i hated this book. blames everything on a screwed up childhood & tells you to get counseling.
the author doesnt offer any other explanation as to why you love people who dont love you back.
dont pay full price for this book if you want to read it.

My beloved yoga teacher recommended I read this.

I highly recommend this book.

Personally, it has been a profound experience. I can now see this is a pattern of behavior that others have gone through as well.

I have felt alone. and reading this book has given me assurance and the ground work for change, for growth and healing.
It is simple enough to read in a couple of days, but i have reread it several times now. and am working the suggested exercises.

I have used many of the tricks and tips enumerated in this book, and have found each of them to be fun and, for the most part, useful. The fact that it is a couple's guide is good, because both my significant other and I benefited from the advice. Another book we enjoyed, which is chocked full of information, is The Sensuous Couple's (Flip Over) Guide to Seismic Oral Sex. One side is all you need to know about cunnilingus. Flip it over and the other side is all you need to know about fellatio. Female orgasm is a subject that cannot be discussed too often, as far as I'm concerned. Naughty Tricks certainly helped in that area. Here is another book that gives a simple technique that enables women to reach orgasm during intercourse: Five Minutes to Orgasm Every Time You Make Love: Female Orgasm Made Simple. Buy one or all of these books, and you will be fully informed on sex for the sensuous couple.

Entertaining but Shouldn't Be Taken Seriously 2 out of 5 stars.

I read this book years ago and while entertaining, I found it to be outdated and even insulting in some ways. The book pretty much just tells you to manipulate men and then you will get what you want as a woman. Awful! This book sounds like it was marketed to women who were born in 1920. I don't know too many women who wind up having long term successful relationships by manipulating men and being someone other than who they are. Trying to be something you're not works for 5 minutes... then the real you comes out and the man you're with all of a sudden wonders where the other woman he originally met went.

Do not take this book too seriously. If you want an authentic relationship then you must be your authentic self. If you just want to jump out of one superficial relationship into another, then go ahead, play all the silly games you want, manipulate to your hearts content and read The Rules. :(

Have you noticed that most of the negative comments about this book are written by men? Well, there's a reason for that. Men don't want to feel "manipulated" or part of some strategic plot. Understandable. However, guess what? This book isn't written for them! It's written for women, only. No matter how hard men try, they will never know what it's like to be a WOMAN and not asked out, or to have men constantly ask you out, but then they all lose interest. It's too painful, so let's give ourselves an honest break.

These Rules aren't to deceive anyone, contrary to what some people may say. They're actually to transform and empower a woman. I'll admit, if a normally talkative/boisterous woman acts quiet just to get her man, then she's not being honest and that's wrong. The authors, Ellen and Sherrie, do not support that kind of behavior. They actually want women to work on their dating skills, like someone working on their cooking or writing skills.

How would a man feel if a woman frequently called him at 2am in the morning with her emotional issues? She talked too much and wouldn't get off the phone when a man has to work the next day? She quits all her extracurricular activities/hobbies just so she can pursue a man? Shows up at a man's doorstep one weekend without calling first and expects him to entertain her (even though he may have already had plans)? She nags or tells a man what to do, like his mother would?

Women don't really do that, right? Wrong! Heck, I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I used to do some of those things myself, and I know PLENTY of other women that still do. That's the point! Even if some of the methods in the book seem a bit extreme, it's helping women (especially ones with low-self esteem or can't seem to get/keep a man) learn important skills of respect (a man's time) and about having a life of their own, which is very attactive.

My story: People were saying, "You're so smart, attractive, and talented...how come you're not married?" I definitely had men pursuing me, but then they seemed to ALWAYS lose interest. I used to think I was cursed or God hated me. Then a friend suggested The Rules book and it turned my love life around. Suddenly I learned how to keep a man by not being so obnoxious and pursuing him too heavily, and giving him the space a respect a man deserves. And it wasn't deception either. I worked hard to make these skills truly part of my life and not some false front to deceive anyone.

And guess what? I married an amazing man! He's tall, handsome, very intelligent (PhD), has a great job, superb personality and wit, and very much a gentleman. After his divorce, he seriously had women throwing themselves at him and pursing HIM! He would initially like these women, but they seemed so clingy and needy after awhile that if turned him off. Then when he met me, I was pursing an intense career, dating lots of other amazing men, and didn't have time to spend hours on the phone/computer bearing my soul to some stranger. He thought my confidence (which was sincere) was amazing and pursued me vigorously. Needless to say, he won my heart and the rest is history.

So, some may scoff, but honestly women, read the book and take it with a grain of salt. If something doesn't apply to you or feel right, test it out. If it doesn't work, don't do. Use your head and common sense. But there are lots of GREAT suggestions. And remember, this book IS NOT FOR MEN! Good luck, ladies, and I hope you marry the man of your dreams like I (finally) did!

Another Useful Self-Help Book 4 out of 5 stars.

