Editorial Review:

Used by millions worldwide, FileMaker Pro is an award-winning database program for managing people, projects, images, assets, and other information. It's easy to use and totally customizable--so long as you know what you're doing. But FileMaker Pro doesn't come with a printed manual, so FileMaker Pro: The Missing Manual is the authoritative, jargon-free book that should have been in the box.

FileMaker Pro: The Missing Manual approaches FileMaker the way FileMaker approaches you: it's user-friendly and seemingly straightforward enough, but it offers plenty of substance worthy of deeper exploration. Packed with practical information as well as countless expert tips and invaluable guidance, it's an in-depth guide to designing and building useful databases with the powerful and pliable FileMaker Pro.

Covering FileMaker for both Windows and Macintosh, FileMaker Pro: The Missing Manual is ideal for small business users, home users, school teachers, developers--anyone who wants to organize information efficiently and effectively. Whether you want to run a business, publish a shopping cart on the Web, plan a wedding, manage a student information system at your school, or program databases for clients, this book delivers.

Author Geoff Coffey has many years of experience using FileMaker Pro (he was, in fact, an early beta tester for the product). Author Susan Prosser is a FileMaker Certified Developer who trains other developers. Together, Coffey and Prosser show you how to:

  • Get FileMaker up and running quickly and smoothly
  • Import and organize information with ease
  • Design relational databases that are simple to use, yet powerful
  • Take advantage of FileMaker Pro calculation capabilities
  • Automate processes with scripting
  • Customize FileMaker Pro to your needs and preferences
  • Share information with other people (coworkers, clients, and customers) and other programs
  • Understand and select the best security options

What could easily come across as dry and intimidating--things like relational theory, calculations, and scripting--are presented in a way that is interesting and intuitive to mainstream users. In no time, you'll be working more productively and efficiently using FileMaker Pro.

This book is for the professional financial manager, accountant, or bookkeeper who needs to learn the basics of SAP R/3 FI quickly, without wading through a morass of technical jargon. Don't buy this book 1 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

I found this 500-page book completely useless. The book doesn't have any (!) illustrations, it's plain text only, and it basically rephrases standard SAP OnLine Help. I found the standard SAP FI/CO Online Help more readable than this book ...

Waste of Ink! 1 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

This book is pretty useless and gives you just enough information to really screw things up.

Great for the person needing process knowledge of FI or CO 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I have ordered/read 6 books on the FI and CO modules in the last two weeks. My experience is that this book is the most detailed and beneficial of all. For someone who is looking to understand the process side of these SAP modules I would strongly recommend this book. If you are looking to learn more about the config, BUY A CONFIG book, not this one. The negative reviews seem to be related to the fact that people don't understand what this book is trying to accomplish (process understanding). If you have a medium understanding of SAP R/3 and a limited to medium knowledge base of accounting (internal and external) concepts, this book is a winner.

very exiting to read and get a deep knowledge about control 3 out of 5 stars.

Save your money, read on-line help or ASAP CD's 3 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

All of the information is available on-line either in "Help" or SAP's ASAP discs. Does a reasonable job of condesing down to 180+ pages. Targeted towards the first time SAP user NOT experienced users/consultants.

Good book for beginners 5 out of 5 stars.

It is my first book on SAP R/3, it was really helpfull during my college clases.

Editorial Review:

Before use, standard ERP systems such as SAP R/3 need to be customized to meet the concrete requirements of the individual enterprise. This book provides an overview of the process models, methods, and tools offered by SAP and its partners to support this complex and time-consuming process. It begins by characterizing the foundations of the latest ERP systems from both a conceptual and technical viewpoint, whereby the most important components and functions of SAP R/3 are described. The main part of the book then goes on to present the current methods and tools for the R/3 implementation based on newer process models (roadmaps).

Editorial Review:

Frankness is a quality permeating the pages of Implementing SAP R/3: How to Introduce a Large System into a Large Organization. Mining nearly three decades worth of combined consulting experience, authors Bancroft, Seip, and Sprengel provide incisive and brutally honest insight into what it means to overhaul both business and computing practices with SAP R/3. The book focuses more on business and process reengineering than configurations or programming. Implementing SAP R/3 does manage to provide a balanced view of the technological components of the R/3 system. The authors take pains to explain what types of businesses it is best suited for, its failures and shortcomings, as well as its triumphs.

The explanation of R/3 that kick starts this book is highly approachable, detailing the philosophical and technical underpinnings of this system. The other three loosely constructed sections deal almost exclusively with the complexity of an R/3 implementation. Throughout these portions, the authors emphasize the importance of identifying and establishing project goals, a point liberally illustrated by various case studies. Additionally, a terrific glossary is tucked away in the final pages, as are four appendices. These appendices cover data-modeling and relational-database concepts, content and structure of the SAP data dictionary, and the development of Advanced Business Application Programming/4GL (ABAP4). --Sarah L. Roberts-Witt

awesome deal 5 out of 5 stars.

this is a neat deal! I realized that Amazon's price works to about half that of Border's for this bundle.. The only downside is that the quicken book might be of no use to someone who does not use it (like me). But, hey if you get it for free, who's complaining!

This is a very good and informative book 5 out of 5 stars.
