Great exam prep book 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book in preparation for the exam (which I did pass), and found it to be an excellent resource.
A month ago, I knew very little about Sharepoint; I have been a software developer for years, and, over those years, have had to learn many systems and environments. This book, combined with the online learning packages from MS, prepared me quite well for this exam.
I agree with B. Abler: I found the practice exams and the flash cards to be MUCH harder than the actual exam. I had scheduled the exam before I had finished the book and online tutorials; I was extremely anxious that I was not going to do well on the actual exam, based on my performance on the practice tests.
I highly recommend this book to anyone planning to take the 70-630 exam.

Editorial Review:

The era of seemingly unlimited growth in processor performance is over: single chip architectures can no longer overcome the performance limitations imposed by the power they consume and the heat they generate. Today, Intel and other semiconductor firms are abandoning the single fast processor model in favor of multi-core microprocessors--chips that combine two or more processors in a single package. In the fourth edition of Computer Architecture, the authors focus on this historic shift, increasing their coverage of multiprocessors and exploring the most effective ways of achieving parallelism as the key to unlocking the power of multiple processor architectures. Additionally, the new edition has expanded and updated coverage of design topics beyond processor performance, including power, reliability, availability, and dependability.

ok but not great 3 out of 5 stars.
8 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This book contains quite some materials from the book you can also find them in Apple's documentations. It also has quite some details on Joe Hewitt's iUI framework. But generally speaking, it lacks more detailed explanation (on CSS, AJAX, JavaScript). Here's the dilema: if you are an experienced CSS and JavaScript developer, you will find it lacking the depth. It barely scratches the surface of what real AJAX-powered iPhone applications can do. If you are somewhat a newbie developer, you will need more explanation on the subject. Unfortunately, this book falls in-between the above 2 scenarios.

After all, this is the first and only book on iPhone programming, it's a nice start for anyone that's interested.

Editorial Review:

The Safari-exclusive applications for iPhone and iPod touch assemble various elements, and this book shows you how to integrate these elements with key design concepts and principles in order to develop a highly usable interface for the touch screen. You’ll learn to use existing open-source libraries in your code, imitate the overall look and feel of built-in Apple applications, and migrate existing Web 2.0 apps and sites to this new mobile platform. By the end of the book, you’ll feel untouchable as you create a custom mobile application from scratch.

Editorial Review:

There's a great deal of excitement surrounding the use of Linux in embedded systems -- for everything from cell phones to car ABS systems and water-filtration plants -- but not a lot of practical information. Building Embedded Linux Systems offers an in-depth, hard-core guide to putting together embedded systems based on Linux.

Updated for the latest version of the Linux kernel, this new edition gives you the basics of building embedded Linux systems, along with the configuration, setup, and use of more than 40 different open source and free software packages in common use. The book also looks at the strengths and weaknesses of using Linux in an embedded system, plus a discussion of licensing issues, and an introduction to real-time, with a discussion of real-time options for Linux.

This indispensable book features arcane and previously undocumented procedures for:
  • Building your own GNU development toolchain
  • Using an efficient embedded development framework
  • Selecting, configuring, building, and installing a target-specific kernel
  • Creating a complete target root filesystem
  • Setting up, manipulating, and using solid-state storage devices
  • Installing and configuring a bootloader for the target
  • Cross-compiling a slew of utilities and packages
  • Debugging your embedded system using a plethora of tools and techniques
  • Using the uClibc, BusyBox, U-Boot, OpenSSH, thttpd, tftp, strace, and gdb packages

By presenting how to build the operating system components from pristine sources and how to find more documentation or help, Building Embedded Linux Systems greatly simplifies the task of keeping complete control over your embedded operating system.

Editorial Review:

Like all Dummies books, Upgrading & Fixing PCs for Dummies, Third Edition, shows you what you absolutely need to know and little more--but in very clear language. Oriented toward casual users who want to solve specific problems, the book pays attention to such troubles as parity error messages and out-of-memory warnings.

Upgrading & Fixing PCs for Dummies promotes the ideas that you shouldn't fix things that aren't broken and that you should apply the simplest possible solutions to the broken things. The guide includes excellent coverage of the hardware-management features in Windows 95.

This book's problem-oriented approach yields sections about common hardware-related problems, such as, "My printer puts out only junk characters!" and "How do I install a new hard drive?" Cartoon-like sequential diagrams outline physical procedures, such as installing and removing SIMMs. Similar drawings help you find key parts of your computer, such as the PCI slots and the video port.

Overall, Upgrading & Fixing PCs for Dummies, Third Edition, does what all the Dummies books do--it clearly explains how to solve certain problems. If your particular troubles happen to fall outside of what's covered here, you'll need to consult a geekier reference book.

great book! 5 out of 5 stars.
18 of 19 people found this review helpful.

I was amazed at how easy it is to read this book. Have no experience with 2003, or just minimal at most, and found this book at the library. Ordering my own, because I have read the majority of it, in 2 days. I wish the author had written more beginners guides for other current OS, and apps. Wish you had one for Citrix, and maybe Linux, and how about a Unix, etc!!! This is definately a great book to have for anyone that needs to learn the operations of 2003.

Worth its money 5 out of 5 stars.
