Focusing on building actual models with real bricks, The Unofficial LEGO Builder's Guide comes with complete instructions to build several cool models but also encourages you to use your imagination to create your own fantastic creations.

Inside, you'll learn:

  • Tricks for calculating and using scale (it's not as hard as you think)
  • The step-by-step plans to create a train station on the scale of LEGO people (a.k.a. "minifigs")
  • How to build spheres, jumbo-sized LEGO bricks, micro-scaled models, and a mini space shuttle
  • Tips for sorting and storing all of your LEGO pieces

The Unofficial LEGO Builder's Guide also includes the Brickopedia, a visual guide to nearly 300 of the most useful and reusable elements of the LEGO system, with historical notes, common uses, part numbers, and the year each piece first appeared in a LEGO set.

Teachers take note of this gem 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Looking for a new way to make Mark Twain come alive in your classroom? Help your students travel back in time by engaging in some of the wonderful projects in The American Boy's Handy Book by Daniel Carter Beard. Aside from illustrating some of Twain's work, Beard was an avid educator who also was a co-founder of the Boy Scouts of America. He wrote their first Boy Scout Handbook and was a lifelong advocate of making your own fun. This treasure of a book will suggest projects for your class which will help them understand the world of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Make kites in the shape of stars, turtles, shields and dragons. Build your own giant bubble machine or a Puss in Boots puppet show (script is included). Avoid the more violent blow guns and fighting kites but enjoy the simplicity and just plain fun of this book. Along the way, your students will have a new appreciation for Mark Twain's world and the boys he wrote about.

Editorial Review:

First published in 1882, this is a wealth of projects and games, with practical directions on how to make them, by one of the founders of the Boy Scouts of America. The ultimate pre-TV, anti-couch potato activity book, it answers the question, "What's there to do?"

Fun and educational 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Kids will love the brightly colored stickers, and parents will appreciate the educational value the book serves in teaching youngsters about the wild world of nature. A great children series with great educational values is Why Some Cats are Rascals ( Book 3) FIVE STARS!

Excellent Activity Book 5 out of 5 stars.

My daughter found another book from this series at her cousins house and really liked it, so I found this book on Amazon. I surprised my daughter with it when she began getting restless on a transcontinental flight. We easily passed 30-45 minutes. At two and half years old my daughter is under the minimum recommended age for this book. Some of the activities are too advanced for my daughter, but this did not prevent us from identifying the various animals. She also enjoyed finding the correct places for the stickers. I can highly recommend this sticker activity book as something to add to your rotation of things to do for a small child, especially for a long trip. The quality of the book and stickers is well worth the $3.47 on Amazon.

Editorial Review:

Ideal for ages 3 and up.
Popular-themed activity books packed with picture puzzles, mazes, word games and more.
Each book contains more than 50 stickers to find and place.

Perfect for budding fashion designers 4 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

My daughter liked everything about this product. We did have to make some adjustments about the light table usage because the batteries were burning out to fast, but we have a special corner of the play area just for this toy and for posting the completed designs. Good for concentration, fine motor skills and creativity. Just don't tell the kids

Perfect for a 9 year old 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I bought this for my 9 year old niece for christmas and she loved it! The light box is fantastic. Only drawback I could see with this product is that there seemed to be too few blank papers to use on the lightbox. I used copy paper and cut it into thirds to give my niece an ample supply of blank paper that would fit the lightbox. It was easy enough to do. I highly recommend this for any little girl interested in fashion design.

Editorial Review:

Including a unique light table that illuminates every outfit, this kit helps kids create a full fashion line using acetate wardrobe pieces. Add color, patterns, and texture voila! Is it ready-to-wear or couture? Casual or red-carpet? It's the designer's choice! Comes complete with the fashion-forward light table, more than 30 acetate wardrobe pieces, ten artist grade color pencils, and ten sheets of drawing paper.

2-6??? 3 out of 5 stars.

I'm an artist, but I have no idea what to do to introduce art to my little girl, which is why I got this book. But I've gone through the entire thing and I haven't found one thing that my 2.9 year old would grasp. I guess she could sit there while I cut and folded and painted faces, etc. But I'd really prefer to find something that would make more sense for her since these aren't the kind of projects I'm interested in for myself.

Editorial Review:

This book is suitable for ages 2 to 6 years. Press celebrates the magic and excitement of children's daily lives with over 80 craft experiences, including a paper friendship quilt, a hand print family tree, and pie tin wind chimes. Whimsical introductory poems encourage the creative spirit with every project. It includes over 150 illustrations.

Disappointing 2 out of 5 stars.

Very few Mandalas to color for $10.00. I bought this as a gift but I would be embarrassed to give it. Way overpriced!

Great Coloring Book For All Ages 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

As much as I really love this book, I'm afraid that I could only give it five stars, since that's all Amazon allows for it.

I had this book when I was a kid of about 8 or 9, and I'm finding just as much pleasure in coloring the pages in it now as I did back then.

When I was a kid, I never cared for coloring books featuring well-known cartoon characters, or characters from children's shows like Sesame Street, Blue's Clues, or Barney. To me, those kinds of coloring books came with restrictions on how to color. Bugs Bunny is always to be colored grey. Oscar was colored green. Barney was to be colored purple. You could color other items in the pictures any color you wanted. If the character was playing with a ball, as long as the ball had no distinct features identifying it as a tool used in a specific sport (like baseball or basketball), then you could color it any way you liked.

With this coloring book, and others like it, there are no rules. You can color it any way you feel comfortable coloring it. I remember spending countless hours coloring in it, while listening to an audio cassette tape recording of a movie I liked, that I recorded from the TV. Sometimes when I look at the pages in this book, I can picture myself back to when I was 8 or 9, sitting at the little desk we had in the dining room for me, listening to the cassette tape.

A lot of the mandalas are great for coloring again and again. I may order another copy or two, just to recolor some of the mandalas I've already done. I also have a program on my computer that allows me to draw my own mandalas, and sometimes I'll turn to this coloring book, as well as the other three in the series, for inspiration or ideas.

I highly suggest getting this coloring book for anyone who still likes to color, or if you have kids who are like I was, and really don't care for coloring books featuring cartoon characters. This book is really more of a challenge to the imagination than any coloring book featuring a specific set of characters. It's an easy, yet difficult book to color. The spaces in the mandalas are big enough for children to color, with a few smaller areas that might be hard for children, yet not so for adults. The real difficulty here is deciding which color to choose.

Editorial Review:

These original mandala designs by wholistic therapist Monique Mandali appeal to both children and adults. Mandalas have been traditionally used as a source of wisdom and meditation.

Really Good Craft Book 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I really like this book. From it I've been inspired to do the tie dye and the Royal (Icing) Sand Castle. Note to anyone trying the castle, be careful of your icing. I used Betty Crocker's Rich and Creamy and it was too soft, it didn't stick well. For the tie dye I did buy a kit and didn't follow Rosie's instructions, I stuck with the one's in the kit, which made the project a little longer. But it was helpful to see what the t-shirts looked like according to how you tied them. The pictures in the book are great. They really show you what the finished product will look like. I do think making the crafts are a little expensive. I'm starting from scratch so I basically have to buy everything for each project. I don't watch Rosie's show. I just chanced upon the book while browsing on Amazon and bought it because of the great reviews.
