I would read this book even if I didn't have a garden! It is more than informative. I feel like I am listening to a favorite uncle telling stories of the good ol" days and how things were done simply and effectively. I love this book and highly recommend it. -Mary

I purchased this book for my husband after he saw this on PBS. He loves taking care of our lawn so this was right up his alley. We've had the book a year and we constantly get compliments on our lawn from all of our neighbors or guests we have over.

There are a lot of neat tips and tricks you can try using household items like dish soap, spices, baking soda, etc. I forget all of the things, but my husband is always using up something or other of mine for our lawn now. Some of the formulas definitely work for us, others I'm not as sure. But either way, my husband is having a ball trying all of these "recipes".

I'd recommend this book to someone looking to improve their lawn and who also likes to work on their lawn and try new things for it. Most of the tips are inexpensive and not too much time or trouble.

Boy, do I LOVE this book! I'm just a casual gardener, but boy, if you have nasty soil, need help getting your lawn started, garden started, problem with trees and plants, grab this book. I can tell you for a fact that that tonic Jerry has in this book for trees is just tremendous! Who would think that putting whiskey, beer, peroxide and jello on your trees would just make them grow huge in no time at all. My trees just love this stuff and I'm just thrilled with the results of all the recipes I've tried in this book. Plus, if you have problems with any plants you currently have, it's probably addressed in this book. Baker is the country's #1 gardener and this book shows why. I'm very thankful that I purchased it and got it for a great price on amazon.com. If you have roses and have trouble, this book is for you. He even tells you how to get rid of every bug imaginable. Also, if you're having trouble with your lawn, the remedy is in this book. Plus, Baker tells you how to select the proper plants for your area, and even outlines designs for you to have a nicely planted yard. He recommends what trees to plant as well and how they should be planted to take root quickly. He gives recipes for many tonics to get them off to a great start. Again, I can't emphasize how much this book has done for my garden. Now I'm attacking my clay soil and following Baker's advice. My yard is the best in the neighborhood!

This book offers lots of helpful tips for the beginning gardener. The author includes many practical ideas for everything from planning and preparing the soil to dealing with common problems. The book also includes a number of his "famous" recipes for a variety of uses in your garden.

This book, along with the other books was very informative. It answered all my questions before I started my planting. Plus, being able to use products you have at home to take care of a problem, is a definite plus.

I have thoroughly enjoyed going through this book. I have not been able to try everything, but what I have tried works. The book is written so that it is easy to follow. There are hundreds and hundreds of "recipes" and tips which can be used to remedy any number of situations around the house/yard/garden. The best thing is that most of the ingredients were already in my kitchen cabinet - at least for the things that I've wanted to try so far. I also appreciate that this book provides alternative methods to the use of hazardous chemicals/pesticides. Additionally, this book provides a wonderful offering of recipes for self-care (pampering) such as lotions and tonics, and hair and skin care. Even if you've never even THOUGHT about making your own "stuff," this book will introduce you to any number of concoctions that you can have fun experimenting with. I highly recommend this book... have fun seeing what works for you!

If you want to have the best "buds" on the block , I "highly" recommend this gem of a book.

Jerry baker is a master of garden secrets. And these are secrets that you will not find anywhere else.

I bought this book through the mail and I wont tell you how much I spent on it. It really does have some interesting facts. A lot of repetitive ideas that can be confusing some times. Some of the tonics and things that I tried made my garden worse. In fact, it burnt some of my plants to the ground! Some of his recipes are confusing. Such as: he recommeds everything in this 20 gallon hose end sprayer. I went to many garden centers and everyone laughed at me. Nobody carries anything that large. that is for a garden the size of Texas! Who are these people that the tonics worked for? Come to my house and help me, then.

Who would have thought that used coffee grounds would be useful in keeping some plants healthy?!? I love the ideas in this book! We have two small children who often run around barefoot in the yard, and it's important that I can keep my yard healthy and beautiful while not using chemicals. Love the ideas in this book!!
