wealth of information...but a little too hippie-dippy for me 3 out of 5 stars.

This book seems to be "the authority" on this topic, however, I would NOT have bought it had I known that...

1) ...the hippie-dippy thing was so prevelant. Ok. So anyone who is looking for a book about making their own herbal preparations is a bit of a hippie anyway, but the new-agey spiritual practices and views promoted compromise the integrity of the book. Because I don't really plan on communicating with the plants I harvest, as the book recommends. It felt as much a spiritual textbook as herbal preparation texbook. I have several "herbaly" books, but this leans a little more "fruitcake" than the rest. Knowledgeable and experienced fruitcake, but fruitcake nonetheless.

2) ...the amount of information was much more than I, a hobbyist, could possibly ever use. For those pursuing herbal medicine more seriously, the abundance of specific information is fantastic. I typically enjoy "too much information", but this was one time I found the info and amount of detail difficult to wade through. And the design/layout didn't help. Do not consider this book as a "simple overview" on the subject.

3) ...the book had no specific information on several of the herbs I had wanted to use. There are 35 most commonly used herbs that are featured for preparation and use. The simplification is largely appreciated...unless the herbs you want to use are not on the list. That said, the list of 35 did contain the majority of herbs I had wanted to prepare.

So yes, this book has (almost) all the information you'd want on preparing your own herbal medicines, which would normally have earned it five stars. But the flaws I mentioned reduce its value significantly, and for that I do not plan to keep it in my collection.

This is an excellent resource on WHY fasting can be beneficial and how to best accomplish it - different types of fasing, the benefits and potential problems with each, and how to accomplish the fast. If, however, you're looking for a book with specific receipies to follow while on a juice fast, the book is light.

Some good information, the rest is garbage 2 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book to better help me in managing my Crohn's disease during flare-ups. I pretty much bought the book based on the title and thought it would be helpful.

The author right off the bat says that if you are going to fast, you REALLY need to fast without ANY intake of food except water, but if you are going to juice fast, this is how you do it. He concentrated more on fasting than juice fasting, which seems to make this book title mis-leading.

He also goes as far as saying that self-purging (finger down the throat) may be required to purge the body of inpurities. Whoa, time out, that is a bit extreme.

I cannot give the book just one star, because there was some good information in there about fasting symptoms and other general tid-bits, but since this author has absolutely no credentials, I would seriously question anything he suggests to do.

I purchased this book as a gift for a fellow graduate student who is studying the relationship between vascular plant roots and fungi. He and our professor/advisor oohhed and aahhed over it. I should have gotten one for our advisor too!

A quality book with great photos through-out and it is very readable! I have come to the conclusion that mycologists aren't pretentious wordy folks! They enjoy their work, enjoy spreading their knowledge and it is obvious in this book! I agree with the previous reviews - this book should be recommended, if not required reading for any botany or mycology course.

The Natural Cures/Kevin Trudeau company stole money from me!!! Even if you are not buying this book from the infomercial, do not give this man any more money as he is a thief and scam artist who is being pursued by the government on Fraud charges. Once his company gets your credit card information (for their "free" newsletter that was offered with the book) they conveniently keep charging your card long after cancelling your order. I tried to cancel numerous time because I did not want it in the first place but they never did. This company charged me multiple times and refused to give me credit. Finally my credit card company had to get involved because Natural Cures found no record of my multiple requests to cancel what I did not order. The company still refused to refund all my money!

Now, after 6 months, they have started charging my credit card again and are giving me the run around about refunding it. I contacted them over a month ago and they are still telling me it will take another 30 days for a refund for something I did not order. Be wary of this man and this company!
