Really bad 1 out of 5 stars.

I bought this book and its utter waste of paper and money. There are much better forms available for free to be downloaded from the internet. This book is completely useless for anyone who lives outside USA. I think Americans are smart enough to google the kind of forms they are looking for.

A little out dated 3 out of 5 stars.

This book is a little outdated, but is very useful in writing you own form. Most of the forms on the disk can't be customized using newer word processing software.

Editorial Review:

Here's the classic "bible" of forms and checklists for every situation a professional photographer may face. Thoroughly expanded and updated to cover the Internet, this brand-new Third Edition contains 31 forms, each ready-to-use as is, or easily tailored to fit any situation. Photographers will find contracts for wedding, portrait, and assignment photography; property and model releases, assignment estimates, confirmations, and invoices; delivery memos; license for Web usage; nondisclosure agreements; and much, much more. An accompanying CD-ROM provides electronic versions of these forms, ready to use on both Macs and PCs.

content excellent, one little remark for the publisher. 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

The book is excellent. Although these techniques are not widely applied today, with appropriate experience and thinking this knowledge can be applied and transferred to modern software like Adobe Photoshop. It can help relate modern and classic photography printing processes (traditional vs computerized).

One little remark would be for the publisher. The paper the book is printed is gloss with quite a high reflectance index. This results in making reading the book at certain angles quite impossible for your eyes.

Editorial Review:

The Print is the third and final book in The Ansel Adams Photography Series--the seminal guides fully revised by Ansel Adams shortly before his death in 1984. The Print, now available in paperback like the other volumes in the series, belongs on every photographer's shelf. It covers the entire printmaking process, from designing and furnishing a darkroom and experimenting with your first print, to mastering advanced techniques such as developer modifications, toning, and bleaching, and burning and dodging. This thorough guide is filled with indispensable darkroom techniques and tips, and amply illustrated with photographs and technical drawings. It is an indispensable tool for mastering the complex art of photographic printmaking.

Top Notch 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is an excellent book. I've been able to get some excellent prints using the techniques described by the author. It is Photoshop oriented. I been fine art printing for about 18 months. I've been able to develop some images that were previously eluding me. I've gotten some very nice complements on these prints.

Well worth the reading.

Editorial Review:

Focusing on using digital techniques to replicate the traditional darkroom methods used to produce fine, exhibition-quality prints, Tim Daly takes the raw digital file as his starting point and illustrates a wide range of techniques for drawing out the very best version of the latent file. Illustrated with long step-by-step projects, showing each stage from start to finish, and driven by a photographic aesthetic rather than straight software techniques, this guide shows how to deliver eye-catching prints in a wide range of styles, sizes, and locations. Case studies are included which follow the entire process from raw file to final print, helping readers understand how to develop a personalized printing style using Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom, and professional digital output.

Step by Step 5 out of 5 stars.

Having been an early adapter in digital photography, it is still hard to keep up with techniques and newly availablr formats. This book is great in taking you as far as you might need to go or further if you need to.

Great For Newbies 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This was the first book on digital photography that I used when first starting out and I'm grateful I found it. It provided a solid foundation on which to build. I still refer to it occasionally. It does devote considerable space to image editing but I personally like this. Let's face it, 99% of people who do digital for very long end up using an editor. I don't use Photoshop, but the information is still useful.

The book has undergone many editions, and I noticed the latest version now in stores is by a different author. I took a look at it and in my opinion Adair's version is better, the fourth edition is anyway. There are a lot of crappy and totally useless books on digital photography out there. I can recommend this one for newbies without hesitation. It gets you started, then you'll learn on your own mostly from trial and error.

Editorial Review:

This edition updates the first with current technologies and tricks for taking, editing, and printing top quality digital pictures. Chapters cover choosing a camera, composing and taking pictures, building a photo archive on computer or online, printing photos, editing images, and projects that incorporate digital pictures. The enclosed CD-ROM contains: demos and trial versions of several photo editing tools like Adobe PhotDeluxe, LivePix, MGI PhotoSuite and PhotoImpact; and electronic photo organisers and albums such as Presto!, PhotoAlbum, Portfolio and Photo Recall. The disk also included sample images that readers can edit.

