Recipe to achieve piece on Earth: Just remove a tiny part of our brains.. 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I did not like this book at all and I feel a bit ashamed that this negative review is longer than the positive ones that I have written. Ideas flow to my mind of why I find this book so bad and I am always lacking words to praise the good ones. The author does not write how perception, language or any brain function could "create" our perception of God, but limits himself to state that a region of the brain seems to be related with it by mentioning a few examples of brain injuries that could point towards this conclusion. For a deeper, more complete and far better explanation of these clinical cases and their probable conclusions read Phantoms in the Brain: Probing the Mysteries of the Human Mind. You can find an excellent anthropological study of why people tend to believe in a superior godlike all-knowing being and why we tend to perform religious rites in Religion Explained, both are first-hand accounts of the respective studies.

The book is very easy to read and it contains one interesting chapter, namely the one in which the author explains his perception of all the sciences being one only science, but focused on a different section of the space-time scale. Particle physics studies the origin of matter and of the universe; Cosmology studies its further development, Astronomy studies the stars and planets, Geology concentrates on the earth, Chemistry studies the composition of substances, Biochemistry studies the origins of life, Biology studies life on earth, then follow Paleonthology, Anthropology, etc.

I consider the rest of the book completely unscientific. The author jumps to conclusions, that for me lack even basic logic: If two human groups with different religious beliefs live close together and there is a food shortage in the region, they will kill each other for religious reasons. If there is no food shortage they will coexist pacifically. Therefore religion is the source of our evils. Excuse me??? Am I missing something? Is this a new science of parallel or indeterminated causality?

The author claims that if we could precisely localize the "God part of the brain", we could remove it with a brain surgery (he mentions that he would not recommend it because of cost and risk reasons, but otherwise it would be possible and highly desirable to improve peace on earth).

Wouldn't it be easier to improve food supply or energy supply or whatever the tribes are fighting for? Otherwise we would have to identify and remove with surgery the "race identity part of the brain", the "nation concept part of the brain", the "left and right wing parts of the brain", the "class fight part of the brain" and maybe even the "liberte, egalite e fraternite parts of the brain". For all of these some more and some less good reasons, blood has been shed on earth. It has happened frequently that initially noble concepts like "liberte, egalite e fraternite", bringing a "liberating" faith to some people, liberating others from the "opium" of it or even liberating an "oppressed" nation from its tyrant are imprinted on battle flags and a lot of suffering is brought to the people that apparently were going to be "liberated". Isn's this another form of "atheist fundamentalism"? At least, there is no need to kill all those naughty believers, just remove a tiny little part of their brains...

I will dare a bold conclusion in the author's style: Once we have removed all these parts of the brain and after no more brain is left, humanity will be as pacific as an oak tree (desireless and completely zen).

After reading this book, I would like to read an anthropological, psychological or biological explanation of the "mine is the only truth" part of the brain or why do we tend to go to extremes. Any suggestions?

Editorial Review:

From the dawn of our species, every culture has maintained a belief in some form of a spiritual reality. Wouldn't this imply that human spirituality must represent an inherent characteristic of our species, that is, a genetically inherited trait? Are Humans "wired" to believe in the universal concepts of a god, a soul, and an afterlife? Are what we call spiritual/religious experiences strictly physiological in nature, the effects of our brain's chemistry? Does God really exist "out there," beyond and ondependent of us? Or is God merely the product of an inherited human perception, the manifestation of an evolutionary adaptation - a coping mechanism - one that emerged in our species to enable us to survive our unique and otherwise debilitating awareness of death?

Editorial Review:

In the same way that "The Indigo Children" was a phenomenon that was much talked-about, before the book came out and explained it, "Earth Angels" is a topic of much discussion among spiritually minded people world-wide. Four years ago, Doreen Virtue wrote an article on the topic, and then a chapter in her book, "Healing with the Angels," and then more information in "Healing with the Fairies." Since that time, Doreen has been flooded with letters from people who resonate with the idea, requesting more information.

"Earth Angels" will be the first book devoted to the topic. Doreen will describe the five different types of lightworkers: Incarnated Angels (those who had previous lives as angels, but who are now here as humans); Incarnated Elementals (those whose previous lives were in the elemental kingdom, as fairies, elves, etc.); Starpeople (those who have lived the majority of their past lives on other planets); Walk-In's (those who came from a high spiritual realm and walked-in to another person's life, as that soul gladly exited their body); and Reincarnated Sorcerers, Sorceresses, and Wizards (those whose most recent past life was during Arthurian or Atlantian times, when they practiced high magic).