Since I've started reading the books from the Pick Up Community, I've seen a pattern in the basic ways to approach women: it's basically putting out all the good qualities associated with being a man.

Be confident. Attentive, charming, humorous. Dress better, work on conversational skills. Maintain respect but also hold the course for seduction.

All of this sounds simple enough but...I think I belong to a generation of broken homes where the battling, bewildered single parents didn't pass on ANYTHING useful to their children. Let popular music and TV guide you into the Tunnel of Love.

And what a disaster that's been. (It also didn't help that social engineering tried to instill that boys and girls are essentially the same. How damaging has that been?).

So these books, while initially provoking women to be offended that men will be taking advantage of them, end up being the education us guys never got.

THE LAYGUIDE has a title that would suggest this book is about only seducing and taking advantage of women. I didn't really get that. (If you're looking for a book that not only writes in terms of women as only sexual objects but where to go and how much to spend on endless sex objects, that would be THE PROFESSIONAL BACHELOR. Especially the second half).

THE LAYGUIDE is a smooth, well-written How To book on approaching women and moving into a relationship, whether for one night or the rest of your life.

Great book every couple should read whether thinking about marriage or not 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is a really great book for multiple reasons.

First off, the introduction is really well written and will make you face any major issues head on. It suggests if there are certain warning signs or red flags in your relationship, it might not be a relationship to stay in. Both my girlfriend and I were surprised that everything listed as warning signs and red flags pretty much described all our past serious relationships (but luckily not ours! haha). We wished we had somebody spell it out to us so clearly back when we were in them! lol

Second, this book does exactly what you are expecting it to with the 101 questions. Every single question we've read has either started a very good conversation, enlightened us into how the other views something, or was something we've discussed at length before and if we hadn't would be an important topic to talk about.

Now I suggested in the title that this book is for every couple and not just for ones thinking of getting engaged or married. It can be elightening to couples who are casually dating and want some interesting conversation topics, or couples who are getting ready to get engaged or married. Couples who are just dating will learn more about their significant other and see if it really is somebody they want to stay with. For couples who are getting engaged or married it can help work through alot of issues before the stress of being married is added into the mix.

All in all, to me it is a definite read to any couple and I will be suggesting it to all my friends and family.

An attempt to defend hypocrisy. 1 out of 5 stars.

If anyone has read the title "I kiss dating goodbye," then you are aware of Joshua Harris' ungodly and unbiblical stance against Christian relationships, and may know of the damage it has done to members of the church in modern times. Young Christians have been leaving the church in droves after discovering it is "sick and ungodly" to have coffee with friends, go on dates, or pine after someone unless God "magically" steps in.

"Boy meets Girl" is a hypocrits' attempt to defend the relationship that he entered into soon after penning his original blasphemous piece of filth. For those who don't follow modern theology or have no notion of biblical applications, this would be as if Al Gore wrote "Why I trash the world, a polluter's attempt to foul the atmosphere." after "Inconvenient Truth." It really is that much of a turn-around. Unfortunately for him, this brazen attempt by Harris to cover his tracks merely points to how scandalous, misguided and damaging his first attempt at perverting the Bible was.

I bought this product because my son had one (also called the "Shark") that would pick up sizable dog kibbies off the floor. This one was $20.00 more than he paid and it does an OK job if you're looking for a quick cleanup. The suction does not seem to be nearly that of what my son had, but it will pick up dog hair and crumbs and such. Also, I find that the bagless compartment has to be emptied quite often. Sorry, I couldn't say more. I was really excited to buy this machine, but not so excited when I actually used it.

My husband had lost completly what it meant to cherish and love me. We were doomed. No other book, not even the Bible, was helping to breath life back into our marriage. If you consider this book as nothing more than "common sense", count yourself as blessed - some of us actually needed to hear it. I bought this book at a major turning point in my life and it changed the way I looked at my future. Dr. Laura is "technically" right on almost all moral points but she does, at times, lack grace which, I admit, bothers me. And yet, at other times, I have heard her exhibit heartfelt compassion to her callers. But anyway, it is not for me to determine the motives of her heart; I can only say her advice is sound and her standard is truth.

Okay first of all, I read this entire book in about 3 hours. This was part of a study we were doing at a bible study group; and I have to say I'm cynical about this book even from a Christian's perspective.

First, take a look at the cover. See those ridiculously happy nicely dressed perfect looking people? Well if you're not one of them, this book isn't for you. It's full of superficial and contrived mini-stories. To me
they just don't seem to fit in with real life situations that people have with all the hurting and complicated lives we go through. The stories remind me of those how-to educational films from the 40's

The basic message of the book is this: learn what makes people in your life feel loved, follow the golden rule, etc. etc. It's pretty much intuition. I don't think however that it will lead to some miraculous change in how you deal with people nor will it do anything to help you establish new relationships.
