Assumes too much 2 out of 5 stars.
9 of 11 people found this review helpful.

I'm no dummy but sometimes felt like one reading this book. The name suggests that it is for someone with no experience setting up a website. That's me. But it sometimes assumes more knowlege than I have. There is a difference between ignorance and stupidity. I'm ignorant of many things - but capable of learning. Perhaps more practical examples would have helped. As a beginners book, there were too many gaps that left me confused, too much use of terminology I didn't know -and should not have been expected to know at various points. This isn't, by any means a bad book. Just not for dummies.

Ham Radio for Dummies 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Ham Radio for Dummies is an excellent choice as a starting point for the person interested in ham radio. It covers just about any ham radio activity possible and explains them in just enough technical language to be understood. The engineering is left out!! Everything from antennas to equipment purchases is covered. I have been a ham since 1968, and I still found this book of interest. I learned quite a bit about the newer digital modes being used on the air.

I found myself suddenly needing to use Access for analysis that was way too big to do in Excel (comparing data sets from 3 sources with ~800K records each). I really knew nothing about Access. Between this book and the internet I have become very proficient in Access. I practically slept with the book for a week. I now find I don't need it and have lent it to a co-worker.

Great for learning/or a reference for beginner to intermediate! 5 out of 5 stars.

This has been very helpful. If you are a beginner to intermediate at Excel formulas this will be a very good book for you. I got it for work and have been able to get moving rapidly with more complex worksheets.

Excel Formula and Functions book 3 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book does not give me the simple functions in a readable way like most of the books I have had from the "Dummies" group. I probably did myself in, however, by not understanding it better. I once had Excel for Dummies and it was a wonderful book and I may just have to order that. I used to work with Excel a lot and I inentionally forgot it when I retired. I am working with the City of Ukiah in a volunteer position tha trequires that i make up a couple of spread sheets and I need to re-train myself with Excel. Chas

Editorial Review:

  • Targets beginning to intermediate Excel users seeking real-world examples of how they can use Excel's powerful built-in functions
  • Shows readers how to use Excel functions in formulas to help them decide between buying and leasing a car, calculate mortgage costs, compute grades, evaluate investment performance, figure college expenses, and more
  • Gives explanations and examples of real-world situations
  • Provides an abbreviated discussion of an additional 200 functions
  • Excel commands nearly 90 percent of the market for spreadsheet applications; although this book is written for Excel 2003, the functions described are in earlier versions as well
