Editorial Review:

The Wallflowers are four young ladies in London who banded together in their wild and wickedly wonderful searches for true love. Now happily married, they join together once again to help one of the world’s most notorious rogues realize that happiness might be right under the mistletoe.…

It’s Christmastime in London and Rafe Bowman has arrived from America for his arranged meeting with Natalie Blandford, the very proper and beautiful daughter of Lady and Lord Blandford. His chiseled good looks and imposing physique are sure to impress the lady in waiting and, if it weren’t for his shocking American ways and wild reputation, her hand would already be guaranteed. Before the courtship can begin, Rafe realizes he must learn the rules of London society. But when four former Wallflowers try their hand at matchmaking, no one knows what will happen. And winning a bride turns out to be more complicated than Rafe Bowman anticipated, especially for a man accustomed to getting anything he wants. However, Christmas works in the most unexpected ways, changing a cynic to a romantic and inspiring passion in the most timid of hearts.

A Wallflower Christmas takes a trip to Victorian London, under the mistletoe, and on a journey of the heart. With her trademark charm, sensuality, and unforgettable characters, there’s no one like Lisa Kleypas to make you believe in the magic of Christmas.

I LOVE LISA KLEYPAS 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I am a huge fan of Lisa Kleypas. I have read EVERY book she has written. She is an exceptional writer that takes the reader on a journey that is unforgettable. This book is no exception, and in my opinion its one of her best. Kev and Win were always destined to be together and the journey Ms. Kleypas carried them on was heart-stoppingly beautiful. This book was passionate and emotional. The tormented longing that Kev felt for Win and the yearning and love she felt for him was written with such poignancy and emotional depth that it made my heart ache with tears. Even though I have finished reading this book, the emotional remnants are still with me. It was a beautifully written romantic story that will endear Lisa kleypas to me, always.

Editorial Review:

Lisa Kleypas kicks off another great series! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Setting: London and Hampshire county, England, 1848
Sensuality rating: 8.5 (well-written sexual tension, multiple love scenes)

IMPRESSIONS:
Just read "Mine Till Midnight" for the second time, since I had wanted to refresh myself on the Hathway family before starting the second book in the series, Seduce Me at Sunrise (The Hathaways, Book 2). I loved it as much as the first time I read it. Lisa Kleypas is definitely one of the most talented (if not THE most talented) historical romance authors out there.

I absolutely loved the entire Hathaway family and reading about them makes you want to be part of the group. Amelia and Cam's relationship was very authentic (scenes to make your heart melt and toes curl!) and they were both very well thought out and well-written characters. Cam was wonderful: mysterious, possessive, loving, tender, intelligent, has a sense of humor, and I could go on and on. Amelia was also great (and we know how we're usually more critical of the female characters). She's a strong and independent woman, always trying to take care of and manage her family (sometimes to excess and their annoyance). She is loving, smart, and sweet, and finds in Cam a person whom she can finally let her guard down with.

CRITICISMS:
The insertion of a "bad guy" was unnecessary and did not add to the story in any way. I also was not a fan of the supernatural element of Laura's ghost or spirit or whatever it was (very light, so don't let that put you off).

BOTTOM LINE:
Read it right away and then read #2 in the series. I can't wait for #3!!

Editorial Review:

When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.

Wealthy beyond most men’s dreams, Cam has tired of society’s petty restrictions and longs to return to his “uncivilized” Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship—but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter….

tepid 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I was really looking forward to this book. From the reviews I thought it was going to be the best in the series. I really didn't like it very much at all. It was so dark and bleary. Most of the book took place in a gaming club. Yuck. I missed the light airy feel to the two previous books. I thought Evie, after surviving her controlling and cruel family, deserved somthing a little more flowery and romantic. I also really missed the interaction between the other wallflowers. They really weren't present at all during this book.

St. Vincent was so unsatisfying as the hero. There was no conflict between him and Evie except the fact that she wouldn't give into his demands for sex. Then we had to listen to him whine and complain like a little brat. This book just wasn't for me.

Editorial Review:

A devil's bargain

Easily the shyest Wallflower, Evangeline Jenner stands to become the wealthiest, once her inheritance comes due. Because she must first escape the clutches of her unscrupulous relatives, Evie has approached the rake Viscount St. Vincent with a most outrageous proposition: marriage!

Sebastian's reputation is so dangerous that thirty seconds alone with him will ruin any maiden's good name. Still, this bewitching chit appeared, unchaperoned, on his doorstep to offer her hand. Certainly an aristocrat with a fine eye for beauty could do far worse.

But Evie's proposal comes with a condition: no lovemaking after their wedding night. She will never become just another of the dashing libertine's callously discarded broken hearts -- which means Sebastian will simply have to work harder at his seductions...or perhaps surrender his own heart for the very first time in the name of true love.

A fitting ending to a good series! 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The fourth and final installment to Lisa Klepas wildly popular Wallflower series, I thought nothing could top Evie's story (Devil in Winter). Okay, okay, I'm thinking DIW is STILL my favorite- but Scandal in Spring comes a very close second.

