Editorial Review:

Stop Being the String Along: A Relationship Guide to Being THE ONE will guide you to: * Authentically empower yourself in your romantic relationships * Become your own best friend * Have authentic communication * Learn how to never settle again * Take the manipulative games out of your relationships * Attract a partner that is a fantastic match for you * Learn how to spiritually evolve in a Sacred Relationship * End negative patterns in your relationship * Learn 50 reasons to stay in a relationship * Learn 50 reasons to leave skid marks * Uproot negative programming that has kept you stuck in String Along misery * Learn what it takes to finally get it right In her groundbreaking book Stop Being the String Along, Barbara Rose states: "Give me ten minutes and I can tell you if you are destined to being a string along or THE ONE for the rest of your life!" Rose does this by identifying the "string along warning signs." We all have string along messages thrown onto us that have been imprinted within our subconscious minds. It is in identifying them, and bringing them out into our conscious awareness that turns a string along into THE ONE. You can know every trick in the book about catching someone, subtlety coercing them, and playing a host of games to get what you want, but if you are subconsciously being the string along you will never succeed in a relationship, and even if you do get married, it will most likely not last! The great news is that now you can easily uncover the old string along programming and create authentic, thriving relationship success. If you are not doing as well in your relationship as you would like, you will have to uproot your subconscious string along messages. Unfortunately your current string along messages will tend to stay with you for the rest of your life, unless you identify and revise them, and that's exactly what you will do with the help of this extraordinary book. According to Barbara Rose, it's simple. If you think like THE ONE thinks and do what THE ONE does, chances are you'll be THE ONE too!

Not for those who want to heal their marriage / relationship. 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

As another reviewer stated, "The theme is rather unnerving in that one might conclude that it is inevitable that most marriages/relationships will fail." Yes, that is what Ms. Kingma believes and slowly convinces you into believing it too, if you are "one the fence" about leaving a relationship. She ENCOURAGES divorce and breaking up, and validates your decision to do so, as the title implies. (jmho).

If you are working on your relationship or marriage, this is NOT the book for you. This book will take whatever is left of it and guide you in how to end it - literally. See pgs. 76 & 77 as an example.

We know much more about the psychodynamics of marriage and relationships since this book was published, though it was only eight years ago. Family of Origin issues that go uncovered or denied are often at the root of relationship and marital issues, issues that if uncovered, healed and understood, could save a viable relationship or marriage.

NOT ALL realtionships end after an affair, end when there are differences in personality, beliefs, or opinions. Many of those differences were there when ther couple came together. It may even be what attracted them to each other... a balance in the coupling. Many unnecessarily do end marriages and relationship, due to the type of "biased" advice such as Ms. Kingma's, complete with a step-by-step recipe on how to do it and why you should.

Interesting that she also authored a book titled, "True Love"! I thought she just told (convinced) us there is no such thing?

This book seems to have been written for and popular with those who want out of a relationship or have already ended one. A kind of self-validation of, "I did the right thing". If validation of your decision to end your relationship is what you are looking for... you will certainly find that in 'Coming Apart'.... a "how-to" book on break-up and divorce.

PS - If you don't work out your issues in the relationship you are in... you will continue to revisit the same issues in the next, and the next, relationship until you do. Running away from relationship/marital problems, does not make them "go-away". The grass in NOT always greener in the next relationship... it's usually the same old grass, just in a different yard.

A well written classic about the human sexual experience. 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a new edition of a classic book about human sexuality. It is informative, tastefully written and illustrated, and in no way pornographic. A good book for young couples (or older) who might wish to deepen their understanding of their own sexuality through expert advice and education rather than the cheapness of lesser books or porn.

Editorial Review:

The ultimate guide to lovemaking

The uninhibited bestseller that has sold more than 8 million copies since its first publication in 1972 is now updated and revised for a new generation. As captivating and provocative as ever, and filled with illustrations, The Joy of Sex sparks the imagination with its playful, erotic, and exhilarating presentation. But most of all, it is the no-nonsense yet fun approach of Dr. Alex Comfort that speaks to anyone seeking to achieve greater sexual satisfaction -- as he contends with every aspect of our sexual territory, including today's most vital issues: AIDS and other venereal diseases, the practice of responsible sex, birth control, Viagra, menopause, and more.

Candid, inviting, and informative, this is the classic guide that's never gone out of style, as decades of readers discover that nothing compares to the joy of sex.

I'd recommend this book for any Dom wishing to improve his/her game.

A Good Book 3 out of 5 stars.

This book is good for a beginner because it gives you a more philosophical view of being in a sub/dom relationship. It stresses safety when playing. The writer is an experienced dominant who expresses himself well. It is a good companion book to SM 101.

Good beginners book 3 out of 5 stars.

This is a good beginners book with short sections on different topics. That's all it is thoughm a beginners book. If you're looking for something more in-depth, then this book will do nothing but disappoint you. I ordered this book along with Different Loving. This one is now shelved while Different Loving is being refered to over and over again. Unless you're a beginner or someone just curious, I wouldn't get this one.

simple truths that will change how you view your relationships 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book was recommended to me by a friend whose relationship it saved. I read it and was amazed at how it resonated. You think you are so unique and then you read sections that are basically word-for-word recaps of conversations you have had with your partner and realize you are textbook after all. Its comforting and discomforting at the same time... I have recommended it to several more friends and each comes back to me with amazement at how right on it is. It is a book that I return to again and again to gain perspective on my actions.
A favorite example of its wisdom: "Commitment is the promise to participate in a well-intentioned, monogamous, open-ended, responsible, and realistic relationship." Now that doesn't seem so scary, does it?

