Fabulous 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I got this for my 6 year old daughter who loves fairies and mermaids. The art projects are awesome, many different ways to create, each project can take around an hour to do. Some of the projects need parental guidance for her age, delicate tissue paper, cutting tin foil, etc. but the outcome is always amazing and she loves to display her work, which really turns out to look professional. Could this book lead to a career in illustrating childrens book, very probable!
Also recommend "I can draw Animals" by Gibson, that she can do 100% herself with step by step directions.

The item arrived on time and as pictured so I would order from this seller again. But on a side note: Even though the item itself is cheap the shipping will get ya!

Editorial Review:

“Beware a mermaid’s wrath!”

The mermaid Soop has sent a flood to Fairy Haven! Water-talent fairy Rani must bring Soop a wand or the Home Tree and all the Never fairies will be swept away. But wise Mother Dove isn’t sure which is worse, a wand or a flood. Wand wishes, tantalizing wand wishes, are risky. The most innocent wish can cause untold trouble. And not even Mother Dove knows that wands have hearts and minds–kind hearts or cruel hearts, sympathetic minds or minds filled with spite and mischief.

Rani, Tinker Bell, and Ree, queen of the Never fairies, set out on a perilous quest for a wand, a journey that takes them across an ocean to the palace of the terrifying Great Wanded fairies. Many obstacles stand between the questers and success: Tink’s disappearance, a mermaid’s magical song, wand madness, and even Never Land itself. Meanwhile, the floodwaters are rising. . . .

In this thrilling sequel to Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg, Newbery Honor—winning author Gail Carson Levine has spun a riveting fairy tale about the dangers of dreams coming true.

The New Little Mermaid 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I read a five star book, it was like a new Little Mermaid. The brave main character was Emily Windsnap, and her best friend was Shauna. I'm of course talking about Emily Windsnap and the Castle in the Mist. It's the third book in the Emily Windsnap series. Although this is in a fantasy world, the author made everything seem believable, and real. Even the ruler, King of the seas, King Neptune's cruelty was believable. I could also believe what the characters did. The book is mainly about Emily, who gets cursed, how she tries to get rid of the curse, or kiss one parent good-bye forever. There are a few characters that remind me of friends and family. Emily reminds me of myself. Emily is hungry for knowledge of mermaids, and thirsty for adventure. She has also had some dramatic scenarios happen. Emily is half mermaid, half human(semi-mer). She looks like me, and even has an identical best friend to mine. My best friend has blonde hair and the same eye color as Shauna Their personalities are alike in every way. Shauna is girly, sort of adventurous, but cautious. They both share the same interests too.
There's a lot of conversation in the book but much more description. I really like how the story is written; it isn't confusing. The mood of the story is mostly adventurous, but towards the end, dramatic. After I finished this book, I felt touched and depressed. At times, it made me think of friends and family's scenarios, like choises to make, and problems to solve.
This book gets two thumbs up, for the great story line and good characters. Five gold stars out of the sky wouldn't be a fair enough rating for this phenominal 'tail'.

"An easy sell to girls looking for a friendship story with more than a touch of make-believe." — KIRKUS REVIEWS

When Emily Windsnap discovers an old diamond ring during a class hunt for trinkets, how is she supposed to know that the ring is half the key to unlocking an ancient curse by Neptune himself? Now, with the ring stuck firmly on her hand, Emily finds herself under a new curse: in just a few days, she’ll cease to be half-human and half-mermaid and must say good-bye to one of her parents forever. Can she possibly find the other missing ring that will break all the curses? Is there anyone who can help her — before it’s too late?

Editorial Review:

When an earthquake strikes Neverland Island, things quickly go very wrong. The Lost Boys' underground hideaway is flooded, forcing them to leave. Meanwhile a mysterious barrel washes ashore and falls into the hands of the pirates. When their leader, Captain Hook, finds out what's in the barrel, he hatches an evil plan.

But worst of all is the change in the mermaids. These once-peaceful friends of the natives have turned violent, using their needle-sharp teeth to attack anybody who goes into the water. When they injure some members of the native Mollusk tribe, the Mollusk leader, Fighting Prawn, feels he has no choice but to fight back.

As the warriors prepare to attack, the Lost Boys and the chief's daughters, Shining Pearl and Little Scallop, set off on a secret mission to try to make peace with the mermaids. Instead they're captured by the mermaids, and while in captivity they discover the cause of the problem - the Blood Tide, which is poisoning the lagoon and will eventually kill the mermaids. With time running out, they must try to stop the tide and save the mermaids, as well as themselves. But to do so, they must deal with Captain Hook, whose plan threatens to destroy the Mollusk village and change life on Neverland Island forever.

