A book about the prostate is worth zilch unless it minces no words. The author of this one is totally honest. That is what makes this one indispensable if you, like me and other millions, have prostate concerns. My problem is not (yet) serious or urgent but I find the book highly revealing and very helpful. And I now know if that is the case at this time, then if and when my Gleason Scale number goes up (see the book!) and I face surgery, the book will be a necessity to keep at my side. It sure does not read like a novel but it is Information with a capital I. The three key words in describing what Newt Malerman has written, are candid, informative, and helpful.

A comprehensive text on the treatment of prostate cancer with seed implants. GREAT book!

Dr. Wallner is a legend in the field - and his book explains the art of prostate brachytherapy in a simple, clear and engaging fashion. His writing style is fun and easy to read and the coverage is quite comprehensive when it comes to LDR (fyi: not much on HDR).

In addition, the book is peppered with figures, graphs, schematics and examples that really help explain some of the more challenging concepts behind prostate brachytherapy quite well. He comments on all(?) the controversies (which seed is better, the role of supplemental beam, the role of ADT, when not to implant, CT vs MRI vs TRUS, intraoperative vs preplan approach, incidence of side-effects, malpractice issues...), cites evidence where it exists, and calls out the brachytherapy community when he feels they have arrived at premature conclusions (i.e. without sufficient evidence).

If you are interested in this topic - you'll very likely enjoy reading this book quite a bit - you have my word.

A practical guide to I-125 and Pd-103 prostate brachytherapy. Intended for physicians and well-informed patients. While some of the text may be too technical for non-physicians, most of it is easily understood and of general interest to brachytherapy patients.

Moyad's book is excellent in several ways but it has one major drawback. The book is excellent in recommending five servings of fruit and vegetables, in its description of each supplement, and in basing its choices on double blind studies. This last is also a major drawback. Vitamins and supplements often work together and should be tested together. See "The Real Vitamin and Mineral Book", by Lieberman and Bruning. The book is in error in evaluating vitamin C. The controversy between Mayo Clinic and Linus Pauling should not be used to discard vitamin C.... I recommend the book for its detailed information on supplements. It is fair to poor for cancer therapy. Reagan Houston,6/28/00.

I am a prostate cancer survivor who has had to make tough decisions on what treatment is best. This book was great in that it defined terms and procedures so the patient can make educated decisions. The info on chemo, radiation and surgery was very informative. Technical jargon like Gleason scores are defined in lay terms. This is the best book on the market for prostate cancer patients. Read this first before having any procedure. Your are responsible for your own health decisions and this will be the best tool in your education process.
