Editorial Review:

It's 3:30 a.m. and Kevin is still online, absorbed in pornographic images flashing across his computer screen, and searching for more. Hours ago he tucked his children into bed and said good night to his wife, retreating to the computer to "finish up some work." Although his late night ritual leaves Kevin ashamed and exhausted, he is too embarassed and guild-ridden to seek help. He tells himself that no one would understand anyway.

This book should be on the bestseller list 5 out of 5 stars.
19 of 21 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book because I'm writing a book on relationships. At one time I was a counselor for alcohol and drug addicts, and there are many books on addiction but they sugar coat the problems. This book just tells it like it is. The book clarified the problems with being addicted. The thoughts in the book apply to any addiction. The destruction to the family and friends applies to any addiction.

Editorial Review:

A comprehensive, practical approach to recovery for the addict. Explains what sex addiction is and how to recover from sex addiction.

This is an excellent step-by-step recovery guide! 5 out of 5 stars.

I have struggled with cybersex problems for over a year, and this book is the only one that really helped me overcome and address my addiction. I spent nearly 40 hours a week in sex chat rooms and this caused a great deal of pain in my work and marriage. Dr. Young's book provided a simple yet comprehensive recovery plan that helped me to stay off the computer for sex chat while still being able to use it for work-related purposes. She outlined why cybersex is so appealing and provided practical and concrete exercises to stay sober even when relapse was a mouse click away. While the book focused on the individual cybersex addict, there was plenty of material that helped my wife understand my problem and a chapter on how couples can rebuild trust and communication. My wife found this very helpful and we really have made a new start. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has struggled with cybersex addiction.

Editorial Review:

Tangled in the Web offers a critical look at cybersex fantasy and its potential for addiction and provides a comprehensive plan for recovery to help individuals hooked on adult chat rooms, online pornography, web cam sex, or a cyberaffair

Editorial Review:

For What I Hate I Do is a stunning yet fact-based fictional look at the abysmal and catastrophic lifestyle of protagonist Miguel Morris, an NCAA track and field champion whose sexual addictions (underscored by chemical abuse), send him on a downward spiral and bring so much hell on earth that it endangers himself and others. Endorsements, college, money and marriage are lost, marred by bad decisions and unsavory acquaintances, such as those who recruit him to become a sexual predator. Miguel feels betrayed by men and begins victimizing hoodlums and prostitutes. Ultimately, a shocking criminal element evolves that stirs a police and media frenzy for the former model and NCAA track and field champion who trades the opportunity to earn Olympic gold for silver handcuffs instead. Once while seeking redemption, he relapses and completely compromises his Baptist morals by becoming an exotic dancer. A single biblical verse in Roman captures Miguel's struggles: For What I Hate I Do, which paraphrased means, I really want to do what is right, but I don't do it. Instead, I do the very thing I hate.

In his breakthrough book on obsessions of the heart, best-selling author Stephen Arterburn examines love addiction why it is on the rise, what it looks like, who it afflicts and what to do if you suspect yourself or someone you love to be suffering from it. Like alcoholics or drug addicts, love addicts get high on sex and romance, develop a tolerance for them and need ever-greater doses to keep going. If you believe that someone close to you may be struggling with love addiction, this book can open your eyes and offer methods for broaching and solving the problem. If you believe that you yourself may be battling addiction, When You Love to Much will help you recognize the truth and guide you on the road to real and lasting intimacy. Things My Dad Never Taught Me 5 out of 5 stars.
53 of 56 people found this review helpful.

Dad never taught me that the way man-woman relationships areportrayed on TV is unrealistic. No dad could know how to respond toall the temptations and thoughts that a young man faces, but this book tells more than the average dad knows. It exposes the sexual myths that are rampant in our country. It explains how our thought processes concerning unhealthy sexual activity can be reshaped with the help of the Word of God. There is a wonderful example of reprograming your thoughts: A cup of dark brown coffee represents your mind darkened by lustful, sinful, even criminal thoughts. But you can't empty your mind, so what can you do? The answer: Spoon in an ice cube, and then another, and another, and so on until the coffee has been diluted so much that it now looks almost clear. The ice cubes represent the good, pure, wholesome, kind, healthy thoughts which you can think daily and every time you are challenged by unhealthy thoughts. This book gives hope for freedom from sexual problems all the way from looking at pornography to rape, incest and even homosexuality. The steps to freedom in Christ are fully explained so that anyone can follow them. I recommend this book highly in my counseling practice.

Editorial Review:

For people trapped by unwanted thoughts, compulsive habits, or painful pasts, Anderson provides steps to overcome sexual strongholds. No matter how high the walls, escape is possible. Readers will discover practical and biblical insights to help them discover true freedom through Christ.

A must for recovering partners of sex addicts! 5 out of 5 stars.
24 of 25 people found this review helpful.

This book puts forward some very valuable exercises for recovery from discovering your partner is a sex addict. It is an important part of my library, and a must for anybody trying to break out of their codependent/co-sex addicted behaviors. Although the author acknowledges that there are both male and female sex addicts, however, this book is written with the assumption that the reader is female. Most exercises in the book easily apply to both genders of recovering partners, however. Male partners may be offended by the language, and the assumption that the reader is female. I would recommend trying it anyway.... It has such excellent suggestions!

"Silent War" is appropriately named 5 out of 5 stars.

I grew up "in the church", Once, in a high school Sunday morning Bible class, I asked "What is circumcision?" Our teacher replied "Go ask your dad" and made fun of me. He had the whole class laughing at me. Why would I know? We never discussed anything of a sexual nature in church or home. Maybe it was the generation I was growing up in. It is no wonder that any Christian man with a porn problem cannot turn to anyone for help. Henry Rogers breaks the ice of (s-i-l-e-n-c-e) on this subject. I believe the reason you don't hear sermons about this problem is because the man in the pulpit may be losing the battle himself.

I had questions about the women who are "used" to produce porn. Henry answered all those questions. They do not live happily ever after spending their hard earned money. Men, we can fight the battle here and now, or we may feed all of our sons and daughters to the monster in the next generation. No joke. The proliferation of porn on the internet, as Henry so clearly demonstrates, is like a "former" alcoholic who rents a room upstairs above a tavern. He walks past the liquor and drinkers every night to his room. Having the internet in your home is like having liquor coming out of the spout in your kitchen. Who needs the temptation? Jesus said it best. "If your eye offends you, pluck it out." It is a whole lot less painful to get filtered internet than to gouge out your eye. Thanks for a painfully honest book. I am a former addict, and I needed the boost.

Editorial Review:

This is the first comprehensive volume of the clinical management of sex addiction. Collecting the work of 28 leaders in this emerging field, the editors provide a long-needed primary text about how to approach treatment with these challenging patients. The book serves as an excellent introduction for professional new to the field as well as serving as a useful reference tool. The contributors are literally the pioneers of one of the last frontiers of addiction medicine and sex therapy.

With a growing awareness of sex addiction as a problem, plus the advent of cybersex compulsion, professional clinicians are being confronted with sexual compulsion with little clinical or academic preparation. This is the first book distilling the experience of the leaders in this emerging field. With a focus on special populations, it also becomes a handy problem-solving tool. Readable, concise, and filled with useful interventions, it is a key text for a problem clinicians must be able to identify. It is destined to be a classic reference.
