Baby Massage: The Calming Power of Touch 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

This has been one of the best purchases I have made since the birth of my son nine months ago. It has taught me how to massage him in a way that has helped me gain his trust. Not only does it relax him before bed, but it gives us some precious bonding time that can't be matched! I sing his favorite song while I do it, and someday, when he can talk, I'm sure he will sing along. I have suggested this book to all of my 'Mom' friends, and I urge all Mom's (and Dad's) to buy this one!!

Infants are conscious too? 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This is just a really nice book, solidly in the tradition of, "YOUR INNER PHYSCIAN AND YOU".

It's written in a soft, intimate yet delightful one-on-one voice much like Viola Fryman, DO, or even better, a Children's Story book, and oozes with sensitivity.

I would recommend for anyone who has performed CranioSacral for Pediatrics, and especially, for any worried mothers in the USA or Abroad who don't know where else to turn for thier little ones.

It is refreshing to see an infant or toddler treated in the medical literature as something other than a piece of meat to be poked, prodded, and put away. Here, the little one is allowed to express as a conscious, sentient being.

(Parents of Autistic children rejoice!)

Etienne and Neeto Peirsman know what they are doing with infants in crises. This becomes very clear in their generous case histories, especially, "Where, Dear Soul, Do You Come From?" It's not always so easy as we grown ups may think.

If you're a CranioSacral fan and enjoyed the ease of reading Upledger's, "YOUR INNER PHYSICIAN AND YOU", you'll love this!

Well done.

Author of,
TOUCH THE OCEAN: THE POWER OF OUR COLLECTIVE EMOTIONS

Editorial Review:

This unique first book shows, through pictures and step-by-step instructions, how to give a baby or small child a full craniosacral treatment. The authors approach babies as conscious beings who endure enormous stress during the birth process. They show how CS therapy can help restore the correct alignments in babies' bodies, freeing them to grow and attain their maximum potential without hindrance. The book focuses on what a trained CS therapist can do to remove the blockages that often arise during birth. It addresses both hands-on techniques and awareness of how to interact with a baby and what responses and effects to expect. Based on the authors’ extensive experience, this guide can also be used by parents or caregivers interested in knowing what babies need in order to be whole and healthy, and how to prevent problems — including hyperactivity and ADD — that could become serious and require medication later in life.

Suzanne has it down. You might begin this book with the intention of giving your baby all of the benefits that massage has to offer Such as promoting physiological, neurological and psychological development and function.

But, as it turns out, the bonding that occurs during these special times you spend with your baby are priceless. Developing a deep relationship with your baby that will last a lifetime.

Beautifully written, with photos to demonstrate the techniques that could be an art book in and of themselves. You get a feeling of being a part of something magical and wonderful by reading this book and practicing what's in it. I love the simplicity of this book. Highly recommend it for new moms or anyone interested in infant massage.

Editorial Review:

The international classic—the ancient art described and illustrated with 70 of the author's own photographs. In Loving Hands, the renowned obstetrician uses his deep insight into childcare—as well as knowledge gleaned from traveling in India—to show how to use the flowing rhythms of the art of baby massage to communicate love and strength to infants in the weeks and months following birth. The book explains the simple techniques of the massage by following a radiant young mother as she communicates to her children through the primal language of touch and sensation. 70 b/w photos.

The Master's 1st presentation of his Method's foundations 5 out of 5 stars.
27 of 28 people found this review helpful.

I contend that rigidity [...] i.e., the adherence to a principle to the utter exclusion of its opposite, is contrary to the laws of life." Thus wrote Feldenkrais in this book in 1949, when he was 45 years old, already an expert in Judo and with a PhD in physics. In those years he settled for some time in Britain after having emigrated from Russia, where he was born, to Palestine, and then travelled to France, where he spent a few years studying science and training in Judo. The book presents the essence of his phenomenally wide perspective about re-opening the path for personal development.

He puts himself alongside the great masters searching for methods for cure from ailments, both physical and mental. His motto is learning, which he considers "the uniqueness of Man". Learning in the deep, dynamic, sense of perpetually creating and utilizing new options for experience and action. Continuous learning requires that we shall not forget that "...the principles we learn are themselves ephemeral and not absolute".

Here are the foundations of his approach presented to the intelligent reader. To read the book you must be willing to deal with a style of writing which, however demanding, goes straight into all topics which Moshe considered vital to his method.
A condensed description of the conditions of our existence, touching upon such topics as neurology, prehistory, child development, individual-society relationships, and more. A rare discussion of gravitation and the anti-gravity mechanism is followed by a discussion of the effects of emotion (especially anxiety and the attitude to sexuality) on posture and on personal patterns of movement. Here you can read one of Moshe's earlier presentations of the ideas that guided him through the development of his unique method and technique of therapy and instruction by direct contact with the nervous system. The aim is to re-tune it toward a gradual development of a personal style of action characterized by more freedom and elegance. If you are really interested in Moshe's ideas written in the personal, concentrated, somewhat arid style of his younger years, this book will be an exciting addition to your library for many years to come

Editorial Review:

A victim of debilitating injuries, Moshe Feldenkrais was intimately aware of the link between bodily suffering and mental health. Through healing himself, he made revolutionary discoveries, culminating in the development of the method that now bears his name. In an intellectually rich and eloquent style, Feldenkrais delves into neurology, prehistory, child development, gravity and anti-gravity, reflexive versus learned behavior, the effects of emotion, especially anxiety, on posture, and most importantly, the inseparability of body and mind.

