A little predictable, but a fun and entertaining read nonetheless... 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I really enjoy good historical romances. Something about being whisked away to another time and place and learning to live with all the customs of that era is rather appealing.

When I first picked up this book, I was quite intrigued by the unique boldness of the leading lady. The fact that Judith is a widow with no desire for yet another husband, and feels no need to ignore her physical needs/ desires, was interesting and ballsy to say the least. Although I had to admit that I didn't think the main character, Gideon, was as interesting as he could have been, the chemistry between these two was HOT HOT HOT!

The love scenes were scorching, and although the end was fairly predictable, who doesn't love a happy ending?! All in all, I would say this is another good read if you have extra time and want something that doesn't require too much time or effort.

A Little Bit Boring 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I really do hate to be so harsh, but a little bit boring is an understatement. I barely finished this book. I almost gave up twice. The dialogue between the characters was witty for all of five minutes and then it was just tedious. There was practically no build up to the consummation. I admit to getting frustrated with books that take the entire story for just a kiss. This book was the complete opposite and I found myself liking this scenario even less than waiting until the end of the book for a mere kiss.

I find myself puzzled by reference to the "wicked" or "steamy" sex scenes. While I admit they were not boring, I would not use these words to describe them. If you want wicked or steamy, read Stephanie Laurens, Liz Carlyle, Sabrina Jeffries, or Lisa Kleypas to name but a few.

I agree with another reviewer's advice. Do not buy this, borrow it. Better yet, save yourself some time and don't bother.

A First Class Bargain... 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Six words for this book - loved it, loved it, loved it!

This is the second book I read by this author, Victoria Alexander. I also read "Until We Meet Again" and that was a great read too.

"The Wedding Bargain" was a fun read as it was a complex book with lots of happenings. If you want just a sexy and steamy novel - go elsewhere. If you want a romantic and soft love story - go elsewhere. If you want a novel that pits two strong characters head on and involves witty banter back and forth, lots of fun adventures and a story where the guy truly pursues the girl that he feels is the only one right for him - this will be the book for you.

The best thing that can be said for this story is that the characters - Max & Pandora - meet from the first lines of the book and the story does not deviate from there as to who this book will be about. Yes, there are other characters that are fun in this book - Max's best friend Laurie, Pandora's friend Cynthia, their other family and friends but...the leads never are far from the main story at any one time as it should be. Max and Pandora are the perfect lead characters and they work very well together - they are attractive, intelligent, fun loving, passionate and well liked.

Bottom line....Pandora sets Max up on an impossible mission - complete a long list of Hercules 12 incredible accomplishments and she would marry him - should he fail - she will pick the worst wife possible and he must marry her. The story goes on a wild ride after that and you will enjoy immensely all the creative ways Max finds to complete the nearly impossible list. Some readers felt this dragged the book down and that it went on too long but, to the contrary...I liked the challenge issued and how they both handled the process of completing the list. I haven't read anything like that before so, it was charming to me.

You'll have to buy the book and read it to see if he does complete the list and win the girl OR if the girl should rule the day. You will laugh at the banter, avidly follow the plot line and root each of them on to win!

The sexual intimacy is limited but, you don't miss it a lot in this book - everything else is so interesting it's ok. I would have liked to see a little different ending, more drawn out but, that's ok. Bravo to Max (who Pandra calls a rogue, rake, scoundrel and beast).... As he finds his mate and goes after her with gusto - just as a good man should. Bravo to Pandora (who Max calls his gorgeous little Hellion) who is nervous and panicked at being pursued so avidly but, she knows the chase is half the fun and that once love bites you, you can only run so far. When Max presents Pandora with the golden apples necklace - well, you'll believe in love again yourself.

Buy this book, read it, add it to your library and believe in great love relationships again!

Editorial Review:

London's most scandalous beauty, Pandora Effington, intends to marry a hero—not one of those boring, run-of-the-mill bachelor lords who leave her cold. No, the husband she desires must be someone special, someone whose touch sends delicious shivers down her spine, and who will do absolutely everything in his power to win her love. Someone like . . . Maximillian Wells.

