I have recently became interested in sea glass after finding a few beautiful peices when I ordered this book. I was not dissappointed! This book is very informational and beautifully illustrated. I found a match for a peice I had found in the book, allowing me to date the peice.

I love this book and will keep in on my coffee table along with my display of my precious finds! It's a joy just to flip through and just look at the pictures.

"A Passion for Sea Glass" is beautifully photographed with great text from the contributing artisans. Terrific craft ideas and suggestions. Much more than a tabletop book and well worth the investment.

Editorial Review:

Some people's passion for sea glass goes beyond collecting--they use it to create something of beauty. Carole Lambert, author of Sea Glass Chronicles, gives us entree into the studios of those who do everything from gathering and amassing sea glass mulch for landscaping to designing stained-sea-glass windows. This volume will arouse a renewed sense of wonder in those who already possess a passion for sea glass and win legions of new sea-glass devotees.

Here is a book well worth it's affordable price tag. Cover to cover, 128 pages of ideas and information. Designed to be useful for both beginners and those interested in exploring some more challenging and varied techniques in the world of fused glass. Page after page of well photographed examples to guide the reader, and beautiful glass artwork to tantilize and inspire.

Chapters include basics like materials, tools, supplies, skills like straight and curved glass cutting, and basic information on slumping, draping, fusing, and polishing. The author covers mold preparation, polishing, sandblasting, etching, and drilling.

There is a useful troubleshooting guide for the more common things that go wrong with your fused glass work, and suggestions for fixing those when possible.

The projects included in the book are varied and visually interesting. They range from simple pate de verre or draping to more complex work like creating and using bars or making various types of melt fusings. All the projects are artistically beautiful, and most of them are also functional.

The directions and fusing schedules are clearly outlined and easy to understand.

Brenda Griffith is a talented artist who has taken her time, experience, and considerable thought to put out a well written book at an affordable price for both beginners and those who are looking to add to their fusing skills and knowledge.

At the retail price of $24.95, it is worth adding to your fusing library.

It covers all of the fundamentals, such as fusing, slumping and draping, as well as some intermediate and advanced techniques, including pot melting, inclusions, mold-making and more. Nineteen exquisite projects, arranged by skill level, range from home décor items, like a wall sconce and fountain, to sculpture, and even an amber glass pendant.

Just What I needed 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

The title says it all. I went from never having worked with stained glass to completing the first two projects in the book - and it was fun! Now, I'm working on my first original stained glass design. This book is great for anyone new to stained glass - the step by step instructions would probably be excrutiatingly slow to someone who already has a lot of experience, but they were exactly what I needed to get started! I also really liked the explanation of all the most common tools and equipment.

Editorial Review:

This highly detailed guide contains everything the beginner needs to know to make beautiful basic stained glass projects -- presented with lavish colour illustrations and precise instructions that eliminate the guesswork from each step-by-step activity. Expert techniques and tips for cutting and polishing glass, tracing patterns, soldering, and more are explained with the beginner in mind. Included is an indispensable section on tools and materials used to make each of the pieces -- from classic flat-panel creations to a Tiffany-style lamp. Other topics: setting up a good workspace, safety guidelines, and project variations.

Invaluable tips tell how to avoid unexpected and unwanted effects, and also how to create a range of different results and finishes. Beyond the basics, finally!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I really like this book! I have been making beads for over 12 years and have been looking for a book that has information for the intermediate to advanced beadmaker. This book fills the bill!! Lots of great information, excellent photos, good descriptions. The book describes a number of techniques that I have been curious about (like sandblasting!).
I wish there had been more detail on a couple of things, but overall, I would recommend this book to other intermediate beadmakers.
Thank you, Jeri, for putting this together! I love the book!

Editorial Review:

Glass beadmaking has exploded in popularity—and those artists who have successfully mastered the basics want more techniques to enhance their repertoire. Jeri Warhaftig, a respected and experienced teacher, offers intermediates her time-tested, workshop-based approach to expanding their beadmaking skills. In each superbly illustrated and illuminating chapter, she focuses on using current tools, new materials, and innovative methodology to produce a singular bead—with several variations for every one. The possibilities, from sandblasting to metal inclusions, are stupendous: Craft sculptural flower beads; create a lightweight, hollow seashell-shaped bead; and go for the “wow” factor with geode beads that enclose decorative elements within a layer of glass. Helpful tips are sprinkled throughout, and a gallery of additional work will inspire.

Excellent book, informative and creative. 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book has all kinds of information, from basic tools, materials and procedures used, to instructions for making your own light table to work on. Includes patterns from simpler plant stakes and candle holders, to really extravagant lawn sprinklers. Awesome book, good for beginners and the more experienced. Don't know why they chose that cover photo, it is nowhere near the best or prettiest project in the book.

The Stained Glass Garden: Projects & Patterns 5 out of 5 stars.

I bought this item for my mother, who is a stained glass enthusiast that put aside her craft when my brother and I were children (children and shards of glass don't mix very well, apparently). Recently, I've encouraged my mother to resume her interest. Since she is also interested in gardening, "The Stained Glass Garden: Projects & Patterns" was a perfect fit. Among the projects detailed in this book are lanterns, a bird feeder, and a sprinkler. The instructions are clear, and the projects are interesting. I would recommend this item for other stained glass enthusiasts!

Editorial Review:

Grow a glass garden—and beautify any space with the exquisite decorative items you’ve created. George W. Shannon and Pat Torlen, two master teachers and artists who run the On The Edge Glass Studio, offer an array of glorious patterns for stained glass flowers, butterflies, birds, birdfeeders, planters, lanterns, and mobiles. Using dozens of close-up photos, they teach all the basics of both copper foil and lead came construction, from materials and tools to how-to techniques.