The book will include dozens of case studies; a fascinating analysis of an extensive survey that Doreen has conducted among people who identify with the five types of Earth Angels; and guidance to help readers to feel happier about their lives, their own idiosyncrasies, and their missions.

Objective Evidence/ Practical Application Of Reincarnation 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

Hello my name is Kevin Ryerson I am a colleague of Dr. Walter Semkiw and my work is mentioned in the book Return of the Revolutionaries ,the topic is the practical uses of the objective evidence of reincarnation as a tool for spiritual growth. The following is in appreciation based on the content of Dr Semkiws' book, I was honored to participate in with Dr. Walter Semkiw author of Return of the Revolutionaries. Jeff Keene a person who shares a remarkable story of his past life during the American Civil War is another person and a case in Dr.Semkiws book who tells his own story in "Some One Else's Yesterday" reviewed by Dr. Jeffery Mishlove PHD. As you proceed through Walters' book you will read information that is intended to ask questions about our Planet and its various cultures and what it would be like as objective evidence of reincarnation is documented by the scientific method. Walter is very clear that further scientific research is needed and that the data represented in the book is qualitative evidence. I hope that you add Dr.Semkiws' classic research on the subject material of reincarnation to your collection.

One of the matters of reincarnation to keep in mind is that out side of the West reincarnation is not only a given,it is an applied value system in a wide range of cultural areas. One of these is the use of past life profiles in medicine, psychology, spiritual practice, occupational choice etc. Walter Semkiw in a reference in the book makes a heart felt statement that reincarnation maybe used as a tool to guide nations and humanity to a more enlightened way of conduct.

It is my proposal that reincarnation is already a provable phenomena and that we are in a position to apply this natural human resource to the betterment of individuals and society. I invite folks to look at societies and cultures who already make open use of reincarnation. There are many such as Tibet, Aboriginal Peoples,India, etc. I am hoping that there can be a conversation based on the premise that in the Majority World reincarnation is already a practiced value system. On a daily basis billions of persons practice cultural rituals that demonstrate the validity of this value system the same way that every day there are scientific experiments that hold together our world view. In Tibet ,India,Peru,China, Japan etc. there are thousands of oracles, doctors, engineers, artists, architects working with such a world view in daily practice. It is not my intention to be the sole intellectual or spiritual arbitrator of this premise. It is my hope that as we gather ideas, rituals, technology, wisdom, healing etc. we will be able to reach a level of complexity where a natural synergy will occur and we will be able to do some serious reality engineering(the re imaging of our society and culture).

I would like to use a type visionary anthropology or Anthropological Futurism to see what Modern Western culture would look like.I am also a fan of Rupert Sheldrake and his "little science" vs "big science" as out lined in his book "Seven Experiments That Could Change the World". We are certainly not lacking precedents for this. Japan is a good example. I spent 10 years,60 days out of the year, working in Japan as an expert intuitive. The Japanese people are wonderful hosts and are well grounded in their unique culture of Shinto/ Buddhism (not all Japanese are of this religious persuasion there are Christians, Atheists, Muslim, etc).I am certain some of you have traveled to Japan. My experience of the Japanese is that they consider Buddhism to their international religion and adhere to a wide range of practices and beliefs all of which acknowledge reincarnation as playing a role. Shinto is conceived of as the National religion and is a complex system of ancient Nature Gods and Goddesses. Historically many of the Shinto and Buddhist temples have existed side by side for many generations. It was my observation that the Japanese people had a wonderful way of synergising many of the practices and rituals, particularly in private households involving ancestors, family, or local deities. It is this type of observation that I hope will be shared here.
The number one concern or question that I worked on with folks in Japan on is who were they before, what was their Karma and what were the talents that could serve them and their families. They were sometimes excited to learn about past lives outside of Japan but were always concerned in what way that might make then less Japanese(gaijin). There was some objectivity in the lives that were discovered for often the folks had traveled or spent an extensive amount of time in the countries of a past incarnation(usually work or school or sometimes a passion for the place of past origin). Folks from Tokyo were usually quite comfortable with lives outside of the country rural folks were more shy.The people of Osaka loved the the idea of lives that were adventures and involved lives as successful merchants ( often around Venice Italy). These of course are generalizations. Using such cultures as a frame work of reference I would invite folks to add their vision,as to what they would imagine this emerging society would look like, in say 2025.