The dashing Earl of Trent cannot believe his ears . . . or his eyes. Here before him stands beautiful Pandora Effington, and the fiery, unattainable heiress is making him a most tantalizing offer. Maximillian can have the lady's hand in marriage . . . if he agrees to play a game of her devising—one involving great risk, ingenuity, passion, and determination.

It is a game he has no intention of losing . . .

Setting: Regency England and contemporary America

Sensuality: 8

This anthology of New Year's Eve celebration stories pairs Regency authors Stephanie Laurens and Victoria Alexander with contemporary author Rachel Gibson, and the collection is a rare treat. The tales begin with Laurens's scandalous Lord Dere as he arrives on Abigail Woolley's doorstep in the midst of a blizzard. Dere and Abigail share a past that neither can forget. They've both gone far too long without love and if propinquity and passion have their way, a blissful future awaits them.

The second in this trio of tales is Victoria Alexander's "The Last Love Letter." Beautiful Rachael Gresham had given all the love in her passionate young heart to handsome Jason Norcross. But treachery and greed tore them apart, their hearts shattered with betrayal and despair. Now fate has brought them together again, the truth at last revealed. Will Rachael and Jason have the courage to put the past behind and reclaim the love that has endured the long years spent apart?

In Rachel Gibson's "Now And Forever," high school friends Brina McConnell and Thomas Mack come together again at a class reunion. They may both have changed for the better on the outside, but inside, they're still as passionately attracted to each other as when they were teenagers. The fire that threatens to scorch them now is very adult, but whether it will last past New Year's Eve is anyone's guess. Whether your personal preference is the charm and wit of Regency England or the sexy appeal of contemporary America, you'll be bowled over with this terrific collection of romantic tales. --Lois Faye Dyer

You will either love it or hate it. No middle ground. 3 out of 5 stars.

While in Paris Lord Matthew "Matt" Weston met and married the woman of his dreams. Yet only a few hours later she left him, leaving behind a letter that she would deal with the legalities. He had not known her REAL name or title. He only knew how much he loved her. After fifteen months, she walked back into his life.

She was Princess Tatianna Marguerite Nadia Pruzinsky of the Kingdom of Greater Avalonia, and she needed his help. Tat still loved Matt. However, she felt she HAD to leave him so she could finish fulfilling her royal duties. She planned to return to him someday, if he would still have her, once her duties were completed. For now, she needed him to escort her around London as his wife. As Lady Matthew she could retrace the steps of Aunt Sophia. Tat told him that she was writing the history of the royal family. It was obvious he did not believe her. As his wife, doors would be open for her to speak with those who knew Sophia, decades ago. The truth of what Tat was up to was kept secret. Tat was searching for something that she felt MUST be found before she could return to Matt forever.

*** I found this story to be complicated. Several sub-plots ran simultaneously, such as, the Princess Valentina being in England, some history of ballooning (aerostats), and some jewels. That was only a few of them. About half into the book, however, things began to come together. I, as the reader, got a clearer picture of what was REALLY going on. Romance between the two main characters seemed stilted until this point.

The second half of the book was filled with perils and romance! I could not pull myself away from it all. Everything seemed to speed up and I simply HAD to know what was going to happen in the next chapter! I admit that much of the information that the first half of the book was needed for the reader to fully understand the seriousness of the plot. Yet I feel many readers will not be able to wait so long for all the pieces to come together.

As a reviewer, I must say that I feel the first half of this book seemed to drag. The second half was non-stop. Somehow I believe reviews will be mixed on this tale. This story you will either love or hate. No middle ground. ***

Women never said no to the dashing Lord Matthew Weston and he never said no to them. But this was the first time he found one tempting enough to impetuously say "I do." Was it any wonder he awoke to discover her gone? And when Matthew learned the enchanting creature he'd married was of royal blood -- and would abandon their marriage bed without a second thought -- he vowed to put her out of his life forever.

But even a princess makes mistakes. And now Tatiana's back, asking for the kind of help only he can give her. But is his assistance all she wants or are there secrets the willful royal is keeping from him? Matthew may well lend her his hand but he'll never again give her his heart. Still, he's determined to tame the green-eyed beauty and change her from a perfect princess to his passionate bride.

