This book is very good to get understanding of SAP SD structure. Book arrived before it was scheduled to arrive. So I am really happy with in time delivery and quality of the product.

Best one for Introduction 2 out of 5 stars.

This is the best book to have the glimpse of SD, in some cases detailed too. But once you are into SD, there is hardly any thing new that you can know from this book.
The author presents the concepts in a clear crispy way so that one can understand easily with less Business background.

I suggest this book if you want to start learning a topic but not to master it.

I can rate it 5 * for an SD Novice but a single * for whom who knew the concepts.

Want to understand SAP? Read this book! 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

If you want to understand what SAP's R/3-system really does, this book offers you the best way to get a grip on it. By mapping the system's transactions to the underlying business processes you can easily follow and understand the core functions of the model company. The EPC-methodology provides a perfect framework for describing processes in such a way that the user can understand the different threads as well as the guys who implemented the system. Reading this book I realized for the first time how I can benefit from the use of SAP in my company.

BTW: The book has more than 840 pages, not 448 as mentioned in the book information!

Top SAP book to understand processes 5 out of 5 stars.

I'm a FI/CO consulant with 6+ years experiences, after reading the book I find there are still some areas and key points that I just ignored or left uncertain in the past, the authors Gerhard Keller and Thomas Teufel present their knowledge and ideas in a very structured and comprehensive way.

Although process mostly keeps the same even with R/3 upgrading, there would still have some big changes between version 3.0 which this book refers to and the version 4.X. And I really hope this book could have second edition and explore more on the MTO process instead of only 30 pages in the last chapter.

This is really the best SAP book I've read!

An essential guide to implementing business models into SAP's R/3 System. Information systems managers and information technology professionals will benefit from: Specific examples from leading companies; IPP based on the building block principle.

Editorial Review:

For those interested in redefining the way in which their business does its business, SAP R/3 Business Blueprint: Understanding the Business Process Reference Model is worth a perusal. Authors Curran and Keller define their central idea--business engineering--as a method by which information technology is used to design and reengineer business processes, such as sales and distribution, instead of simply automating them. And as is clear from the title, this concept is explored almost exclusively within the context of SAP R/3.

The book is broken down into four sections: "Business Engineering," "Process Engineering," "Architecture," and "Framework & Tools." These segments follow a sliding scale that goes from MBA esoterica to practical application to behind-the-scenes implementation. The first section is dedicated to such things as mapping out global goals and identifying the organization processes that need to be reengineered. Next, the authors get more fundamental, looking at ways in which SAP R/3 can enable a retooling of existing practice, illustrating this thought via case studies. Lastly, the book examines the details of an R/3 system and the tools in the R/3 arsenal. A terrific discipline-spanning volume, SAP R/3 Business Blueprint's one shortcoming is that it never addresses a world in which SAP R/3 might not be the ultimate answer to an organization's efficiency problems. But perhaps it wasn't meant to. --Sarah L. Roberts-Witt

Too Little - Too Late 2 out of 5 stars.
13 of 14 people found this review helpful.

As a BW consultant, I found the content to be untimely (mostly based on version 1.2B) and incomplete. I purchased this book when it first came out hoping for a resource that was more comprehensive and insightful. What I found was what appeared to be a collection of disconnected "whitepapers". In short, the need for a comprehensive 'How-to' guide to BW remains unfulfilled.

Decent overview, but confusing and not focused 3 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Overall this is a decent introduction to SAP Business Warehouse. However, one of the biggest flaws of the book is that trys to overview two different versions. It would be much better if it simply stuck with reviewing against one version of SAP BW (preferably the most recent). It makes some of the concepts and movement through the BW interface very confusing because of the way it switchs back and forth between the two versions.

The content on the accompanying CD is really useless. Nothing of any good informative nature. The best way to read the book is to skim through the first dozen chapters to get a feel for the environment, and then read the last chapters in depth for a good understanding of how to model in SAP BW.

Editorial Review:

Business Information Warehouse is the core information hub of all modules in SAP. This book shows you how to implement a data warehouse that can support reporting and analysis needs across diverse organizations and business functions. The author, Naeem Hashmi, was a member of the BW development team at SAP and covers just what you need to know to get to the core of the system and to the top of your field.

