Editorial Review:

It's a fact seldom admitted by the medical establishment: chemotherapy and radiation are only about 6% effective in fighting cancer. Prompted by public outcry, research now validates a course of cancer prevention and treatment advocated by specialists in alternative medicine and practiced for centuries in Eastern cultures -- nutritional therapy. Verne Varona shows how to stop cancer in its tracks -- and even reverse it -- through diet. Backed by the testimony of prominent physicians and inspiring case histories, Varona explains what kind of nourishment works best to enhance immunity and restore vitality -- without sacrificing enjoyment of food. Starting with the basics of smart eating and moving to specifics on the role of antioxidants, phytochemicals, herbs, vitamins, and more in preventing and conquering cancer, he outlines a complete, easy-to-follow program for freedom from a devastating disease -- and improved odds of a long, healthy life. Aimed to make dietary changes as painless as possible, this welcome resource also features a tantalizing collection of nutritious recipes, helpful shopping and cooking tips, and sensitive advice on eating in restaurants and at social gatherings.

Understanding Breast Cancer Treatments 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is wonderful in helping women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. The book gives you explanations as to what could happen with your treatment. I was diagnosed with breast cancer over a year ago and this book was given to me then. I now own a very worn, dog ear edition which I would never give up. Since my diagnoses 3 close friends have also been diagnosed and the day that they called to tell me I order this book from amazon to be sent directly to them. Everyone has told me thank you many times and said that this book really helped

The only book you'll need 5 out of 5 stars.

If you are a person who has been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer or you know someone who has, this is the book to get.

It tells you all those little tidbits that no one ever mentions in the medical information they give you upon diagnosis. The goal is to help you with all the stages of your journey--not just to tell you what the side effects of your treatment are, but to give you practical advice on how to get through it with minimal discomfort. It also has a section at the end of each chapter that is aimed at helping your loved ones find their way in helping you.

I borrowed piles of books for the library when I was diagnosed, but this is the only one I bought (after 3 renewals from the library), and I am so glad I did!

Editorial Review:

Your support group in a book, filled with boundless strength and profound hope - until the fight is won.

Along with the shock, fear and loss many women face upon a breast cancer diagnosis comes unexpected strength, wisdom, and strong networks of sharing, support and healing. In Chicken Soup for the Breast Cancer Survivor's Soul, survivors and their family members talk openly about how difficult their fight with breast cancer has been and how they made it through the dark times with a belief in a higher power and the support of those closest to them.

Find strength in the encouraging stories of how family members confront their fears and show genuine affection for one another through gestures such as a granddaughter cutting the hair off of all her dolls so that they will look more like her grandma, who is bald from chemotherapy, and the gentle touch of a three-year-old son on his mother's back giving comfort to his sick mommy, and a husband who shows his wife the depth of his love during a weekend getaway after she heals from a total mastectomy.
Chicken Soup for the Breast Cancer Survivors Soul will show you the beautiful side of the human spirit and spark the optimism sometimes lost in the mist of an illness. It is for everyone with breast cancer and everyone who loves someone touched by the disease.

Editorial Review:

"The Middle Place is about calling home. Instinctively. Even when all the paperwork -- a marriage license, a notarized deed, two birth certificates, and seven years of tax returns -- clearly indicates you're an adult, but all the same, there you are, clutching the phone and thanking God that you're still somebody's daughter."

For Kelly Corrigan, family is everything.

At thirty-six, she had a marriage that worked, a couple of funny, active kids, and a weekly newspaper column. But even as a thriving adult, Kelly still saw herself as George Corrigan's daughter. A garrulous Irish-American charmer from Baltimore, George was the center of the ebullient, raucous Corrigan clan. He greeted every day by opening his bedroom window and shouting, "Hello, World!" Suffice it to say, Kelly's was a colorful childhood, just the sort a girl could get attached to.

Kelly lives deep within what she calls the Middle Place -- "that sliver of time when parenthood and childhood overlap" -- comfortably wedged between her adult duties and her parents' care. But she's abruptly shoved into a coming-of-age when she finds a lump in her breast -- and gets the diagnosis no one wants to hear. And so Kelly's journey to full-blown adulthood begins. When George, too, learns he has late-stage cancer, it is Kelly's turn to take care of the man who had always taken care of her -- and show us a woman as she finally takes the leap and grows up.

