To the person who said: More pronography then medical guidance 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 16 people found this review helpful.

This reader has an issue with a woman's whole body. In many birth books all you see is from the wasit down like the woman is not a whole person. When we focus on the whole picture (a womans torso, breasts and FACE!) we remember this isn't a birthing machine that needs fixing; this is a person, a woman, a mother.

More pronography then medical guidance 1 out of 5 stars.

While certain anatomical photos are certainly necessary to help explain birth, this book goes way beyond medical visuals and seems to have gone out of its way to include pictures that border on pornography. There's even diagrams that were amended to include "details" clearly not necessary to serve as an effective visual aid. Moreover, why it is necessary to have so many waistup shots of women's breasts and pretty blatnat ones to boot when a baby comes out of the body waist below is beyond on us. We tried at first to ignore the pictures and read the book, but it just got so obscenre for us, we shelved it with plans to throw it away. Men buying Penthouse will definitely like this book!

Disappointed 2 out of 5 stars.
17 of 63 people found this review helpful.

I was very disappointed with this book. The author continually tells the reader to be kind and gentle with children, and then recommends "alternatives to spanking" that are simply other types of punishments: time out, removal of privileges, and the like. She simply doesn't get it that children are human beings who behave as well as they are treated, and who will behave well when treated with love and respect. Would the author respond well if her partner tried to control her in these ways? There are many better choices - see the book titles listed at The Natural Child Project and La Leche League websites.

Editorial Review:

Boys need to be noticed, admired, understood, and accepted to feel good about themselves. Boys who lack appropriate emotional support from the adults close to them are at risk of believing they don't fit in and are likely to act accordingly, engaging in risky behaviors-including at worst using drugs and acting out violently. Raising Confident Boys teaches readers what makes boys prone to low self-esteem and provides practical, effective tips for managing these situations as they arise.

I thought the book was very informative,it lets a parent look at somethings in a different way and helps with better communication between the parent and the teenager. I thought some things were very helpful and some were a little tough to go with, I still feel some rules of grounding are still old fashion rules but they do work and you need to keep them guided on the right track towards their future.

Editorial Review:

Parents know the challenges of raising teenagers. This popular guide is filled with easy-to-understand-and-apply skills that help parents connect with teens and deal with their "issues." Editorial Review:

Harville Hendrix has illuminated the paths to healthy, loving relationships in his New York Times bestsellers Getting the Love You Want and Keeping the Love You Find. Now, with his coauthor and wife, Helen Hunt, he brings us to a new understanding of the most profound love of all -- by helping parents nurture their own development as they encourage emotional wholeness in their children.

This groundbreaking book offers a unique opportunity for personal transformation: by resolving issues that originated in our own childhood, we can achieve a conscious, and thus healthier, relationship with our children, regardless of their age. Harville Hendrix and Helen Hunt help us explore:

  • The Imago -- the fantasy partner that our unconscious mind constructs from those we loved as a child, a that has guided our search for a life partner
  • Maximizer and Minimizer parents -- the defensive styles that internally shape what we say and how interact with our children
  • A Parenting Process that helps to end the "cycle of wounding" -- the handing-down of wounding we received as children -- as we raise our own children
  • Safety, Support, and Structure -- how to give children what they really need from us
  • Modeling Adulthood -- using our healed sense of self as a model for our children.

With other practical, insightful approaches that can powerfully shape the parent-child bond, Giving the Love that Heals gives us the keys to helping our children to become healthy, responsible, and caring people.

A salesperson sizing up a customer. A manager trying to motivate an employee. A teacher attempting to make a point with a student. Should they joke around? Stick to the facts? Make small talk? Cut to the chase? How do they "read" the other person quickly to discover what strategy is best? Now, Paul Tieger and Barbara Barron-Tieger at last provide the answers. Drawing on the same scientifically validated Personality Type model that most Fortune 500 companies use, they show just how easy it is to identify key personality characteristics through a person's appearance, vocabulary, body language, occupation, education, and interests. Filled with real-life examples and easy-to-follow directions, The Art of Speed-Reading People explains what motivates and drives each different type -- and what communication strategies will be most successful. For salespeople, managers, teachers, and anyone else who has to deal with the human factor at work -- and who doesn't? -- here is the business how -to book of the year.