A good dtarting point 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is a great starting point for learning digital B&W conversions. It starts out with a little history and terminology of the B&W world, then dives into the different ways you can achieve this effect in Photoshop CS2, then in how to use the new B&W conversion tool in CS3. It does have a small section on Lightroom as well, but since Lightroom was new at the time of printing, this section is very thin.

I don't think the book is the definitive book for digital B&W, but I have found it very useful. I will say you will get more out of this book if you have CS3.

Editorial Review:

Digital photographers can now attain the enduring beauty of black-and-white photography in their own work! There’s more to monochrome than just discarding the color in Photoshop, but many books simply treat it as an afterthought. Not this one! John Beardsworth teaches every major method of making a color picture black and white, and explains what kind of images are best, and why. Both ambitious newcomers and advanced enthusiasts will learn how to achieve the richest tonal depth and balance, use black and white to interpret the subject for the viewer, reproduce historic and darkroom processes, add creative and special effects, and produce exhibition-quality prints.

Editorial Review:

William Eggleston's Guide was the first one-man show of color photographs ever presented at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Museum's first publication of color photography. The reception was divided and passionate. The book and show unabashedly forced the art world to deal with color photography, a medium scarcely taken seriously at the time, and with the vernacular content of a body of photographs that could have been but definitely weren't some average American's Instamatic pictures from the family album. These photographs heralded a new mastery of the use of color as an integral element of photographic composition. Bound in a textured cover inset with a photograph of a tricycle and stamped with yearbook-style gold lettering, the Guide contained 48 images edited down from 375 shot between 1969 and 1971 and displayed a deceptively casual, actually super-refined look at the surrounding world. Here are people, landscapes, and odd little moments in and around Eggleston's hometown of Memphis--an anonymous woman in a loudly patterned dress and cat's eye glasses sitting, left leg slightly raised, on an equally loud outdoor sofa; a coal-fired barbecue shooting up flames, framed by a shiny silver tricycle, the curves of a gleaming black car fender, and someone's torso; a tiny, gray-haired lady in a faded, flowered housecoat, standing expectant, and dwarfed in the huge dark doorway of a mint-green room whose only visible furniture is a shaded lamp on an end table. For this edition of William Eggleston's Guide, The Museum of Modern Art has made new color separations from the original 35 mm slides, producing a facsimile edition in which the color will be freshly responsive to the photographer's intentions.

[These] pictures are like no one else's. At once ordinary and spectacular, they look like someone's not particularly interesting snapshots until their matter-of-fact beauty and gorgeousness kick in. --Vince Aletti

Editorial Review:

Much more than a book of pictures, 100 Days in Photographs is a compelling visual journey through our age—an odyssey that's personal and universal, immediate and timeless. To create it, Getty Images and National Geographic identified 100 days that represent defining moments of the past 150 years... and crystallized them with photographs that leap from the page to evoke joy and anger, triumph and despair. Supporting the visuals are firsthand journal excerpts, photographers' on-site notes, and insightful text by photography historian Nick Yapp.

From the Getty Images archive, astonishing images depict major world events: revolution in 19th-century Europe, President Lincoln's assassination, the Eiffel Tower's construction from 1887 to 1889, Bleriot flies the English Channel in 1909, the Wall Street crash of 1929, Germany's Kristallnacht, the British quit India in 1947, and more. National Geographic's contributions illustrate scientific, cultural, and geographical topics—including the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, Jane Goodall's study of chimpanzees, Chernobyl's nuclear disaster, the cloning of sheep, the attacks of September 11, 2001, and today's global warming debate. Page after eye-catching page reveals the emotion of an entire event or age captured in a single image—whether of a peasant's tears, of world leaders sharing a secret, or the triumph of an Olympic champion. Politics, war, crime, technology, achievement, fads, and fashion all figure into the life and legacy of these 100 days.

Featuring scores of rare and unpublished photographs uncovered during its creation, this remarkable book provides new perspective on key events and personalities of the past 150 years.