Distressed over the current widespread disinterest in matrimony among their eminently marriageable offspring, the formidable matriarchs of the ton have taken matters into their own meddling hands with the formation of The Ladies' Society for the Betterment of the Future of Britain. Their first challenge: the Earl of Pennington.

Miss Gwendolyn Townsend has seen her late father's estate go to a distant cousin she can't abide ... leaving her well-educated, able to make a perfect curtsy -- and penniless. So imagine her shock when it's discovered that a match had been arranged between herself and Marcus Holcroft, the Earl of Pennington -- one of the most eligible members of London society. Marcus constantly leaves her breathless and confused ... and though she's hesitant to marry a man she's just met, in the end she has no choice. But she makes some conditions first ...

Marcus cannot believe that the bride who has been foisted upon him is insisting on rules to their wedding ... and bedding! He's a man who has never had to tempt any woman into his arms. But even more surprising is that Gwendolyn is clearly hiding something -- and it shocks him to think that their exquisite kisses -- followed by his lessons in passionate lovemaking -- wouldn't be enough to make his wife tell him her every secret. After all, he's promised to be a proper husband -- isn't it fair to also expect a proper wife?

Not her best work... 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

While this book is part of a series, it also works as a stand-alone. I hadn't read any of the other books in the series, and I wasn't feeling at all lost.

I thought this book had a lot of potential that it didn't live up to. The "good" sister who wants a grand adventure, the "elderly butler" who is actually the woman the heroine loves, the lies that will drive them apart could have all been very interesting. First off, the author implied that the heroine's first husband didn't die. Then she never developed this idea. I was left feeling that something major was left hanging.

Also, the intrigue part of the book didn't capture me at all. Every time the book went off onto the tangent of the Effington papers and Tony's work, my eyes would glaze over. I've got nothing wrong with intrigue in a romance novel, but this felt a bit too much like a political-history lesson to me. I just wanted to get back to the romance.

Except that the romance part of this book didn't capture me, either. Yes, I know that Tony is falling in love with Delia while in his disguise as Gordon (and his switch from bachelor to fool in love was a bit too sudden), but Delia doesn't know that. She only knows him as Viscount St. Stephens, and barely spends any time with him in this persona to really form true affection for him. On her part, it felt more like she was in love with his body, and the idea of him, then with the man himself. I want the characters I read about to fall in love with each other as people first, instead of with each other's looks and bodies.

I could have pushed past this and finished the book (I gave up 2/3 of the way through), but the whole carriage seduction scene was just too much for me. Again, I felt that the heroine didn't care about the hero except to use him for sex. (Much like she did with her first husband.) I didn't feel like she really cared about him as a person very much. It turned me off, and I felt that her attitude towards sex was much too modern for the time period. And her needs for adventure started to feel like a child whining 'give me this' and 'I want that'. Then the hero would bend over backwards to give these things to her, and I can't stand doormats as leads in a romance novel. In short, the heroine was just too immature and self-centered for me to really like her. I kind of felt that she wasn't worthy of Tony, who was basically a good guy.

I may try more of Victoria Alexander's work in the future, as I have enjoyed some of her books (though not all of them) in the past. I would recommend "The Prince's Bride" over this book, which was much better written, and with more loveable characters. As for this book, only buy it if you're a hard-core fan of Alexander. It's not the best sampling of her work.

Editorial Review:

Identical twins, sensible Delia and mischievous Cassandra Effington were the most delicious debutantes to ever waltz across a London ballroom. They looked alike in every way . . . but no one ever expected Delia to be the one to get into trouble . . .

How did this young lady's reputation become so questionable?

Once she was lovely, respectable Miss Delia Effington, but an impulsive decision—and subsequent disaster—forces Delia to retire from society. Until one night, desperate for diversion, she attends a ball as her twin sister and finds herself dancing in the strong arms of the dashing Viscount St. Stephens.

Delia believes she has never met this man who arouses her passions, yet he seems somehow familiar. For Delia doesn't know that St. Stephens, an agent for the Crown, has been in her home, protecting her under the disguise of her butler. What will happen when this lady discovers the truth about the man she has come to love?
