With all the international trade and travel to and from foreign countries this book prepares all people in the cultures and foreign courtesies
each of us should at least have an idea of. Most foreigners appreciate even the most small recognition that we can expend toward their culture and practices even if we make small blunders in doing so - it shows we are aware that there are differences in cultures and we are at least trying to show respect for theirs'.

Great Little Book! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

At my company we have been using this book for years. We recently hired 3 new managers and secretaries and we ordered these books for them. They love them. I personally use the book almost on a daily basis. Not only for writing performance reviews but also for everyday memos. The book is broken up in different sections depending on what type of review you are writing. I don't know what I would do with it.

Great product, fast shipping 5 out of 5 stars.

Great book - should save me tons of time when it comes time to review my staff.

A real life saver. 5 out of 5 stars.

If anyone is going to buy "only" one book to write effective rating evaluations, then this is the book you need. I highly recommend this book it's quick and to the point.

Performance Review time? Cut the time in half! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I have 13 performance evaluations to complete; and 10 are for the same position. It's challenging to make them unique; but this book helped me tremendously to find the right adjectives to describe each person uniquely; as well as cutting the time in half that it normally takes to write a review. I ordered 3 more books this year to share with other managers in my department because they kept borrowing mine.

Editorial Review:

Now in its ninth edition, the guide has been continuously revised to meet changing employment conditions. This widely acclaimed handbook is a practical and valuable aid to making the completion of performance appraisals fast, easy and accurate. Combed bound.

Editorial Review:

How can you know when someone is bluffing? Paying attention? Genuinely interested? The answer, writes Sandy Pentland in Honest Signals, is that subtle patterns in how we interact with other people reveal our attitudes toward them. These unconscious social signals are not just a back channel or a complement to our conscious language; they form a separate communication network. Biologically based "honest signaling," evolved from ancient primate signaling mechanisms, offers an unmatched window into our intentions, goals, and values. If we understand this ancient channel of communication, Pentland claims, we can accurately predict the outcomes of situations ranging from job interviews to first dates.

Pentland, an MIT professor, has used a specially designed digital sensor worn like an ID badge—a "sociometer"—to monitor and analyze the back-and-forth patterns of signaling among groups of people. He and his researchers found that this second channel of communication, revolving not around words but around social relations, profoundly influences major decisions in our lives—even though we are largely unaware of it. Pentland presents the scientific background necessary for understanding this form of communication, applies it to examples of group behavior in real organizations, and shows how by "reading" our social networks we can become more successful at pitching an idea, getting a job, or closing a deal. Using this "network intelligence" theory of social signaling, Pentland describes how we can harness the intelligence of our social network to become better managers, workers, and communicators.

One of the best books on how to network correctly 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

If you read one book on networking, this is the one to read. Burg's system focuses on how to network correctly, thus enabling you to build a pipeline of qualified, A-list prospects for your business. This book is a must-buy for anyone striving to build business referrals that will continue the gift of giving in the long haul. The questions Burg outlines in Chapter two are a key component of how one should begin to network from this day forward. In addition, he shares the one question that will change your networking process forever. It's a question so few know to ask. And if you use this question at your next networking event, you will immediately establish yourself as an expert who knows how to deliver value to your prospects and your customers -- and to the networking process itself. This book is extremely thorough in outlining a proven system for networking anywhere any time. Most important, Burg shows you how to enjoy the process. This book is a seminal part of my professional library. I use it daily as a reference to build my business.

Editorial Review:

Once upon a time, "networking" meant shaking hands and passing out business cards. But in a sell-saturated world of junk faxes and telemarketing, virtually everyone-from sales reps to self-employed psychotherapists-needs a tested system for building lucrative contracts... one that sets them apart from the pack. Endless Referrals is that system. Developed by top communications pro Bob Burg, this powerful guide shares his carefully cultivated secrets on... Networking anywhere... how to make profitable contacts on airplanes, at health clubs-wherever chance meetings occur; Using the telephone... how to master an indispensable-but often intimidating-instrument of communication; Remembering names and faces... how to greet any contact warmly and personally-simply by following 6 easy steps; Following up... how to make sure business-ready prospects never think of anyone else; Communicating one-on-one... how to recognize-and respond to-a prospect's innermost motives, feelings, and desires.

This was a quick read because it was so interesting. I loved the examples - really made the principles come to life.

Editorial Review:

Positioning, a concept developed by the authors, has changed the way people advertise. The reason? It's the first concept to deal with the problems of communicating in an overcommunicated society. With this approach, a company creates a 'position' in the prospect's mind, one that reflects the company's own strengths and weaknesses as well as those of its competitors. Witty and fast-paced, this book spells out how to position a leader so that it gets into the mind and stays there, position a follower in a way that finds a 'hole' not occupied by the leader, and avoid the pitfalls of letting a second product ride on the coattails of an established one. Revised to reflect significant developments in the five years since its original publication, Positioning reveals the fascinating case histories and anecdotes behind the campaigns of many stunning successes and failures in the world of advertising.

Editorial Review:

Phyllis Mindell, an acclaimed expert on professional communications, shows women how to transform themselves by transforming their language; shed weak words, phrases, and gestures; empower themselves to win attention and respect; and get their ideas across with confidence and power.

Perhaps the best teacher of how the power of language can transform is an unexpected one: Charlotte the spider of E.B. White's, Charlotte's Web. Mindell demonstrates how Charlotte communicated messages that gained national attention and saved a friend's life. As a model, she combines female strengths of wisdom and compassion with the determination and power to make a difference.

As part of Prentice Hall Press's highly successful How to Say It tm series, How to Say It tm for Women is packed with practical tips, techniques, and examples that arm women to grapple with every communication issue, from choosing the right word or sentence to speaking, reading, writing, leading, dressing, and interviewing effectively. Readers will learn how to: shun words that weaken messages and make women invisible; sail through interviews; assess and develop leadership skills; say NO, kindly but firmly; respond appropriately to slurs, insults, and harassment; say the one winning word that gets people to follow directions.

True stories about women in every field, along with quotes from Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Carla Hills, Amelia Earhart, Elizabeth Dole and others, enable women to tap the power of words to persuade, motivate, establish authority, and make a difference-- without sacrificing their integrity, their compassion, or their femininity.
