Teach Yourself Microsoft Office 2000 Visually 5 out of 5 stars.
24 of 24 people found this review helpful.

I feel that this book is the best book for learning Office 2000. It is easy, but has a lot of information. I have never seen a better computer book, and I hope they make more like this. This book is for people who know older Office programs and those who are trying Office for the first time. If you really want to learn it fast and easlly try this book. This book does not waste words or your time.

Every page is filled with colorful graphics!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book makes office 2000 a cinch!! I recommend this book to anyone!

Good Place to Start 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This is a very good book for novice to beginners who know how to use only the obvious features. This book introduces you to a good foundation of details. As the level of the book is Beginner to Intermediate,as stated on the book itself, you will need to read another book on Office 2000 for Intermediate to Advance skills. But this is a great place to start.

Editorial Review:

Read less and learn more. Teach Yourself Microsoft® Office 2000 VISUALLY™ makes understanding the basics of this powerful suite of programs easy and fun. The book features beautiful 3D drawings that fully illustrate each topic. You also find clear, concise, and jargon-free descriptions, time-saving advice, and two-page color spreads that provide complete coverage of key topics.

Macro CD - Definately helps and good start but could be more user friendly 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I think the CD definately helps you identify macros for very particular, obsscure uses however you still need to customize the macro for your file. Sometimes this isn't so easy - I think the CD needs to be more user friendly in terms of explaining howe to use the code they have in your file. Definately though one of the better macro products on the market - there just isn't enough good advanced products in this market.

Holy Macro! It's 2,500 Excel VBA Examples: Every Snippet of Excel VBA Code You'll Ever Need 4 out of 5 stars.

Editorial Review:

The most widely used operating system in the world, XP is certainly the most reliable and best-looking version of Windows. But it comes with a baffling multitude of features and functionality that you'll struggle to understand--despite all of the hours you've logged with Windows 2000, Windows Me, 98 or 95. And if you're a beginner, where do you start? Windows XP Personal Trainer enables beginners and experts alike to become black belts, quickly and easily. This fully illustrated book takes a modular approach to learning, allowing you to start with the fundamentals and work your way to advance topics through dozens of task-oriented lessons--at your own pace. The companion CD tutorial guides you through each lesson interactively. With plenty of detailed diagrams, Windows XP Personal Trainer includes sections on:
  • Working with Windows
  • Using the programs included with Windows XP (such as Media Player)
  • Organizing files and folders
  • Modifying the taskbar and desktop
  • Customizing Windows XP
  • Optimizing and maintaining the operating system
  • Exploring the Internet
  • Networking with Windows XP
If you already have experience with Windows XP, you can dive right into those topics (and only those topics) that you need or want to learn. Unlike many consumer software tutorials that dumb down the material or present it in a confusing fashion, Windows XP Personal Trainer is written in a non-technical and engaging style that you will find fun, easy, and most of all, clear and informative. You can become proficient without wading through tons of jargon and technical information. Part of our new Personal Trainer Series, this book is based on content from CustomGuide (www.customguide.com), a leading provider of computer training materials. Founded by instructors who grew dissatisfied with the industry's dry course materials, CustomGuide offers courseware (for instructors and students), quick references, to software bulletins and e-learning courses that are fun, flexible, and easy to use.

No real life examples 1 out of 5 stars.
8 of 13 people found this review helpful.

This book sucks! Its just a little better than the help file included in with Excel. All he does is put it in a diffrent order. I was expecting small excercises where I could put my new skills all together, but there is none. So you read the whole book, remember as much as you can, and go off and try to mix and match hundreds of commands... buy another one.

Editorial Review:

Just because electronic spreadsheets like Excel 97 have become almost as commonplace on today's personal computers as word processors and games doesn't mean that they're well understood or well used. In fact, many computer users – even those well versed in the art of writing and editing in Microsoft Word – have little or no idea of what they could or should do in Excel.

Do you fall into that category? If so, rest assured – you're not alone. Excel is a great organizer for all types of data, be they numeric, textual, or otherwise. Because the program has loads of built-in calculating capabilities, most people turn to Excel when they need to set up financial spreadsheets and create fancy reports with charts and graphs. But those aren't the only things Excel can do, and Excel 97 For Windows For Dummies can help you discover all the cool things you can do with Excel.

Written in a breezy, easy-to-understand style by veteran Dummies author Greg Harvey, Excel 97 For Windows For Dummies is the perfect resource for anyone who uses Excel, whether you're new to spreadsheets or you've been using them for a while and want to pick up some additional pointers. Here's just a sampling of what you can find in Excel 97 For Windows For Dummies:

  • Moving around in the Excel interface
  • Creating a spreadsheet from scratch
  • Entering your spreadsheet data with ease
  • Making your spreadsheet presentable
  • Creating charts and putting your spreadsheet on the Web
  • Working with multiple worksheets and collaborating with others
  • Top Ten lists on setting Excel preferences, creating Excel macros, and customizing your Excel toolbars

So, if all you want to know is how to accomplish the things you need to do in Excel – and without having to become a spreadsheet guru – then Excel 97 For Windows For Dummies is the perfect introduction to the world of spreadsheets.

Perfect for Advanced Users! 5 out of 5 stars.
30 of 31 people found this review helpful.

In the section where I work, everyone uses Excel, but outside of entering data and applying a couple of formulas / formats, they are generally clueless as to Excel 97's power. Just two weeks of toying with different things listed in this bible have made me the department guru!

As others have mentioned, talk of VBA is short here, but Walkenbach (a tremendous writer) has a VBA for Excel 2000 book out (not a bible) that looks to cover VBA for Excel 97 as well, so I am looking to purchase that next. Bibles are cool - Wife has the Access Bible, and that one rules, too.

Editorial Review:

Excel 97 has finally arrived, putting in your hands more and better features than ever before. Excel 97 Bible gets you up to speed with all of them quickly -- even if you've never used Excel before. With Excel guru John Walkenbach to guide you, you'll get the low-down on everything from enhanced what-if analysis tools to the easy-to-use Internet Assistant, which turns your spreadsheet into a Web page that others can view over the Internet or your organization's intranet. Comprehensive and authoritative, Excel 97 Bible is the indispensable, all-in-one reference you need to unleash the power of the world's most popular spreadsheet application.
