Helpful 4 out of 5 stars.

I liked this book because it gave suggestions on relaxing and trying to deal with infertility. It gave me ideas on what to do when I am feeling anxious. I know how to handle my emotions better.

Great book for coping skills when TTC 4 out of 5 stars.

After reading this book, I definetly have more coping skills for managing the stress and anxiety of our fertility journey. Domar devotes a whole chapter to relaxation techniques and stratedgies, which I am already seeing the benefits of everyday! In my opinion, she spends a little too much time discussing the sadness, jealousy, and anger some women feel towards their pregnant family and friends. Don't get me wrong, I definetly identified with the emotional sadness and struggle, but felt it was over discussed. I will keep this book handy as we start our second IVF, hopefully much more relaxed this time!
Best of luck for healthy babies in 2008,

Editorial Review:

Infertility is a heartbreaking condition that affects nine million American couples each year. It causes tremendous stress, can trigger debilitating sadness and depression, and can tear a marriage to shreds. In Conquering Infertility, Harvard psychologist Alice Domar—whom Vogue calls the “Fertility Goddess”—provides infertile couples with what they need most: stress relief, support, and hope. Using the innovative mind/body techniques she has perfected at her clinic, Domar helps infertile women not only regain control over their lives but also boost their chances of becoming pregnant.

With Conquering Infertility, women learn how to cope with infertility in a much more positive way and to carve a path toward a rich, full, happy life.

Amazing read 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is really life changing. It opens your heart and mind up to issues, thoughts, and feelings you may never have dealt with. This book is very well written and easy to understand. I can't imagine someone NOT liking it and gleaning something from it.

WONDERFUL!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

OH what a wonderful book! We struggled with Infertility for years and spent thousands of dollars on treatments with what seemed like no end in sight. I felt so broken, so desperate....I always questioned WHY was this happening to me. Even though my husband was always wonderful & supportive I still hurt...we BOTH did. This book helped me out so much & completely changed the way I looked at my Infertility. I learned so much about myself & the "burden bearers" section of the book was most helpful in telling family members how they could handle this delicate situation as many of them unknowingly can sometimes say the most hurtful things. I had relied on God in the past for support & know that I wouldn't have made it without His comfort & strength as long as I did...but when I began reading this book and found the right places to search in the bible for specific verses, I was a changed woman. This book taught me great patience and that this was a time for me to grow & become closer to God. It gave me great hope and understanding about my struggles with Infertility.....and before I could even get to the end of the book....I got pregnant!!! All in God's time...and what perfect timing it was....just a few days before Thanksgiving! I'm now 13 weeks along and have seen my baby at 3 different times on ultrasound....the baby is perfectly healthy and we are so blessed. I was at my wit's end before starting this book. Of all the books I'd read on Infertility this one helped me the most & I would highly recommend it to anyone else who loves the Lord & is ready to trust in Him completely with their Infertility struggles. Best wishes to all those trying to conceive...may your journey be a short one!

Editorial Review:

Wide shoulders, narrow waist, thick chest, muscular arms and legs: today's male ideal physique is the same as that of ancient Greece. Aerobics and the Food Pyramid just won't yield that shape, argues Lou Schuler, certified strength-and-conditioning specialist and fitness director of Men's Health magazine. For weight loss and the Greek physique, he proposes the "T" (testosterone) plan: weightlifting and a diet of 33 percent each carbs (mostly low-glycemic-index), fat (the "good" kind), and protein; no alcohol; and minimal sweets and processed food. The book includes a meal planner, grocery list, and recipes. A 100-page, clearly illustrated weightlifting program progresses from circuit training to bodybuilding to power lifting, with both home and gym exercises.

This research-based program was tested on 16 willing, hefty guys. After nine weeks, they lost an average of 18 pounds, dropped waist inches, gained strength and energy, and improved their sex lives. The book includes before-and-after photos and quotes from the happy campers.

Schuler's man-to-man style is clear, direct, and witty ("one gorilla wearing a stringy tank in July is all it takes to leave a bench soaked in ectoplasm"). The Testosterone Advantage Plan is recommended for men willing to commit to a rigorous lifting program to achieve their ideal physique. --Joan Price

Death of the Author 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I'd wait until someone lets the public know what Larry Clapp died of before buying this book.

THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT LARRY CLAPP DIED FROM PROSTATE CANCER ABOUT SEVEN WEEKS AGO AND THAT HIS FAMILY DOES NOT WANT THE CAUSE OF DEATH KNOWN BECAUSE IT WILL KILL BOOK SALES.

Larry's death 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

To the person who believes that Larry's regimen does not work if Larry died of prostate cancer: While those of us who consulted with or even met Larry in person wish that those closest to him would reveal the cause of his death, we do not think his regimen is a failure if he DID die of prostate cancer. After all, he kept himself in robust health for a very long time, in contrast to lots of men who perhaps prematurely had surgery. Furthermore, he was in his LATE 70s! He had 17 great years after his diagnosis!

Notice that whenever you ask a guy how he is doing after surgery, he'll say he's fine. Probe deeper, though, and he will reveal he is not fine. Unless the cancer is aggressive, there's no need to run into the operating room. The two biggest lessons in the book are: 1. Detoxify a few times per year, and 2. Use power doppler ultrasound as your monitoring method, not a biopsy. Dr. Robert Bard in NYC is the man to go to, and your insurance will probably cover it. Blue Cross Federal Plan, for example, covers it.

P.S. Great new lab test with fewer false positives than PSA may even be out right now--the EPCA-2 by Onconome Inc. Google Direct Labs--you may be able to get it done without a doctor's involvement, even.

