Sex is at the core of our identities. And when it becomes a compulsion, it can unravel our lives.

Out of the Shadows is the premier work on this disorder, written by a pioneer in its treatment. Revised and updated to include the latest research--and to address the exploding phenomenon of cybersex addiction--this third edition identifies the danger signs, explains the dynamics, and describes the consequences of sexual addiction and dependency. Great information on a relevant topic 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Meg is quick to point out that sexual addiction isn't about sex, and a sexual addict isn't just the guy you see on "To Catch A Predator." Sexual addiction has quite possibly visited the guy in the cubicle next to you at work or the pastor in your pulpit. Meg's book is about the redemption and restoration of a woman's heart that's been torn to pieces by her husband's bad choices. If you or anyone you know has been hurt by her husband's repeated use of pornography or other sexual activity, I would encourage you to take a look at Hope After Betrayal. One of the most amazing things about the book was that Meg's husband, Dave, wrote the last chapter. He encourages women that their husband's battle is truly his battle - and Dave gives these women permission to stop enabling. Hope After Betrayal is a powerful testimony of what hard work and the love of God can accomplish in a marriage when two people are willing to walk through the fire to reach for the purest gold.

Editorial Review:

Written from firsthand experience, this amazingly open book offers hope and healing for women who have been hurt by their husband's sexual addiction.

Editorial Review:

Since the explosion of the Internet and other forms of digital technology, the number of people addicted to pornography has skyrocketed. But there has been a distinct lack of resources to help them until now. The Porn Trap is the first book to take a comprehensive look at porn addiction and other devastating consequences of porn use, addressing the full range of problems that impact everyone from recreational "dabblers" to compulsive addicts, and the people who care about them.

In this groundbreaking book, sex and relationship therapists Wendy and Larry Maltz take on this important subject with wisdom, authority, and compassion. They shed new light on the power of pornography—revealing why it's so easy to develop a serious problem with porn and often hard to break free from its clutches. Without judgment or blame, the Maltzes outline the destructive effects of porn use, and offer a commonsense, practical approach for healing supported by innovative exercises, checklists, and suggestions.

The Porn Trap will help you to:

  • Identify and evaluate the impact of porn
  • Decide whether it's time to quit using porn
  • Learn how to stop using porn and deal with cravings
  • Rebuild self-esteem and restore personal integrity
  • Heal a relationship harmed by porn use, and
  • Develop a thriving and satisfying sexual life without porn

Throughout the book are powerful real-life stories from everyday people from all walks of life who have struggled with porn and gotten out from under its influence. Their experiences show that no matter how bad things may seem, it is possible to change and eventually triumph over this increasingly common problem.

With The Porn Trap, Wendy and Larry Maltz provide a unique blend of help, hope, and healing for all who want to move away from porn, improve their lives, and create genuine intimacy with a partner.

WHY ARE SEXUAL TEMPTATIONS SO HARD TO RESIST WHEN THE PRICE IS SO HIGH?

We all long for true intimacy. Many people seek to fill that void by seeking sexual relationships-whether real or fantasized-that promise to provide the relief, acceptance, and fulfillment for which they long. But it is false intimacy. And as Dr. Harry Schaumburg points out, "Sexual intimacy can't relieve their deep, unmet longings."

False Intimacy goes beyond behavioral symptoms and willpower-based solutions to provide biblical guideposts for the journey to restoration. With frank honesty, False Intimacy examines the roots behind these kinds of behaviors and offers realistic direction to those whose lives or ministries have been impacted by sexual addiction.

"More people than we know battle against compelling sexual desires. Dr. Schaumburg thinks through the realities of the battle and offers a biblical perspective with wisdom, clarity, and compassion."-Dr. Larry Crabb, teacher, counselor, author of Inside Out

Wonderful and private way to heal yourself from the inside! 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 14 people found this review helpful.

Freedom from Relationship/ Co-Dependency/ Sexual Addictions is the greatest asset to this book. I started reading it when my relationship ended with a man I cared for. My bad relationship triggered many unrealistic emotions inside myself that caused me a lot of self damage by acting out and dating guys that were all bad for me because of my low self image since the break-up.
I couldn't see it at the time but I had become Addicted.

Thanks to a friend and this book my healing began two years ago and I feel so much better about myself and about my relationships with others. This book is a MUST READ!

Study it, learn it, then be well...

Editorial Review:

In our society, sex can easily become the price many women pay for love and the illusion of security. A woman who seeks a sense of personal power and an escape from pain may use sex and romance as a way to feel in control, just as an alcoholic uses alcohol; but sex never satisfies her longing for love and self-worth. In this wise and compassionate book, Charlotte Kasl shows women how they can learn to experience their sexuality as a source for love and positive power and sex as an expression that honors the soul as well as the body.

Straight forward and very practical 5 out of 5 stars.
14 of 15 people found this review helpful.

This book hits the nail on the head by dealing with the roots of sexual addiction and giving practical steps toward recovery. If you are ready to be free, then do the hard work of examining your childhood for any abuse or neglect, whether real or perceived, and you'll discover the lies you tell yourself to find comfort in impurity. This is where the real challenge is because we are so afraid of feeling that pain again. But I'm here to tell you that the path to healing is through the pain and discomfort of processing those experiences. Know this...emotional pain will not kill you but the addiction will. You will need help from others to do this but you can and you must do it to rid yourself of this demon. The book gives you all the info and direction to do this.

The best resource I've read yet 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is by far the best I've read on this subject. It doesn't dance around language or issues, but hits the subject head on with Biblical principles. I'd recommend this book (and have) to anyone suffering from sexual addiction.

Editorial Review:

A former sex addict himself, Dr. Mark Laaser offers help and hope for regaining and maintaining sexual integrity, self-control, and wholesome, biblical sexuality.

Not for wives of husbands who want to change 1 out of 5 stars.
35 of 37 people found this review helpful.

I read this book for a friend and it was nowhere near as good as Breaking Free (by Russ Willingham) that my husband and I read to address the same problem. From what I gathered, Marsha Means has never herself experienced sexual betrayal, just the fear of it. She has some basic info on codependency in the book, but I would argue that the wife chapter in Breaking Free is just as practical without all the scary stories with no resolution. If your husband wants to change, read Breaking Free together and leave this one on the shelf. You might find yourself loving your husband through his not-so-secret wars, not just living with him.

Not for those with a true sexual addiction 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this book shortly after discovering that my husband had a sexual addiction. For me, the book was too basic. If you're upset because you found an "off color" magazine in your husband's nightstand, then this book is for you. If your partner has a true sex addiction, this book seems juvenile and rediculous.

Editorial Review:

When a wife discovers her husband is entangled in sexual sin, she's devastated. This book offers proactive steps to help her heal.