Better than the First! 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 11 people found this review helpful.

Just added this nifty little themed children's cookbook to my collection. I have all of Ms. Beery's books in this series and have given them as gifts with great success. The format is rather successfully designed to interest children in cooking.

All three of the books rely rather heavily on recipes for snacks and deserts. Things that kids are normally attracted to. However the "Mermaid Cookbook", third in the series includes more meal items such as salads and sandwiches and a greater use of fruit. Which gravitates more towards an awareness (albeit an unconcious one for many children.) of better eating habits.

Don't be mistaken or put off that these recipes aren't vegan or part of the trend of tricking kids into eating mystery veggies. Beery is catering towards flavor, so butter and sugar are used in her recipes. However she does suggest the replacement of honey for those moms out there who want to keep a handle on their childrens diets.

Another improvement from the Pink Princess Cookbook (still 5 stars by the way!) is that in both this and the Fairies Cookbook she includes metric and oven conversion charts.

This Cookbook is a Hit for children and adults.

Jack vs. his old enemies! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I've read all the Jack Sparrow books to my sons and every page is filled with edge of the seat excitement as well as great humor as only Jack Sparrow can provide.

In "Bold New Horizons," Jack meets up with his old crew and encounters the merfolk, once again. This time the merfolk need his help. But is Jack going to give it?

He finds himself trapped suddenly in a cavern with his old crew from the Barnacle and Capt. Laura Smith from the Fleur de la Mort. Now he has to try to find a way out. But, the mermaids, from "Siren's Song," are the only ones who can help and they won't unless Jack helps them get back Poseidon's Trident from the evil Capt. Torrents. From then on, it's a fight to the death- Jack's and his crew or the merfolk who are under control of Capt. Torrents. Leave it to Jack to save the day.

"Bold New Horizons" is a fantastic end to the Jack Sparrow series, filled with action, danger and surprises at every corner! Although I am sad for it all to be over, my sons and I look forward to the next series "Legends Of the Brethren Court."

Can't get enough of Jack Sparrow!

Editorial Review:

Captain Jack Sparrow was once a teenager too! This series tells original stories about the scrapes the young pirate found himself in, and how he got out. Books 10-12 finish up a time-stopping story arc--literally! As Fitzwilliam's timepiece exhibits strange powers, Jack and his crew must make their way back to the present...and prevent their enemies from getting their hands on this dangerous technology!

Better Than the First 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I have to admit this book is far better than "The Tail of Emily Windsnap"; the first book in the series. If you read my review on the first book you would know how highly I thought of that book, making this a huge success. Again, the author is a master of making everything seem real and believable. Nothing is out of place or overly fantasized. The story sucks you in and won't spit you out until it is over. The book may not have some great moral, but it is entertaining and magical. If you have read the first book this is a sequel you won't wanna miss. If you haven't than it's a necessity that you do, although you have to come back to this one afterwards. It captures your imagination and is part mystery. This novel is filled with suspense and curiosity making unknowns. Not too predictable. Not at all scary. I would recommend this to anyone who likes mystery, fantasy, or adventure novels.

Editorial Review:

"High-action adventure, a plucky protagonist, and whimsical illustrations enliven this sea fantasy, which will be most thoroughly appreciated by series followers." — BOOKLIST

Picture an island set in a glittering blue sea, sparkling with white sand and palm trees, a secret place where humans and merfolk live together. To Emily Windsnap — half mermaid, half human — her new home is perfect. That is, until Emily ruins everything by waking a legendary sea monster known as the kraken from its hundred-year sleep. . . . An enchanting tale with a fabulous monster, engaging characters, and plenty of mermaid magic, this second fantasy about Emily Windsnap is filled with charm and warmth.

Exciting Story of Neverland 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

My daughter says Escape from the Carnivale is very exciting. She didn't want to put it down! She recommends highly! She loved getting to know the mermaids and Little Scallop. The Lost Boys are funny! She has moved on to Cave of the Dark Wind. It sounds exciting too!

Editorial Review:

Little Scallop should be happy. She's a princess of the Mollusk tribe, rulers of beautiful Mollusk Island. And she has two fun friends - Aqua and Surf - who just happen to be mermaids.

But Little Scallop is bored. Her warrior brothers are allowed to do exciting things, like spying on the pirates who live on the other side of the island. Little Scallop longs to have a real adventure. When Aqua and Surf invite her to go pearl-diving - even though she knows she shouldn't - she can't resist.

So late one night, she sneaks off into forbidden waters with Aqua and Surf. That's when the trouble starts - they run into a fierce storm and a strange ship sailed by men who would love to capture a mermaid. Soon, Little Scallop is caught up in the adventure she always wanted. The question is: can she and her friends get out of it?