Best wishes to all you men with prostate problems. It takes guts and energy to look at non-surgical options. Do what you can!

Jayne

Editorial Review:

Dr. Larry Clapp was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1990. Given the limited options of surgery and radiation, he began intensive research into self-healing alternatives and developed a treatment for prostate cancer, which he successfully used to cure himself. Today, cancer-free, he continues his research while helping others using nutrition, massage, herbs, homeopathy, and other alternatives.

Well Worth Reading 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I can think of few topics outside of politics and religion that are more divisive than the subject of effective bodybuilding techniques. Mr. LaVelle, however, offers a well-reasoned and well-written contribution to the debate.

If your goal is to be most efficient with the time you spend in the gym and you want to avoid setbacks caused by injuries and over-training, you owe it to yourself to read Mr. LaVelle's book. If on the other hand, you get some sort of validation from being able to talk about how much time you spend working out, then, by all means, keep doing what you are doing.

I would caution you, though, read the book carefully. The author is quick to point out that his methods need to be tailored to the individual. This is not a "do exactly what I tell you" cookbook. I believe that when you read the book you will find, as I did, that the author's ideas are not only well supported but also seem intuitively right.

Editorial Review:

The definitive guide for building muscle: Training for Mass is a comprehensive, intelligent guide for constructing effective and efficient weight training workouts. It also offers a scientific analysis of current popular weight training strategies, and demonstrates how the vast majority of workout routines are neither scientific nor effective. Based on observations about how the human body responds to exercise, Training for Mass advocates a less-is-more approach, and shows how spending endless hours in the gym is counterproductive and even harmful--debunking the myth that building muscle requires a great investment of time. Training for Mass is not a picture book; rather, it is filled with useful information. Nor is it a rigid scientific journal or text book; the author draws upon unusual examples and provides uncommon insight into the factors required for success in weight training.

Best book for your bottom dollar 5 out of 5 stars.
28 of 38 people found this review helpful.

Third edition? Third edition? Hm. I must have missed something.
Anyhow, I have the second edition. Did I buy it from Amazon? No. That was a long time ago, 1995 or so. I didn't know Mr. Morin put out a new version. It is a serious, no-nonsense approach to a topic that you don't hear in casual conversation. The care, maintenance, and the pleasurable sensations opening up a new world to those too shy to ponder it on their own. Buying through a mail order outfit like Amazon helps with avoiding approaching the store clerk. But SOMEBODY packages this book to send it off to you. Think about it. Just kidding. Highly recommended. Oh yeah, and it's for everyone. Not just gay men, not just men, straight men, and any women, hermaphrodites, whatever. Great work, Jack.

I've never learned so much from one book 5 out of 5 stars.

My wife to be loves taking charge and now that I've learned the ins and outs of anal pleasure our time together is better than ever. She has always loved using devices on me, but prior to reading this book it was often too unpleasant to enjoy. A little pain good, but too much is too much. This book helped her learn how to deliver, and me to receive, in such a way we hardly have a reason to leave the house anymore.

Difficult to finish 3 out of 5 stars.
5 of 16 people found this review helpful.

As someone who has suffered many years from PE, I was hoping to find some useful advice from this book. The first chapter, which I have read many times, is sensational. As I have not yet been able to finish this book, I am hoping that the next edition is better paced.

Working so far!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

I hate to read, but this was a quick and very helpful read. The information was useful and the techniques are working very well after a few weeks of practice. This was recommended by my doctor and I'll pass that recommendation along. Good luck.

Actionable Manual 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

In the past, doctors attempted to define Premature Ejaculation (PE) in terms of how quickly the patient ejaculates. Some treatment centers believed that if a man lasted less than one minute after vaginal entry he was premature. Other groups used one and a half minutes or two minutes as their criterion. Instead of the natural enjoy, men with this type of PE have to struggle to hold back, and can only do so with tremendous effort and with a great deal of tension, which takes all the pleasure out of the act for themselves and also spoils it for their partners. In 1980s, Helen Singer Kaplan has proposed a new definition of PE, which has been adopted by the American Psychiatric Association and by the World Health Organization. According to the new diagnostic guidelines, the essential feature of PE is that the man lacks adequate voluntary ejaculatory control with the result that the climaxes involuntarily before he wishes to.

The author affirms that PE can be cured, so today over 90 percent of cased can be cured with an average of 14 weeks of treatment. The author analyzes what causes PE, scrutinizes physical and psychological causes of PE, and present the new treatment of PE split into steps with illustrated exercises and advises for both partners. The illustrations are taken from the other author's book: "The Illustrated Manual Of Sex Therapy". I can recommend it in addition to this book, as well as the author's title "The Sexual Desire Disorders - Dysfunctional Regulation of Sexual Motivation".

Editorial Review:

Discusses male sexual response and the cause of its disorders, and provides advice on leading a more normal sex life.

As stressful as it may be at times, this I recommend for those who plan on having a child. It has very interesting information and you can write whatever you want on it versus on a daily planner. Very helpful and educational.

Editorial Review:

In the tradition of The Pregnancy Journal (over 1.25 million copies sold), The Fertility Journal is a guided journal designed to help women understand and track their monthly reproductive cycle. It features a primer on fertility basics, helpful tips on health, exercise, relationships, sex, and nutrition, and space for women to record the daily statistics that will help them predict ovulation and get pregnant more easily. A special section on assisted reproductive technologies includes a monthly tracker for women employing in vitro fertilization and similar procedures. With illustrations throughout and plenty of room to record the thoughts and feelings that go along with this exciting and emotional time, The Fertility Journal is an essential tool for creating a family.