In SIS we get Daisy's story. Younger sister to Lillian Bowman (It Happened One Autumn), Daisy is the dreamy imaginative one of the self-proclaimed Wallflower girls. A typical head the clouds type a gal, you just know it's gonna take a special man to win her heart.

Matthew Swift is just such a man.

But Matthew, protégé to Lillian and Daisy's bulldozing father, up until this point, seems to be the last man Daisy could ever fall for. He's pragmatic with a head for numbers and most damning of all- seemingly well planted in her father's wealthy pockets.

But Mr. Swift is not all he seems to be and when he enters Daisy's world once again, he turns her ideas of who a perfect man might be right on it's ear.

I love Matthew. His mysterious past only adds to his appeal and when he helps Daisy rescue a goose and then promptly there after, ably soothes Annabelle and Simon's (Secrets of a Summer Night) teething baby, I fell for him hook line and sinker- just like Daisy.

Daisy is a charming heroine. She may seem a bit flighty to those who don't know her, but her humor, competitiveness, and love for novels proves otherwise. (She made me chuckle more than once in this novel!)

Like I said, Devil in Winter may be the one wallflower book that wins everyones' heart, but Scandal in Spring seals the deal for this series, make no mistake about it! (I particularly liked the tres romantique things Matthew says to Daisy by the end of the book! Classic, despite it's sentimentality. Yeah, I choked up.)

This is a simple enjoying read, as are most of Kleypas's novels for me, but certainly not one to be overlooked for it's seeming lack of depth!

Editorial Review:

After spending three London seasons searching for a husband, Daisy Bowman's father has told her in no uncertain terms that she must find a husband. Now. And if Daisy can't snare an appropriate suitor, she will marry the man he chooses—the ruthless and aloof Matthew Swift.

Daisy is horrified. A Bowman never admits defeat, and she decides to do whatever it takes to marry someone . . . anyone . . . other than Matthew. But she doesn't count on Matthew's unexpected charm . . . or the blazing sensuality that soon flares beyond both their control. And Daisy discovers that the man she has always hated just might turn out to be the man of her dreams.

But right at the moment of sweet surrender, a scandalous secret is uncovered . . . one that could destroy both Matthew and a love more passionate and irresistible than Daisy's wildest fantasies.

disappointing republish 1 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I thought this was a new anthology of stories for Christmas. I was disappointed to see that the Lisa Kleypas story was one I had read a long time ago. I wish they would be more upfront about remakes, recompilations, and republished in new format works. I loathe the sneaky marketing. It makes me far more hesitant to make further purchases by the publishing company or the author.

Reissue -Kleypas's Rita Award winning novella "I Will" + two other holiday themed short stories 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

From the back cover-

I Will by Lisa Kleypas
When a Georgian bluestocking is propositioned by a rakish noble, she finds the unlikely deal he proposes is the gift of a life time.

5 stars -One of my favorite Kleypas stories. Andrew, Lord Drake, is the drunken dissolute half brother to Logan Scott Because You're Mine. Their father is dying. In order to get back into the will Andrew must prove he has transformed his scandalous ways. So comes about a sham engagement to the morally upright Miss Caroline Hargreaves. Fantastic novella, not surprising that this won a Rita. Great characters, captivating writing, unpredictable plot and a swoon-worthy romance. The same novella has also been published previously in Wish List.

Three French Hens by Lynsay Sands
A twelfth-century scullion gets a chance to play a lady's maid -and win the true love of an impoverished lord.

4 stars -Brinna, a scullery maid, is called upon to help Lady Joan avoid marriage to an poor lord. Brinna masquerades as the other woman. Soon she find herself falling in love with Royce who desperately needs a substantial dower to help his people. Too bad Brinna is the wrong woman -or is she? Very good short story but not humorous like many of Sands other ones. I thought the ending was a far fetched but I guess thats in keeping with the feel good Christmas theme. Also published in Five Gold Rings.

Father Christmas by Leigh Greenwood
Delivering a young widow's baby during the holiday season transforms the heart of a lonely drifter in the nineteenth-century Arizona Territory.

5 stars -Joe Ryan is a wanted man. He shows up at his dead partner's ranch looking for the hidden gold, not only for the riches but to clear his good name. What he finds at the run down place is the man's pregnant widow and her step daughter. While searching for the lute lonely Joe can't help but lend a hand to the desperate woman and child who have captured his heart. Wonderful! Everything you could want in a holiday story including the cutesy little girl. The classic Christmas cliche of a loner finding a home -and a family- for the holidays. Also published in Their First Noel.

Can't go wrong with this anthology, good stories at a great price.

Four young ladies enter London society with one necessary goal: they must use their feminine wit and wiles to find a husband. So they band together, and a daring husband-hunting scheme is born.

It Happened at the Ball...

Where beautiful but bold Lillian Bowman quickly learned that her independent American ways weren't entirely "the thing." And the most disapproving of all was insufferable, snobbish, and impossible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, London's most eligible aristocrat.

It Happened in the Garden…

When Marcus shockingly -- and dangerously-swept her into his arms. Lillian was overcome with a consuming passion for a man she didn't even like. Time stood still; it was as if no one else existed…thank goodness they weren't caught very nearly in the act!