A step in the right direction. 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

This book is somewhat equivalent to the WebObjects Development 1 course offered by Apple. It might be for WebObjects 4.5, but everything in the book can be done in 5.0 without any large hassles (be sure to note that NSGregorianDate has been replaced by NSTimestamp). I haven't seen the "WebObjects5 for Java" book, however if you are wanting to learn WebObjects and looking for a book to set you on your way, this book will be a definite help. I suggest you read Apple's "WebObjects for HTML" PDF, then this book, then look at the old "EnterpriseObjects Framework Development Guide" PDF (listed under WO4.5 in Documentation on Apple's website) to get a clear view of what you are doing with regards to development with WebObjects.

I'm hoping the author will make a sequel to this book which covers most of what is learned in Apple's WebObjects Development II course. WebObjects has always been the best web development tool out there, but has lacked adequate documentation; with books like this, it is possible for more than just hardcore NeXTers to appreciate the power of WO.

Editorial Review:

WebObjects Web Application Construction Kit will lead the reader through the sequential steps of writing a project in WebObjects. Apple Computer's WebObjects is a graphical Web development suite for the creation of Dynamic, web-based applications. WebObjects enables developers to generate rich Java client interfaces with the code-free "Direct to Web" feature. The "Direct to Java Client" technology uses wizards, pre-configured templates, and dynamically generated user interfaces to make client/server Java database development easier. Our resource teaches the reader to access a database early on, so that the knowledge gained will have immediate impact on projects. Readers will also learn useful design patterns tested in the field, along with the application of complex topics such as database inheritance. This book is packed with topics that are absolutely needed to be a successful WebObjects developer.

Very Good Book for beginners or experts 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I wish that I had this book when we started our SAP project. This book will help anyone who is thinking about installing or upgrading SAP. It helps explain how SAP software will use the hardware. And how all of the pieces fit together. Even though this book is by HP press it stays true to the theme. They do try and "sell" HP hardware or solutions every once in awhile, but for the most part this book is generic in vendor. You won't go wrong with reading this book or just having it for reference the next time you have to upgrade your hardware or if you are having response problems and need to know how to evaluate your hardware. We have been an SAP customer for six years and have grown up with SAP in the US (started at version 2.1 and have just completed our 4.6 upgrade!).

Editorial Review:

Provides an extensive overview of the hardware needed for a mySAP.com implementation, with a review of sizing techniques for servers, storage, and more. Offers guidance on architecture from IP address structures to cabling infrastructures. Softcover. DLC: SAP R/3.

A Book You'll Love to Hate 2 out of 5 stars.
8 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I decided I had to speak out against this book before other unsuspecting geeks were barraged with Scott Kelby's patronizing platitudes. This book *does* have some useful tips -- I will begrudgingly give it that. But at what price!

Outside of the very occasional, tiny pearl, this book has little to recommend itself. The author's style is pedantic at best. It would appear that Mr. Kelby wrote the entire book to comment on how clever he is and how useless Apple's Human Interface folks are.

All this would certainly be forgiveable, or at least bearable, if only there were sufficient, useful information contained herein. It couldn't be farther from the reality of the situation! Not only is there little in the book that isn't solved by looking at the interface (e.g. using the Dock preference pane to change dock behavior, using the red/x button to close non-active windows, getting "More Info" from the System Profiler by using the "About This Mac..." dialog box), the author will deliberately avoid giving useful information to the reader to impress on us the value of his solution.

Take for instance the "problem" addressed at the bottom of page 87, command (apple) + n does not create a new folder (as it did in Mac OS 9). Mr. Kelby does not point out that you now just need to become accustomed to using another finger to hold down the shift key in addition to "command" and "n". No! He suggests instead that you control click in the appropriate place and select "New Folder" from the pop-up contextual menu!

I plan to keep this book for reference now that I own it for the occasional interesting tidbit, but unless you enjoy being talked down to as a reader and letting a book get away with assuming it's preaching to an appreciative choir all the while, do not buy this book.

Editorial Review:

Mac OS X Killer Tips is not another newbie book. OS X Killer Tips speaks directly to the daily Mac user who needs to get the most out of their Mac NOW. "Nothin' but sidebars!" Time is money. And a lot of experienced users find themselves trying to save time by skimming through larger computer books in order to pull out the useful nuggets of info that are often placed within what we call sidebars (i.e. those Note/Tip/Warning boxes). The Killer Tips series was developed by Scott Kelby because he recognized how useful non-beginning technology users find those cool "I didn't know THAT" sidebars that are peppered all over the other computer books out there. This book is all about speed; showing the Mac professional how to get more work done faster, while actually increasing quality. The whole concept is to help make the reader faster and more productive than ever using their Mac. In an ever-tightening and competitive marketplace, this kind of book is sorely needed.