This book has affected my family, my friends, and my life. 5 out of 5 stars.
28 of 29 people found this review helpful.

I read this book shortly after my wife delivered a set of twins, both of which weighed over 7pounds. My wife understandably suffered from strained back and shoulder muscles. I bought the book thinking that it might save me a chiropractor bill. What a wonderful surprise. Not only did it save me a doctors bill, it worked like majic on my wife's back and shoulders. That was 5 years ago and many books and many hours of massage have passed since then. I have worked on family and friends ever since. Even met people who have heard of me through acquantances and the results are still unbelievable. Although I have not been able to completely and totally cure everyone, there have been very few that I could not help to some degree. It's a wonderful feeling to be able to help people through such a wonderful medium.

Although I do not believe in Yin and Yang, I do believe in massage and pressure point therapy. This is a wonderful book and I offer my sincere thanks to Peijian Shen.

Editorial Review:

This fully illustrated, step-by-step guide to simple pain relief covers everything from headaches to back pain to tennis elbow, all using Oriental massage and pressure techniques. Full-color illustrations and diagrams throughout.

With foot map of reflexology point for babies, and a section with disease (like colic, asthma, ecc.) and reflex point.

Great buy!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is great. It is simple and easy to follow the directions. I started off with just a basic message but now I even use it for helping my son with teething, constipation and sinus problems. I love it and I'm so glad I bought it.

Editorial Review:

Your infants and children can benefit from your giving them massage (and so can you). Research shows children who receive massage are more alert, gain weight faster, sleep more soundly, and suffer less anxiety. Choose from a 10-minute massage for a newborn to techniques for older children of any age, including a centuries-old Ayurveda massage from India especially designed for times when kids are overactive during the day or restless at bedtime. Photos and captions illustrate each move of a parent's hands and a baby's body. Soothing movements to the child's stomach can relieve colic, and other techniques can heal common ailments such as teething, earache, and congestion, as you make these loving touches a part of your child's daily routine.

Heart In the Right Place 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The intention of this book is nice. The content is just too much! The onesie is cute - for a few washings, and the print is so small - hard to read. I know the subject is important, I just think it could have been delivered in a much more concise manner. There is a newer book out there now by Suzanne P. Reese titled: Baby Massage - Soothing Strokes For Healthy Growth, and it's compact, easy-to-read and she gets right to the point without the need for so much text before you finally get to the strokes.....and Ms Reese's book has photos of real babies - not drawings. Much cuter and fun to look at!

Editorial Review:

Research indicates that massage is beneficial for infants in many ways. By the author of the best-selling Hands on Feet, this 160-page guide explains where and how to safely massage a baby to help relieve colic, irritability, and other common afflictions. It comes with an adorable "onesie," a one-piece, snap-on baby garment, preprinted front and back with a colorful design that shows just where to massage for specific results.

You need to have some prior massage exprience 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Purchased this book for my sister, who is a first time mom. She had great difficulty in following it. The set up is confusing. The illustrations lack any directional guidance. You need some massage background to follow the written instructions. There is an overwhelming amount of initial instructions that can be a bit intimidating. If you're a massage therapist, this book will be a great addition. If you're a first time parent, with very little time, find another book. Furthermore, the paperback will not stay open while you try the massage moves, so you need someone to hold the book.

Excellent 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a fundamentally a good teaching tool, especially when there is no one to teach you in person.

Every thing u need to know about infant massage not just strokes. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

when I ve first seen this book on amazon I thought it is only about how to massage your baby, I thought it is just strokes and no more, and I wasn't 100% content about it. Now after reading it I found every thing about infant massage; the benefit of massage with scientific proof, the strokes, which strok is first and which is last, what about babies who doesn't like massage(like my own boys when they were infants), the effect of it on colicky baby, how massage reshape hte relation with mother and baby. Last but not least, I also like how this book helps big sister/brother to set a strong relation with his/her new sibling.

Editorial Review:

With more than 90,000 copies of the first edition in print, Infant Massage has been completely revised and updated to reflect fascinating new research about the effects of touch on parent-child bonding, infant stress, sensory development, and the care of special-needs babies.

Editorial Review:

Building Babies Better presents a framework to aide parents and caregivers in choosing the best activities and environments for their children. The author, a pediatric physical therapist, developed this framework based on prenatal and neonatal concepts learned in her professional and personal experiences with children over the past 30 years. While the main focus of the book is the baby from newborn through the first year of life, sections are included on applying these principles to the toddler/preschool child, adoption and bonding issues, as well as the child with special needs.

After presenting an overview of early child development and keys to good sensory-motor development, specific applications are discussed. Each chapter is written with the busy parent in mind, including easy to-follow directions, illustrations and a summary of activities to encourage/avoid at each stage. Whenever possible activities are incorporated into regular daily routines, such as how best to hold your baby, how to make feeding time more effective, and making floor time play more beneficial.

In a world that is exploding with baby gear and items to stimulate baby, Building Babies Better gives parents a tool to evaluate whether these things will have a positive or negative impact on their child. They also learn to evaluate their child’s total environment, including vision, hearing, and touch so that they can make their child’s environment less stressful. Through Building Babies Better parents discover new ways to interact with their child in a calming, enjoyable way that has a lasting, positive impact.