It Happened One Autumn...

Marcus was a man in charge of his own emotions, a bedrock of stability. But with Lillian, every touch was exquisite torture, every kiss an enticement for more. Yet how could he consider taking a woman so blatantly unsuitable…as his bride?

Beautiful 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Sigh. I just finished reading this love story and am so inspired by the characters it has me itching to write my own story. This is probably one of the best, if not THE best, historical romance novel I've had the pleasure to read. I really am sad that it has ended. I've read so many romance novels in search of something great that would take my breath away and I think I just finished reading it.

Here is why: the character development was wonderful. It wasn't cliche and of a "formula" as some writers always resort to. The hero isn't a "rake" in the historical sense of the word, he's a tortured blackguard from the gutter who climbed his way to the top by any means necessary, even depravity. He doesn't love, doesn't want to be loved and doesn't even know what it means as he's never had it....until Sara.

Sara, the heroine isn't cookie cutter either. She's essentialy a "country mouse" with no blue blood, from a simple little country town who went to London for research as she is a writer. She isn't initially described as some beautiful, unnatainable flower that every man lusts after. She's just herself and her personality is wonderfully fresh and without airs. She's honest, gentle, naive, kind, compassionate, independant and realistic.

Sara meets Derek by saving his life from some men who are trying to kill him in the street. In exchange for saving his life all she wants is to live behind the scenes of his exclusive gaming club to research for her new novel. From the moment he meets her he's put off by her naivety and her goodness. He's never associated with anyone so innocent and unworldy before and doesn't want to be bothered, but he reluctantly agrees. In eachother they find they're opposites completely, but together they're complete with what the other is lacking.

Sara being nonjudgemental of Derek's past, saw something in him that only a few could see, and that was regardless of how he came up in the world, beneath his rough exterior was a man who needed love and who had a gentle soul. He rejected any kindness from her, feeling it would only lead to her demise. He felt as if he wasn't good enough for her and would only soil her with his hard lived life.

The love story that unfolds is so beautiful and in no way did it feel forced or contrived. Derek discovers that underneath Sara's glasses, bonnet and innosence is a real woman who needs love and affection and he can't help but be haunted by her. Always having any woman he wanted sexually, he never knew he'd ever want any woman emotionally as well, but he did and it made him want to distance himself from her more everyday, but the more he tried, the more closer he came toward her. Sara was raised in a gentler fashion and never imagined in her wildest dreams she could ever love someone as hard and cynical as Derek was. The more she came to know him the harder it was for her to hold onto her sense of self as she wanted to abandon all she was raised to be for this man, but in essence she was more herself with him than she'd ever been with anyone else.

This story is just so romantic, wrought with tension, so sweet and loving and the dialogue is the best I've ever read. I loved it from the first page to the last and I can't wait to read it again and again and again. Don't put this off....read it, you'll love it.

Editorial Review:

She stood at peril's threshold --
then love beckoned her in…

A prim, well-bred gentlewoman, Sara Fielding is a writer who puts pen to paper to create dreams. But now curiosity is luring her from the shelter of her country cottage into the dangerous world of Derek Craven -- handsome, tough, and tenacious -- and the most exciting man Sara has ever met.

Derek rose from poverty to become the wealthy lord of London's most exclusive gambling house. And now duty demands that he allow Sara Fielding to enter his perilous realm of ever-shifting fortunes -- with her impeccable manners and her infuriating innocence. But there is a hidden strength and sensuality to the lady that captivates him beyond his better judgment. And in this world, where danger lurks behind every shadow, even a proper “mouse” can be transformed into a breathtaking enchantress -- and a cynical gambler can be shaken to his core by the power of passion and the promise of love.

Editorial Review:

Grant Morgan is one of London's most eligible and unattainable bachelors. He's also a powerful member of the Bow Street Runners, and when he's called to the waterfront late one night to investigate a drowning victim, Grant is stunned to recognize the face of Vivien Rose Duvall, a well-known woman of the night. He's even more startled when he realizes that she's alive. With no one to care for her, Grant carries Vivien to his home and revives her, only to learn that she is suffering from amnesia.

Vivien hesitantly accepts her handsome rescuer's claim that she is his mistress, despite her misgivings about her true identity. Nevertheless, she can't deny the marks on her throat that prove her near-drowning in the Thames was not an accident, and now she must trust the man who claims her as his paramour, for her life is in danger. As Grant searches for Vivien's attacker, the two find themselves falling in love, all the while struggling to stay one step ahead of the evil forces that will stop at nothing to see Vivien dead.

Kleypas's characters are not your run-of-the-mill Regency fare--Grant lacks a noble lineage while Vivien's "membership" in the demimonde is unusual to say the least--which makes them even more fascinating and thoroughly absorbing. Toss in a puzzling mystery to solve and an intriguing look inside the workings of the famous Bow Street Runners, and you've got a novel well worth reading. No wonder Lisa Kleypas's books are consistent bestsellers--you won't be able to put this one down.--Lois Faye Dyer
