Style Match for Pregnancy 2 out of 5 stars.

My wife is in her twelfth week of pregnancy and this book was read but not used as a reference for her pregnancy. We tried to figure this out since it got some outstanding reviews. I concluded the style (breezy) appeals to certain people and the reason for the good reviews. We ended up using The Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy as the cover to cover and everyday reference book for her pregnancy. The Mayo was a power pack book of information that was organized exceptionally. If you like a breezy, casual girlfriend chatty type book then the "Mother" book is for you. Otherwise stick to the Mayo.

I bought this book to figure out what I should be doing prior to getting pregnant. I did not know how to alter my diet, exercise, when the best time was to try to get pregnant, how to best 'interview' my doctor. This book was very helpful in providing answers to those questions. Although I am not pregnant yet, I did go for my "preconception check up" at the doctor's and am taking the steps toward a healthy, planned pregnancy.

This book appears to be a pretty darn good resource for fitness prescription and testing. I have read much of it and it is pretty well written and quite clinical. So if that's what you need, then this book is it.
However, I was intending to get books to study for the ACSM Personal Trainer certification. This is NOT the book for that. Now granted, they recommend this book on their website, and it may be helpful, but the intended primary study source is the ACSM's resources for the personal trainer...book. So if that's what you are trying to do (like i was) then get that book, not this one. If you want a bunch of cool knowledge about exercise prescription, then this is the book for you.

Some Suggestions Impossible to Follow 3 out of 5 stars.

This book, while it gave some advice that was useful (news about acid foods and cinnamon), overall it was quite complicated - and actually took me off the track I had been on through another, easier to follow method of being on a low glycemic diet. Some advice to reduce stress by moving into more urban areas to avoid traffic confrontations were a bit extreme. It makes better sense that living in a less stressful home life to be a better benefit in managing our stress than just the travel time it takes to get back and forth to work. Anatomy of Movement is a reference book consisting mostly of diagrams of the body's muscles, bones and joints, along with brief descriptions of how they work together to create movement. The drawings are easy on the eye and excellent in helping to understand how the joints are put together and how they function. It is especially helpful to see each muscle, bone and joint isolated, allowing you to study and understand them individually in contrast to texts that show them all at once. I would highly recommend this book for personal trainers, fitness instructors, sports conditioners, anatomy students, beginning bodyworkers, and others who are interested in a visual representation of the body's anatomy.
