This book is a wonderful guide to get you on your way to becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. This is a wonderful career to have in the medical field. Helping people as a CNA is extremely rewarding.

Even if you're not looking to become a CNA, this book has excellent information for anyone who is in a caregiving situation. It has information ranging from infant care to elderly care.

I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to pursue a career in the healthcare field or anyone who has someone they take care of.

No complaints 5 out of 5 stars.

I got this for detailed reference since i wanted to refresh my memory on certain skills and other things, i've been working in an assisted living facility for a year now, and you can really forget some skills working in one of these places, anyway, i just got the book today and was reading over it, and it seems to have some very good info, much better than the book that was given to me when i was going to the CNA classes, it's easy to read and understand, but does not have the appearence of something that a child would read, like my other CNA textbook did, it also has multible choice questions at the end of each chapter with the answers in the back of the textbook, so this can also be used by the instructor, i have not watched the enclosed CD yet though, but i'm sure its worth a watch, all in all, the book is worth the forty bucks, even if you are not interested in being a CNA, the info in it can be useful.

Editorial Review:

This concise text is specifically targeted for shorter nursing assistant courses, and focuses on OBRA required content. This 2nd edition includes new and expanded coverage of work ethics, comfort, wound care and oxygen needs. It addresses current responsibilities of the nursing assistant in a concise, readable, highly visual format that appeals to learners of all levels. The clear, logical presentation of procedures with full-color photos and drawings makes it easy for students to learn and understand. Skills included in the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) are highlighted.

ASSISTING IN LONG-TERM CARE 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I am using this textbook for a CNA course. I looked it over before registering for the class and the textbook attracted me to the course. It is colorful, well-organized, and thorough. I was impressed with the range of topics covered and variety of ways material is presented and re-enforced. The study aides and headings are easy to use and it is easy to read. I would recommend this book to anyone who will be working with the elderly in a long-term care setting.

Editorial Review:

This comprehensive, user-friendly book provides the theoretical knowledge and skills content you need to successfully complete a nursing assistant certification exam. The book meets OBRA guidelines and prepares you to work in a variety of long-term care settings or sub-acute units in the hospital. A major goal of this resource is to help you develop an understanding of the principles of safe and effective care of residents in long-term care. Special emphasis is placed on residents' rights, nutrition and hydration, restorative care, resident mobility, and maintaining a safe environment. From Doody's Book Review "This book, written to meet the needs of persons who wish to become CNAs and work in long term care (LTC), provides core concepts and clearly explains the basic principles of nursing care of the elderly. Weighted Numerical Score: 100 - 5 Stars!"

very thick textbook 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Wow, if i would have gotten a textbook this thick when i was going to CNA classes, i would have been pissed since the class was only four weeks, that would have meant that i would have to cram all that info into my brain in such a short amount of time. anyway, its a good book containing actual photos, i skimmed through it a little and found that this could also be used for the instructor as well as the student, so anyway, this is a good book to have even after you get your certification,i also purchased the workbook, but have not looked it over yet.

Editorial Review:

This first hand report on the work of nurses and other caregivers in a nursing home is set powerfully in the context of wider political, economic, and cultural forces that shape and constrain the quality of care for America's elderly. Diamond demonstrates in a compelling way the price that business-as-usual policies extract from the elderly as well as those whose work it is to care for them.

In a society in which some two million people live in 16,000 nursing homes, with their numbers escalating daily, this thought-provoking work demands immediate and widespread attention.

"[An] unnerving portrait of what it's like to work and live in a nursing home. . . . By giving voice to so many unheard residents and workers Diamond has performed an important service for us all."—Diane Cole, New York Newsday

"With Making Gray Gold, Timothy Diamond describes the commodification of long-term care in the most vivid representation in a decade of round-the-clock institutional life. . . . A personal addition to the troublingly impersonal national debate over healthcare reform."—Madonna Harrington Meyer, Contemporary Sociology

An Excellent Review! 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This book really helped me review for things I did not get to practice in my clinicals (which I did get tested on, of course). The layout is neat and easy to follow. There are practice tests in the back with answers and explanations. I recommend this book for students to follow during their course as well as those who have to refresh the material.
