the reference section on vegetables. There is a quick paragraph about each veggie along with the family it comes from (did you know that white potatoes are in the nightshade family?) There are great tips for buying and preparing veggies, including some veggies I've never heard of before. That section is a must-read for people who don't know a lot about vegetables and want to start eating more of them.

The other part of the book I liked was the part about poisons and chemicals in the food supply. It's a pretty realistic look at what's happening to fish, meat, and poultry without being so scary that you choose to avoid these foods altogether.

If you are looking for a cookbook, you might want to look around. If you are trying to learn about yeast related illness and the cure, this one is worth a look.

Editorial Review:

This book offers authoritative information on foods that promote good health for everyone, including those who do not have a yeast problem. In addition to 225 family and kitchen-tested recipes, this book discusses food contaminants and provides suggestions for obtaining safe foods. It also gives detailed instructions for detecting and overcoming food allergies.

The recipes are great. The one for the home made mayonaise is fantastic. It is as good or better than the store bought. Each recipe I have used has been a delight. Even my husband is enjoying the food I have been presenting.

The Candida Albicans Yeast-Free Cookbook, Updated Second Edi 5 out of 5 stars.

A yeast infection can manifest itself in a variety of ways. Symptoms include, but are not limited to, digestive difficulties, food allergies, joint pain, fatigue, and depression. Candida albicans, the medical name for culprit in most yeast infections, lives in everyone. A number of factors, usually related to lifestyle and eating habits, can allow it to multiply out of control, creating serious problems for its human host.

Although a medical professional can diagnose a yeast infection, it's usually up to the individual to get his/her body back into balance. The Candida Albicans Yeast-Free Cookbook, Updated Second Edition, by nutritionist Pat Connolly, provides all the information individuals need to restore themselves to good health.

Although it says "yeast-free" in the title, that doesn't mean that the recipes are prepared without yeast. Unfortunately it's not that simple. Yeast thrive on sugar, and the recipes are designed to eliminate sugar from diets, making the individual "yeast-free."

The basis of a sugar-free diet is the "Rainbow Meal Plan," developed by a team of doctors. The Rainbow Meal Plan is very simple: each meal "includes small portions of seven food groups: complete protein; grain or legume; root vegetable; yellow or white vegetable; green vegetable; red, orange, or purple vegetable; and leafy green vegetable." The portions are all the same size. Individuals may eat as many meals a day as they like, but each meal must contain equal-sized portions of each of the seven food groups.

Connolly provides some sample menus to help people get started on the plan. He has also provided a selection of recipes for a "Modified Food Plan" for those who are unable to use the Rainbow Plan. Most of the recipes are very simple and use easy-to-find ingredients.

He also includes tips on eating out, good nutrition, hidden sugars, and foods to avoid under all circumstances.

A comprehensive questionnaire at the beginning of the book will help those who suspect they may have a yeast overgrowth.

The Candida Albicans Yeast-Free Cookbook offers hope and practical help to all those suffering from yeast infections.

Not useful to me 2 out of 5 stars.
42 of 48 people found this review helpful.

The book is definitely of little use to me.

I have a severe case of Candida, everytime I eat carbohydrates of any kind. i.e. Potatoes, whole wheat, oats, my Candida flares up.

The book is completely FULL OF WHEAT AND CARBOHYDRATE recipes. You will be surprissed!

Not much use, really 2 out of 5 stars.

A lot of Christian tosh interspersed with some useful information about practical steps to take to get Candida under control. The recipes are useless for people following food-combining or gluten-free diets. Overall, I wish I never bought it.

The best candida diet I have ever tried... 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is amazing. I have suffered from candida overload for 20 years (I had tried diet and alternative medicine many times) and it had developed into chronic fatigue - I was struggling to get to work each day. After reading her book, I hired a nutritionist from Ms. White's business (we converse via e-mail - ... and took the supplements recommended and carefully followed her four point plan and diet. I am, at only one month, feeling great - out of bed and on the move! All my pains are gone, my sinuses and acne are clearing up, I have lost 20 pounds, even my fungal toenails are clearing up. I still have to stay on the diet a year at least, but it is very much worth it. None of the other methods have worked as well as this. This thorough and complete program really works and I can't recommend this book and her program enough.

Editorial Review:

Suffering from both candidiasis and chronic fatigue syndrome, Erica White embarked on a self help diet and supplement plan to free herself from illness.

At Long Last - - Fantastic, Tasty YEAST-FREE Recipes! 5 out of 5 stars.
148 of 152 people found this review helpful.

For most people, being diagnosed with candidiasis is like receiving a "sentence" of impending doom to eat bland, flavorless, monotonous foods in order to rid our bodies of the overgrowth of the naturally-occuring bacteria called candida albicans, which many doctors believe is the root cause of many debilitating diseases. For many years, it seems, one would need to endure 6 weeks to 6 months of this monotonous diet in order to regain proper balance between these "bad" bacterias and the "good" bacterias in our intestines - and eventually regain our health and stamina. There has always been a need for recipes to enhance the variety and enjoyment of eating that so many of us desire in order to inspire us to stay on any new diet. Xandria Williams not ONLY provides us with a potpourri of these recipes, but gives a very concise and accurate description of the "Yeast Syndrome", what causes it, what the known symptoms are, and what to do to prevent it in the future. Her writing includes many clinical descriptions, however, she makes all of it VERY easy to understand. The lists of foods to avoid, as well as alternatives to those foods was a huge help for me. Many books just list foods to avoid......with no "alternatives" that would closely replace those foods in our daily diet. I recommend this book to anyone who needs to know more about coping with candidiasis and loves to cook.

Editorial Review:

Nearly a third of the population eventually will contract candida at some point in their lives. This hard-to-cure yeast infection produces a confusing mix of symptoms, starting with an uncomfortable thrush infection in the mouth and genitals, and leading to digestive and bowel problems, and even mood swings, mental confusion, and failing memory. While your doctor might tell you what foods to avoid, here are a naturopathic expert's recipes for what you can eat to bring healing and prevention. Select from a tasty menu of breakfasts, light lunches, main meals, snacks, and drinks, including alternative ingredients for lactose intolerance and other allergies. Inspirational, authoritative advice about healthy lifestyles accompanies the recipes to make your recovery a time of discovery.
