Not really sure how to review this, but it is necessary for those of us who want to stay compliant and up to date with building regulations. It isn't necessarily easy to read, but like I said, it is what it is. :)

My son needed this for one of his college architecture classes. This was the cheapest site and had really fast shipment.

Can a residential Architect live without this book? 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This Christmas we gave this book to our son, at his suggestion. He is a residential Architect working in Kansas City. I asked him what he thought about the book, after having time to review it. His response was, "Tell them its irritatingly indispensable."

Amazon is always outstanding in the supply and delivery!

Everything you need to build a garage (or house)! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

If you are acting as a contractor on your home or garage project, then this book is invaluable to make sure that the subs are building to code or making sure that you are building to code. As an retired contractor and engineer, I've come to realize over time that codes actually do have a purpose in life besides making the building process a pain. The old farm house I bought probably wasn't built to code and it shows. A lot of farmers around here have to get up on their out-building and shovel snow because every year one or two more of their buildings collapse.

The book is well organize by project phase so things are easy to find--cement pad, walls, floors, roof, etc.

It is what it is. 2 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

This "international plumbing code," is a poor substitute for your state or local municipality's plumbing code.

Most states have created their own version of plumbing code with many, major municipalities adding restrictions at local levels.

In a perfect world, "the" plumbing code would rigorously define a system of best practices - this "International," and most state's plumbing codes reflect insurance company interests in establishing a safe and reasonably, low level of liability.

The "code" is written by attorney's in cooperation with plumbers, builders, supplier's of materials and various, other, self interest groups.

It is vague, possesses no visual representations, poorly indexed, unreferenced and in many cases a hinderance to the adoption of new materials and design.

It makes more sense to purchase a copy of your state or local municipality's plumbing code. In most cases, the local codes are available to everyone and are inexpensive. Periodic updates are usually available for a modest fee. The sad part is that most local codes also explain very little and are poor substitutes for books oriented towards plumbing system, design or repairs.

Over the years I have witnessed countless, unworkable "do it yourself" implementations. In fact - many professionally plumbed, jobs also prove to be less than perfect. If you are planning a slab addition - do yourself a favor - and spend a few bucks on a mechanical engineer who will be more than happy to school you on the do's and don'ts. I admit that it looks simple - but don't be fooled. Plumbing is a hell of a lot more difficult than it may seem.

Because there is no popular movement to make the code "more accessible -" we are stuck with it.

It is what it is!

Outdated Material 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is mostly general information. Many of the figures do not identify the wires e.g. hot, neutral, ground. The section on Grounding is many years out of date, and would present an electrical hazard if followed. Most modern homes nowadays use PVC piping thus rendering all this advice on this page useless and dangerous for the layman. Because plumbers use nonconductive material to make connection watertight, using pipes for electrical ground is outright dangerous. Do not use this book because some advice is good, but some is not. Not knowing what advice is the good one may put your life in danger.

A Must Have 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Excellent knowledge base for the DIY and pro. This series of books will show you everything you need to know to do it right the first time and pass those crucial inspections.

Editorial Review:

This volume picks up where the original Code Check leaves off and expands on the electrical code section. Code Check Electrical clarifies the principles behind the electrical codes to ensure safety and prevent unnecessary violations. It also explains why electrical codes call for certain specifications.

Codes are Fun! 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

Could studying building codes actually be fun? Much to my surprise, when you combine this book with the companion study guide workbook it is. The author presents the information on the codes clearly and in logical order. I am studying for my NCIDQ exam and was really nervous about the "codes questions" until I got this book.

Excellent reference guide for IBC code 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I am a registered architect, and purchased this book for the purpose of studying for the NCIDQ interior design licensing exam. I had no idea how clearly, simply, and comprehensively it would cover the IBC code (and some others). I'm sure it will be an asset for my NCIDQ preparation, but even more so, I have been able to reference it for my architecture practice.

GREAT BOOK!

Editorial Review:

Three primary model building codes exist in the United States to regulate the construction, alteration, and maintenance of structures. All designers must use these building codes in creating and implementing their designs in residential and commercial buildings. This handbook unravels architectural codes for the interior designer, using a clear, accessible approach. It interprets all codes and explains how they should be incorporated into designs. Sample tables and charts from the code books are included, as well as additional illustrations.

The newest edition of the IBC has finally come up with an easy-to-read version that allows users to easily access information in a familiar format but also allows quick reference and notes the deletion of important paragraphs and sections. I would highly recommend this book for all those in the construction industry. This book is the future of our profession...
