I am a PP consultant, and I find out a lot of very useful tips concerning this part of SAP R/3. An integration with CO and MM has also been described. So I recomend this issue to any interested in PP people.

Best Book Overall for Test Preparation 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 16 people found this review helpful.

I've worked on SQL Server, taken this exam, and tutored others in SQL Server. Overall this book is as at least as good as the competition. It is much better written and editted than most other books on SQL Server, although as some other reviewers have said you sometimes hope for more detail. This book alone won't prepare you for the test, but it is a required one in my opinion. Some other good books are Sybex's "Mastering SQL Server 2000", Microsoft's "Inside SQL Server 2000", and of course SQL Server's "Books Online". Practice tests like Transcender or the Microsoft Readiness Review are an absolute requirement to pass the test, which is in my opinion one of the harder ones given by Microsoft.

A book that was a totally self sufficient standalone preparation for the test would be several times the size of this volume! This one is as good as anything available.

Editorial Review:

This official "MCSE Training Kit" teaches database administrators how to set up and support Microsoft SQL Server 2000 -- as they prepare for MCP Exam 70-228, a core exam for MCDBA certification and an elective on the Microsoft Windows "RM" 2000 MCSE track. Topics map directly to the objectives measured by the MCP exam, including installing and configuring SQL Server 2000, creating databases, optimizing database performance, extracting and transforming data, managing security, and monitoring and troubleshooting SQL Server system activity. Students learn through an integrated system of skill-building tutorials, case study examples, and self-assessment exercises. An economical alternative to classroom instruction, this kit enables students to set their own pace and learn by doing!

Advanced? 3 out of 5 stars.
8 of 9 people found this review helpful.

It's well written and easy to follow but the "advanced" claim is misleading. There are some useful tips, pointers and ideas but if you want to learn some advanced techniques you are better to get out on the web and start searching. The CDML section is particularly lightweight.

Editorial Review:

FileMaker Pro 5 is a leading database solution for workgroups and individuals managing information on the desktop and the Web. FileMaker Pro 5 Advanced for Windows and Macintosh: Visual QuickPro Guide offers the most efficient way for smart, creative, busy professionals to learn how to build custom databases using scripts, templates, and more, and to share and manage information with colleagues in the next cubicle, over an intranet, or on the Web. Good book for those who minimized post-production support. 4 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Prince does a good job of outlining and detailing the thought process that has to be gone through as the SAP home team ( those who will be responsible when the system fails) gets ready to "go live" with SAP. The first section talks about the "help desk" issues and are well stated and certainly worth preparing for. The inclusion of Chapter 5 " Supporting the Evaluation and Start Up Phase " seemed a little out of place to me but the points presented in that chapter had to be done somewhere. The post-production support process has many elements to it and those who have been suckled by the SAP consultant would do well to consider the thinking and steps they must go through to be the IT system owner again. The book touches on training but does not point out how the training team can be an essential element to getting a help desk off the ground. Prince also has a good chapter on testing which can also be tied to training and the post production support ( Help Desk) activity. The chapter on handoff puts meat behind the oft quoted but too freqently practised activity of transfering the knowledge base from the SAP consultants to the home team. I recomend this book to whoever finds himself/herself thinking about supporting the SAP R/3 system.

Editorial Review:

This book on Systems Applications Products in data processing (Release 3) provides usable, real-world methods and strategies for supporting a live SAP R/3 installation. Through screen captures, custom spreadsheets, and working templates, Supporting SAP R/3 increases your support staff's efficiency and productivity. Key emphasis is placed on helping individuals and businesses manage a new user base and generating their confidence in the SAP R/3 application.

Excellent high level overview 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 15 people found this review helpful.

My company has been an SAP customer for years, but there was still a lot of mystery about what SAP is and why it's good. This book lays it out in perfect terms, integrating both the C-suite point of view and the IT perspective. I highly recommend this book to anyone working with SAP.

Excellent Book 5 out of 5 stars.

An excellent book that gives a good insight of the business processes and business objects of different SAP R/3 modules. I urge the author to write a new edition of the book that reflects the recent development in SAP.

As someone who is quite new in SAP World, I must say that this book left a good impression on me by answering how SAP relates to different business processes in an organization. The subject is well-categorized, business processes and objects are well-defined. But on the other hand more illustrations and charts could have been used to improve the understanding of readers.

Editorial Review:

Explains SAP R/3 in common business terms, presents IT infrastructure for e-commerce and supply chain management, covers the latest SAP R/3 release, 4.5, and includes a vision for the Next Generation Enterprise Beyond Y2K.

Editorial Review:

If you are responsible for the administration of an SAP R/3 system, or would like to know more about it, this book will show you how to exploit the potential of the R/3 system to maximum effect. SAP R/3 Administration provides a detailed explanation of the technological basis and the development environment of the R/3 system and practical guidance on performance tuning.

This book provides detailed coverage of the organization and operation of the R/3 system and the transport system that monitors, coordinates and logs access to system data. It explains the fundamentals of ABAP/4, the programming language at the heart of the SAP R/3 system, and shows how to program simple reports and understand ABAP/4 programs.

With this book you will learn how to: * monitor and maintain a live R/3 system * understand different types of R/3 systems, exchange objects between these systems and control modifications to the user * use the CCMS (computer center management system) to observe R/3 operation and evaluate and avoid potential problems early on.

The authors have drawn on their own considerable experience in customer support to provide this comprehensive, practical guide to the administration and performance tuning of the SAP R/3 system. While you do not have to have any prior knowledge of the R/3 system to read this book, it is assumed that you will have some previous experience of relational database management systems and SQL.

An accompanying disk contains R/3 transport data for the examples featured in the book and is described in Appendix G.