Kelly Corrigan is a natural-born storyteller, a gift you quickly recognize as her father's legacy, and her stories are rich with everyday details. She captures the beat of an ordinary life and the tender, sometimes fractious moments that bind families together. Rueful and honest, Kelly is the prized friend who will tell you her darkest, lowest, screwiest thoughts, and then later, dance on the coffee table at your party.

Funny, yet heart-wrenching, The Middle Place is about being a parent and a child at the same time. It is about the special double-vision you get when you are standing with one foot in each place. It is about the family you make and the family you came from -- and locating, navigating, and finally celebrating the place where they meet. It is about reaching for life with both hands -- and finding it.

Editorial Review:

In Cancer Is Not A Disease, bestselling author and internationally acclaimed health expert, Andreas Moritz, proves the point that cancer is the physical symptom reflecting our body's final attempt to eliminate specific life-destructive causes. He claims that removing such causes sets the precondition for complete healing of our body, mind and emotions. This book confronts you with a radically new understanding of cancer - one that outdates the current cancer model. On average, the conventional approaches of killing, cutting or burning cancerous cells offer most patients a remission rate of merely 7%, and the majority of the few survivors are "cured" for just five years or less. The prominent cancer researcher and professor at the University of California (Berkeley), Dr. Hardin Jones, stated: "Patients are as well, or better off, untreated." Any published success figures in cancer survival statistics are offset by equal or better scores among those not receiving any treatments. More people are killed by the treatments than saved. Cancer is Not a Disease shows you why regular cancer treatments can be fatal, what actually causes cancer, and how you can remove the obstacles that prevent the body from healing itself. Cancer is not an attempt on your life; to the contrary, cancer is trying to save it. Unless we change our perception of what cancer really is, it will continue to threaten the life of nearly one out of every two people. This book opens a door for those who wish to turn feelings of victimhood into empowerment and self-mastery, and disease into health.

Editorial Review:

Cancer can now be cured, not only the early stages, but also advanced cancer, stages four and five, including imminent death. We are not accustomed to thinking about a cure. We think of remission as the only possibility. But, this book is not about remission. It is about a cure. This is possible because the true cause of cancer has been found. Removing the malignancy left behind the tumours as they were, prior to the malignant development. So, eliminating tumours became the focus of additional research, and is the subject of this book. The 21 Day Program described in this book does both. Once you win this battle, even advanced cancer can be cured. The success rate for advanced cancer is about 95 per cent. So, you can count on this method, not merely hope it will work for you. It is a total approach that not only shrinks tumours, but also normalises your blood chemistry, lowers your cancer markers, and returns your health. The small failure rate (5 per cent) is due to clinical emergencies that beset the advanced cancer sufferer. However, if you combine the advice in this book with access to hospital care, even 'hopeless' patients can gain the time necessary to become well again.

Editorial Review:

In a valuable guide for women who have just been diagnosed with breast cancer, Dr. John Link helps sort through the confusion and the fear, by explaining such things as how to get a second opinion and how to understand a pathology report.

Particularly valuable is Link's step-by-step description of how breast cancer is characterized, or staged, according to tumor size, hormone receptors, and other factors--and how that affects prognosis. As a breast cancer specialist at Long Beach and Orange Coast Memorial hospitals in Southern California, Link knows the medical jargon and what it means. Although his writing style is at times a bit jargony and difficult to read, a breast cancer patient will willingly read and reread every word. The book also includes useful chapters on diet, exercise, herbs, and vitamins; managing the side effects of treatment; healing's mind-body connection; and organizing medical records and keeping a personal journal or log.

Ending on an encouraging note, Link writes, "You should know that most women today are cured of breast cancer. They undergo treatment, become survivors, and go on with their lives. But having breast cancer is certainly a wake-up call to many and may be for you. Life now has added uncertainty." This step-by-step manual helps you navigate the uncertainty and become a survivor, both physically and psychologically.
