Really informative book, great job! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book will help you cut the stress of downsizing your life or settling an estate in half or more with its no-nonsense, clearly defined step-by-step suggestions for organizing, evaluating and dispensing property. Legal, tax and other tips highlighted throughout, as well as useful anecdotes of mistakes made and how to avoid them. Learn how, when and where to sell everything, and explore options for what's left. (Who knew you could sell natural fiber to scrapyards?)

I love that he provides questions to qualify the many professionals you may need to hire to ensure that they're working for you. Also his advice on how to navigate the sea of outstretched hands that suddenly appear is most helpful, especially for those who tend to cave to guilt. Estate sales, auctions, swap meets, consignment shops, garage sales and much more are discussed by an obviously discerning insider.

I never saw Inspector Collector on HGTV, so am not familiar with Rinker beyond this book, but I am from the PA Dutch country near where he's located and do appreciate getting what I pay for. I would recommend Sell, Keep or Toss to anyone who whether by choice or circumstance is facing a transition that requires unloading personal property.

Editorial Review:

With practical, down-to-earth advice, Rinker shows how to determine what to Sell, Keep or Toss, and guides you through the intricacies of how to do it, including how to:

• Pass treasured mementos to future generations
• Recognize valuable collections
• Find reputable appraisers and auctioneers
• Get a tax benefit from donating unwanted items
• Maximize the profit on items sold

A fun, informative guide 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Author Harry Rinker has built his reputation as the Collector Inspector who helps collectors learn what is value and what is not: now hi how to think like a collector furthers the education, going beyond the usual price guide to tell amateurs how to learn what WILL become collectible in the future, how to judge an item's value, and how to collect today's bargains with their collectible future potential in mind. Rinker's forty-plus years of collecting and assessing values results in a large knowledge base and a fun take on the hobby of collecting which guides novices through the confusing world of the collector's mind. A fun, informative guide.

Tells it like it is... 4 out of 5 stars.

...or at least like he thinks it is. Harry Rinker doesn't hold punches and looks at the collectibles field without the prerequisite rose-colored glasses. He can be abrasive and hard, but he is often hardest on himself. He could easily be dismissed as a loving curmudgeon, but that would not do his book justice. His suggestions are no nonsense, but right on the mark. He even provides some common sense etiquette for collectors (who us?) While this book may seem perfect for the beginning collector, there are some true gems for those of us who've been around the block. He takes no crap and has no patience and I love his book so much the better for it.

This book takes us through an entertaining tour of our past by showing us the domes found on the side of the highways.. Fantastic pictures of some more common and a few rare domes spark memories of hot summers and family excursions. Also contained are how domes are made, and what to do if you have a broken dome (don't throw it out!!) If you love these little plastic wonders, or just want a look at a more unusual collectible, check out this book.

Interesting for some, useless for others 2 out of 5 stars.
61 of 62 people found this review helpful.

I have read several books pertaining to flatware, and many of them have a few strengths, and more weaknesses. This book does not break that trend.

The best feature in this book is that the measurements of many flatware pieces are listed. The introductory section is also informative for those not familiar with flatware. Histories of today's manufacturers are also comprehensive.

However, the book is so poorly organized that it makes for a difficult read, and very difficult to use as a reference book.

Also, the photographs are so small, you will need a magnifying glass to distinguish between even barely similar patterns. There are much better books on silverware available.

To identify etching patterns - Go somewhere else! 1 out of 5 stars.
21 of 21 people found this review helpful.

The photographs of the etching patterns in this book are deporable. I know that taking photos of clear glass to display the etching pattern is not the easiest thing to do - I do it on Ebay all the time - but the attempt failed miserably here. I call it a waste of my money.

Editorial Review:

Roy Rogers may have been Republic's "King of the Cowboys," but he was lesser nobility when it came to licensed merchandise. The "King of the Cowboy Merchandisers" was Hopalong Cassidy. In the three and one-half year period beginning in late 1949 and ending after the 1952 Christmas season Hoppy rode so far ahead of the pack that his competition had to eat his dust. By early 1950s over a hundred manufacturers were producing Hopalong Cassidy licensed products. No matter where one turned, there was Hoppy. It was a Hopalong Cassidy era. Now Hoppy has found renewed interest among collectors. The support is multi-layered. Prices across the board are at record levels. Common pieces have doubled or tripled in value over the past five years. Scarcer pieces have risen ten times or more. This comprehensive new book by one America's foremost authorities on antiques in general, and Hoppy in particular, will introduce you to the various collecting categories within the wonderful world of Hoppy collectibles and allow you to cast your cares aside while leisurely strolling down nostalgia lane. Packed with useful information, it also has beautiful color photographs of most of the merchandise bearing the Hopalong Cassidy name. If you are old enough to have grown up with Hoppy, you will think "I owned one of those" or "I remember one of those." If you are not, you will be moved to say - "Wow! That's neat. I won't mind owning one."

The best! 5 out of 5 stars.
14 of 14 people found this review helpful.

I have a yearly garage sale. I am a librarian. Therefore, I've read or skimmed many, many books on the subject. I found myself ordering this one again and again from other libraries. Then, I realized it was out of print. Panic! What if the other libraries decided the condition was so bad they had to get rid of it. So, I bought a used copy through Amazon. It's a great manual for having a garage sale, but what makes it invaluable is the price guide. When I have no idea what to price something (like the things I have to ask my husband what they are?), I look here for guidelines. In my opinion, it is the best garage sale book around.