My own contribution to Dr. Semkiws' work was to point out that we may now be at a point in research on reincarnation that we may begin to apply this knowledge in useful ways such as in Integrative Medicine. I point out that the greater population of the planet already accepts the belief in reincarnation and that the west is only now reaching a similar conclusion through the use of the scientific method. I am an Intuitive (trance channel) in the tradition of Edgar Cayce. That in addition to working with Dr.Semkiw I have worked with scientist such as Dr. William Kautz a former staff research scientist at SRI , Dr. Kautz book "Opening the Inner Eye" documents the use of expert intuitives in research on earth quakes, AIDS, SIDS, to name a few, and of course reincarnation.
I have begun to work with the positive cases with a process that is called Biographical Futurism. I use the case of Andrew Jackson/John Kerry (observe the portrait of Jackson on the 20 dollar bill) to point out how events in Jackson's biography were predictive of events in the Senator's Presidential campaign(for instance Jackson/Kerry were both war heroes ran against sons of a previous presidents and appointed the Senator from North Carolina as their running mates etc.) I also pointed out that the West placed more value on Karma than Dharma (service) and almost always thought of Karma as punitive. I made reference to the concept that we reincarnate to grow from our emotional intelligence and to self actualize through our eight human needs (as in Buhdism) this combined with the method of Biographic Futurism will allow us to develop even more clear life maps as a source of guidance in our near future. ***A few quotes " If Kevin Ryerson is acting he deserves an Oscar that has not been invented yet." Shirley Maclaine " Imagine my surprise when Tom Mc Phereson (Tom revealed to me his actual family name is MacFerguson from the County Kerry) spoke in the Celtic dialect of my grandparents."D.R. Irish Citizen "Whatever Kevins spirit guides maybe they had to be alive at the time they say to have the historical knowledge they have of my country M.S. Egyptologist ; Egyptian Citizen.

Please Read the Book and Decide for Yourself 5 out of 5 stars.
25 of 30 people found this review helpful.

No matter what you have read about this story and choose to believe, as the saying goes, "the proof is in the pudding." I would like to point out that Morey Bernstein never once in his life said that this story was proof of reincarnation. Not even close. He said that it definitely warrants further invesigation into the phenomenon. At the time the book came out, the western world was against any idea of reincarnation as it flew in the face of western thinking (Although, lets take a look: hundreds of millions of people take reincarnation as a fact of life as part of their religion). The discreditors of the story never once found any way to show the story was a fraud. In fact, the discreditor happened to be a Chicago TABLOID!!! The women allegedly named Bridey Murphy who lived across the street upon further investigation turned out to be the mother of the TABLOID's owner. The person below me mentioned occum's razor (the simplest solution tend to be correct) Think about that. In fact, when a more credible Chicago paper picked up the TABLOID's story, it had to cut out a whole bunch of arguments because they were just way too outrageous. ex: When Ruth Simmons was a girl she had a park accross the street which she played in many times. This explains why she would have said she lived in "the meadow."
Now that is just ridiculous, especially when a hand-drawn 1800's map of the city Cork, the area in which Bridey lived according to Ruth's sessions was called "The meadow." Now Ruth, living in America her whole life, and having never even heard of the town called Cork, recalls an area of only a couple square miles in the 1800's in Ireland. None of this was made up. Everything Ruth said under hypnosis has been verified to be real and not a hoax. am i saying that reincarnation exists? After reading the book, i believe. But please, read the book and don't read anything trying to close your mind to one of the most amazing cases of age-regression hypnosis ever told.

I really like this book. It does not necessarily follow the bible to the exact word. But, what is important is that we can all learn to be better people. This book can help anyone do that by improving our outlook on life.

the book for the skeptic 5 out of 5 stars.
110 of 113 people found this review helpful.

Well, well, well...no stars are enough for this book. It seems the word belief does not exist in Dr Stevenson's dictionary , and with clinical detachment, he has investigated each and every of the 20 cases. He has avoided philosophy and religion talk etc and does not have his own agenda which he his trying to promote. There are many books on reincarnation written by those who want to make a quick buck, or those promoting a particular religious thought or simply to become popular and appear on talk shows and then charge people (gullible) on an hourly basis. Dr Stevenson is not driven by any such factor. Reading his methodolgy, he has actually gone about the research as any skeptic would. He has not believed the case story and then looked for evidence that would support such a case story, he has looked for the evidence any skeptic would. The presentation of evidence gathered is fantastic showing the corroboration of each evidence. The best thing I liked about his research was that he actually attempts to rule out any fraud in each case story. Unbiased and honest. The use of the word "suggestive" speaks for his style used in the book throughout. He does not attempt to force any philosophical, religious thought down the reader's throat. You are free to make your own conclusions....and yes, it is DARN RIGHT CONVINCING !

