Old Friends 4 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

I first purchased this book about 15 years ago, Georgia use to do a show on my local PBS station and I had started to quilt with a church group. Time goes by, rotary cutters and mats all make sewing our little projects so much more enjoyable. I love her BIG designs that work up so nicely. Lots of room for creativity.

This is an excellent book..answers questions to many (very many) questions on home improvement. A great book for novice and expert alike (trust me, you're never to old to learn). basement, doors, ventilation, Oh, my...I liked it.

One note, this book, ISBN 1929049358 is a Paperback book, not Hardcover. Just as good, no...better.

Norm is my American Idol! 5 out of 5 stars.

Since purchasing and renovating a turn of the century farmhouse I have read everything I could get my hands on, including almost every back issue of TOH magazine. I could not put this book down until I finished it. I didn't even know what a joist was when I fell in love and decided to buy a house in the country. I learned so much by reading this book. Thanks Norm!

24 of 29 people found this review helpful.

This book is aptly named and is loaded with "Kids' Stuff". Projects include a cradle, toy chest, a block wagon, and a 1/16" scale model of the New Yankee Workshop, and more! I just got this book yesterday and will be getting started this weekend on the marble roll which I know my 2 year old will just Love! If you have a child or know one you want to make really happy get this book and get to work!

A nice collection 5 out of 5 stars.

This book presents a very nice collection of Norm Abram's kid-related projects, and the text and photos are a great help to actually building any of the projects. Having built the cradle project, though, I'd certainly recommend purchasing the set of plans that goes with each project . The plans are indespensible.

Editorial Review:

With his usual lucid directions, tool tips, color photographs, and how-to illustrations, Norm Abram shows just how easy it is to create durable, handcrafted furniture that kids will love. 178 photos, 10 in color.

Mainly for Contemporary/Modern Bathrooms 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

If you want contemporary/modern bathroom design, this is the book for you. There are a few traditional type bathrooms and a few claw foot tubs, but not a whole lot of "looks" for a traditional home. This book was helpful in showing various surfaces, some of the latest sprays and "pods", but I found myself flipping through each page trying to find photographs of bathrooms that would look nice in my traditional home. Unfortunately, there wasn't much here.

-If contemporary or modern is your style, you'll love this book and I'd give it a 4 1/2
-If you have a more traditional home, I give it a 3
-For the information regarding design ideas and thoughts, I give it a 4. The section on small baths was informative, but solutions would probably be quite costly, i.e. pivoting glass shower door, gridded teak panel shower tray slotted over sunken bath.

Overall, I give this book a 3 1/2 and recommend checking it out at the library before buying to determine if it fits your style.

Editorial Review:

World-famous and bestselling design expert Terence Conran provides a comprehensive guide to creating or revamping a bathroom, along with a discussion of this small room’s expanding role as the ultimate refuge from the stresses of everyday life. He offers a full range of options for planning, design, and decoration, along with plenty of inspiration and advice on how to integrate the many practical, decorative, structural, and technological elements needed to create a bathing sanctuary. Such crucial issues as waterproofing, heating, and lighting receive in-depth attention, and there’s also a detailed guide to fittings and fixtures, all well-illustrated. Large and lush photographs throughout featuring everything from bathroom pods to lavish spas will feed the home decorator’s imagination.

The only book of its kind, it helps to have a chem degree! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This is an excellent book, I recommend it to anyone who wishes to prepare wine from scratch. The book is written for the reader with knowledge of basic science concepts, especially a chemistry degree.

Whether planting one vine or one thousand, read this book! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Jeff Cox does what so few writers can do; he makes viticulture so interesting that you won't want to put this book down. That's saying a lot!

The whole book is a masterful handbook for the home or small commercial grower. From selecting the vines and a growing site to planting, growing, pruning, and harvesting to making wine, Cox literally packs the pages with useful information, tables and how-to illustrations. Even his appendix on grape pests and their control is written as a trouble-shooting guide based on symptoms rather than cause. This is both refreshing and useful.

If you can only buy one book on the subject, this is the one to buy.

The complete guide to growing grapes & making your own wine. 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

With enthusiasm and clarity, the author leads his readers, from the amateur to the accomplished winemaker, in his or her quest for flawless grapes and extraordinary wine. The process is not as daunting as it may seem. What matters most is finding the grape that gives wine you like and which thrives and ripens (consistently) in your climate. The author goes on to describe vineyard siting, soil preparation, culture, pruning, trellising, and pest control.

The second half of the book thoroughly describes the wine-making process: from crushing the grapes and pressing, to primary and secondary fermentations, racking, bottling, corking, cellaring, and evaluating the finished product.

This book will appeal to the person with a serious desire to grow grapes and make wine, the aspiring wine-making entrepreneur, the home gardener interested in the culture of grapes, the wine connoisseur, and the casual hobbyist. No matter what level of invlovement you want to have in the wine-making process, "From Vines to Wines" will satisfy your needs and curiosity.

Very Inspirational! 4 out of 5 stars.
14 of 14 people found this review helpful.

This is a terrific book to have on hand if one is looking for style and decorating ideas. There's not much in the way of actual how-to's, but a wonderful source to page through for all of those idea-starters. A surprising variety of decor and styles are represented.

Children's dream rooms... 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

THESE are what I dream of children's rooms looking like! This is not really a how-to book, but more of an idea book...to be honest, I don't even think I read it, but spent a couple hours poring over the beautiful pictures to get ideas for my 2-year old daughter's new "big girl" room. There are sections on nurseries, girls' and boys' rooms, and also a few do-it-yourself decorations for good measure. If you enjoy a look that is nostalgic, colorful, and slightly cluttery, then you will love this book!

Editorial Review:

Mary Engelbreit, Barbara Elliott Martin, and Charlotte Lyons collaborate on this fourth installment of the hugely successful Home Companion series. Designed to help parents create spaces that are as carefree and fun as the children who occupy them, Mary Engelbreit's Children's Companion provides a smorgasbord of ideas drawn from real kids' rooms. Full color.