Editorial Review:

Authors  Stephen Carter and Julia Sokol explore why modern men  and women are torn between the desire for intimacy  and the equally intense need for independence.  Drawing on numerous interviews and real-life  scenarios, and written with humor, insight, and the kind  of wisdom gained by personal experience,  He's Scared, She's Scared offes guidance  for all of us who want genuine, sustained intimacy  with our romantic partners.

The Best Review about The Rules 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Have you noticed that most of the negative comments about this book are written by men? Well, there's a reason for that. Men don't want to feel "manipulated" or part of some strategic plot. Understandable. However, guess what? This book isn't written for them! It's written for women, only. No matter how hard men try, they will never know what it's like to be a WOMAN and not asked out, or to have men constantly ask you out, but then they all lose interest. It's too painful, so let's give ourselves an honest break.

These Rules aren't to deceive anyone, contrary to what some people may say. They're actually to transform and empower a woman. I'll admit, if a normally talkative/boisterous woman acts quiet just to get her man, then she's not being honest and that's wrong. The authors, Ellen and Sherrie, do not support that kind of behavior. They actually want women to work on their dating skills, like someone working on their cooking or writing skills.

How would a man feel if a woman frequently called him at 2am in the morning with her emotional issues? She talked too much and wouldn't get off the phone when a man has to work the next day? She quits all her extracurricular activities/hobbies just so she can pursue a man? Shows up at a man's doorstep one weekend without calling first and expects him to entertain her (even though he may have already had plans)? She nags or tells a man what to do, like his mother would?

Women don't really do that, right? Wrong! Heck, I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I used to do some of those things myself, and I know PLENTY of other women that still do. That's the point! Even if some of the methods in the book seem a bit extreme, it's helping women (especially ones with low-self esteem or can't seem to get/keep a man) learn important skills of respect (a man's time) and about having a life of their own, which is very attactive.

My story: People were saying, "You're so smart, attractive, and talented...how come you're not married?" I definitely had men pursuing me, but then they seemed to ALWAYS lose interest. I used to think I was cursed or God hated me. Then a friend suggested The Rules book and it turned my love life around. Suddenly I learned how to keep a man by not being so obnoxious and pursuing him too heavily, and giving him the space a respect a man deserves. And it wasn't deception either. I worked hard to make these skills truly part of my life and not some false front to deceive anyone.

And guess what? I married an amazing man! He's tall, handsome, very intelligent (PhD), has a great job, superb personality and wit, and very much a gentleman. After his divorce, he seriously had women throwing themselves at him and pursing HIM! He would initially like these women, but they seemed so clingy and needy after awhile that if turned him off. Then when he met me, I was pursing an intense career, dating lots of other amazing men, and didn't have time to spend hours on the phone/computer bearing my soul to some stranger. He thought my confidence (which was sincere) was amazing and pursued me vigorously. Needless to say, he won my heart and the rest is history.

So, some may scoff, but honestly women, read the book and take it with a grain of salt. If something doesn't apply to you or feel right, test it out. If it doesn't work, don't do. Use your head and common sense. But there are lots of GREAT suggestions. And remember, this book IS NOT FOR MEN! Good luck, ladies, and I hope you marry the man of your dreams like I (finally) did!

Editorial Review:

Following the success of the New York Times bestseller How to Marry the Man of Your Choice, The Rules is a blunt, effective, controversial, funny, and definitive guide to marrying the man of your dreams. The Rules will be featured on an Oprah show, set to air close to Valentine's Day.

Editorial Review:

The national bestseller about achieving sexual satisfaction-the book that is fast becoming an essential reference for women throughout the country

For Women Only is the antidote to what women have been told for years, that their sexual problems are all in their heads. Dr. Jennifer Berman, one of the few female urologists in the United States, and her sister, Dr. Laura Berman, a sex therapist, wrote this comprehensive handbook to help the whole woman by examining all facets of women's sexual health, to arm them with the information they need about their bodies and sexual responses, and to provide them with the full spectrum of options for treatment. This is a book to take to a doctor, to give to a partner, and to share with other women.

Four in ten women of all ages in the United States experience some kind of sexual problem at some point in their lives. The Bermans founded one of the first clinics in the country dedicated to the treatment of female sexual dysfunction, and in For Women Only they draw on their own research and clinical findings to show that sexual complaints do not have to be endured, but are in fact highly treatable.

Among the topics the Drs. Berman address in For Women Only:

- Viagra and drugs like it: Will they work for women?

- The debate over the cause of female sexual dysfunction: physical, psychological, or both?

- What's behind the lag in sex research for women

- How doctors deal with female sexual complaints

- Sexual problems as a couples' issue

- The important role testosterone plays in female sexual function

- Assessing your sexual function and enhancing sexual arousal and pleasure