NOTE: I HAVE NOT READ THIS BOOK YET

...but, I'm skeptical to it's significance because on the hardcover edition Anne Rice has written the Foreword. If this guy is supposed to be a pastor and a christian then why is he letting this "vampire author" tarnish his book and message!

Boo!

From Darkness to Light ... Good over Evil 4 out of 5 stars.

From atheist to evangelist, Howard Storm's DESCENT takes the reader on a personal journey from the bowels of darkness to the heights of spiritual enlightenment & ultimately the victory of good over evil / light over darkness. The style of writing & wonderfully descriptive scenes allow for an easy read that moves the reader along on a pace that makes NOT turning the next page impossible. I applaud the author's courage to open his life & soul for all to examine & the ultimate triumph he experienced and now shares with others to show them the hope & light that is theirs to have as well. If you enjoyed Mr.Storm's journey of good over evil, light over darkness, I recommend MANHATTAN MESSIAH, another excellant read.

OK, but... 2 out of 5 stars.
80 of 84 people found this review helpful.

This book is fine for people new to the topic. It details how events in past lives affect what's happening in the current one. Has only a smattering of info about life BETWEEN lives. Also tells of famous cases historically. But if you've already read very much on the subject, read Journey of Souls by Michael Newton (and see the reviews), which tells ALL about life between lives.

Let the journey begin... 4 out of 5 stars.
28 of 30 people found this review helpful.

As someone who deals in life, death, and quality of life issues on a daily basis... I have always been fascinated by what lies beyond. This book took me deeper than I have been before and led me to think about issues in a different light.

I have always wondered why some people are born into luxury, and others famine- some into health, others in bodies that can't even last through childhood.

In seeing that these circumstances could be the result of our own choice, for a spiritual goal, It helped me to deal with my everyday frustrations about the inequalities we see around us.

This book was fasinating, and thought provoking.

A Coast to Coast Phenom 2 out of 5 stars.
4 of 6 people found this review helpful.

First of all, the reason this book has sold so well, and the reason there are so many reviews here, is because of the author's multiple guest spots on Coast to Coast AM (para-meta-conspiracy, alternative radio), of which I am a long time listener. This is my kind of book, I was more than willing to eat it up. But what I experienced was one of the most poorly written, poorly edited smorgasbords of loosely related material with constant, almost paranoiac, reference to the work of others, that I found it almost unreadable. I mean I had to put that puppy down for a while until I again had the fortitude to continue. By the time I finished it,... weeks,... there was nothing about it I carried away with me. No inspiration, no follow-up based on the voluminous reference material,.... nothing. I actually think he ended up reining all his stuff for me. Anyway, if you want my suggestion, if you want spiritual, related to 2012, new age, etc., try Ramtha or James Gilliland. If you want armchair compilation experts, try to find someone who can write. You will, there are many.

Editorial Review:

Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century opens with the circumstances of this author’s contact with a “dead” optics physicist colleague that set him adrift on the ocean of other-people’s opinions—not facts—concerning life-after-death. Desperately searching for scientific answers to his myriad spiritual questions, Harper finally landed on solid intellectual ground only after he paradoxically anchored himself to the Rosetta stone of trance that unified the purpose of religion and science into one truth. Indeed, he learned that we are all becoming fifth-dimensional beings of light with third eye open “psychic” solar powers once again. Harper saw that what astronomers define as Solar Cycle 24 between the Venus transits in 2004 and 2012, astrologers had symbolically portrayed as the Eternal Return of the Sun of God. This is an easy-to-read book offering words of wisdom as we enter into the Age of Aquarius—The Water Bearer of cataclysmic Earth Changes.

it seems false 1 out of 5 stars.
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I have read 12 books on Near Death Experiences and a couple of unpublished manuscripts on the subject, from people of various religious beliefs. My heart and mind were expanded and trully blessed by the knowledge and spritual enlightment those people brought to us from heaven. This one book however, has been so far the only one that gave a feeling it is a fabricated story. Maybe not entirely, perhaps Kathie had some true experiences. I understand those experiences are very individual, "taylor made" to each person, but there are many commonalities. Yet, some aspects of Kathie's story are completely at odds with everything else we read of NDEs and the information they give about the nature of the spiritual world. More than that, it just doesn't feel true. Also, she would rather try to bring too much attention to herself with this "Little One" story.

Editorial Review:

From the age of 7 to the age of 22, Kathie Jordan's deceased brother came to her at nighttime, pulled her from her body, and guided her to Heaven. In these nighttime journeys, she was taught about the purpose of life in the body, the meaning of death, and about the soul's progress in the afterlife. In these moments out of her body, Kathie is taken to higher and higher levels of Heaven, where she meets and learns from spiritual teachers, including Jesus.
