THE FALL by Ron Franscell. (A MUST HAVE)

A roller coaster ride from heck!! Keeps you on the edge of your seat from the time you open the cover. Very well written and a book you can't put down. Get ready to pull an all nighter. I shall not ruin it by giving details but I will say throw away your 3 D glasses and latest graphics card for this book will take you away to the place it happened, you will feel as if you are living it. Based on a true story, this book will open your mind and slap you in the face. Beyond brilliant. The Author does something very unique in this story. He watched the story unfold right in front of him. He chooses not to judge or really give a complete opinion. He allows the reader to be Judge and Jury. You can tell it deeply effected him but he presents itFall: The Rape and Murder of Innocence in a Small TownFall: The Rape and Murder of Innocence in a Small Town in a way that he leaves out his own emotion so that it can be replaced by yours.

This book was well written and almost all the words were spelled correctly (a problem in some true crime books). The story was scary and the author made it believable. It wasn't a rehash of newpaper articles on the crime (also another problem with true crime books, in my opinion). Very good read.

A disturbing journalistic account of a gang rape of a mentally retarded girl by athletes in an upper-class New Jersey town. Bernard Lefkowitz doesn't just report the "facts" of the crime, as in many books in the "true crime" genre. He also analyzes the culture of an upper-class community to illustrate the masculine norms that fuel such crimes and hamper reporting and prosecution. Indeed, one of the most astonishing aspects of this case was that the elite circle of teenagers at the local high school all knew about the crime for many months before it was finally reported - by an African American boy who became a paraiah as a result. The book is incredibly well researched; Lefkowitz (a journalism professor at Columbia University) obviously immersed himself in the case and the community. [...]

This is a book that should be read by everyone who is in college, teaches at a college, is a college administrator, and parents of college students. It is incredibly informative and is a real eye-opener. Please, remember that this book was written over 10 years ago. It is somewhat dated, but still pertains to the problem to acquaintance rape today. Read this and take the information in. People need to realize the prevalence of rape on campuses and between acquaintances. Should be read by everyone so that myths can be abolished and people can truly see acquaintance rape for what it is-- RAPE and, subsequently, a crime punishable by prison.

I Never Called it Rape is a classic book integrating research and womens survivor stories that really helps women to understand about how rape occurs, what it really means, and how to go about recovering for it. Based on the most comprensive study about rape to date, done in the 1980s, Warshaw weaves in the stories of survivors in a poetic an poignant way throught this masterpiece. My only criticism is that the statistics are now 20 years old and it is clearly time for a new edition, or similar book like it, to be written.
