Editorial Review:

Ordinarily, I'm a fan of pink-lovely colour, does smashing things for the complexion. But not when it's the bright, glaring stripe staring back at me on the pregnancy test. Then, pink is the colour of major oops, of morning sickness, of boyfriends who seemed decent but now are part of some Jerk Witness Protection Program. Still, I've got a few things going for me-bitter humour, a divine right to eat till I'm the size of Marlon Brando, and good friends who've managed to get me a job interview with one Damien Sharpton: in need of a personal assistant, and some say, a good, swift kick in the arse. If you want to make a lasting impression, by all means, toss your cookies in your future boss's wastebasket, which is located directly between his excruciatingly sexy legs. Apparently, Mr. Gorgeous-But-Unbearably-Anti-Social must like personal assistants who violate his trash can, because I got the job. And if I can avoid him via text messaging for the next seven months of health insurance, everything will be just fine. Except that he's just asked-no, insisted-that I go with him on a business trip to the Caribbean. Gulp. Ordinarily, this would be cause for celebration. Ordinarily, I'd shave my legs, pack my bikini, revel in day-glo drinks and my seething lust for Mr. Swarthy-And-Secretive. But there's nothing ordinary about this situation...which means it could be absolutely extraordinary...

I'm a financial professional from NY. I find that doing the paperwork after a business trip can sometimes be more trouble for me and and the Payable Department than the trip was worth.
Schaeffer's book will help you streamline the T&E process and provide you the information you need to put effective policies and procedures in place.
The information we used from this book helps our company save money on every trip our associates take.

After getting Controller and CFO's Guide to Accounts Payable, I picked up Travel and Entertainment Best Practices. Again I have gotten what I needed. Using this book as an outline I can safely give sound advise on what and how to handle T&E. My situation is awkward as I have to fill the shoes of a much senior previous employee, I cant tell you valuable it is to have the wisdom of Mary imparted to me.

Good Insight - From a Strongly Christian Perspective 3 out of 5 stars.
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book for my husband, when he took a new job requiring lots of travel. While there is lots of good insight to be had, the book has a strong fundamental Christian bias that was not mentioned on Amazon. My husband is turned off by all things religious, so was taken aback at what he felt was a hidden spiritual agenda behind it. We were disappointed that someone hasn't written a book on this important topic without the religious bias.
Bottom Line: Great book for the Christian traveler, or those interested in or at least tolerant of a strongly religious perspective. Some good insight to be gleaned, if you can muck through the doctrinal bias. However I REALLY wish someone else would address this topic crucial to so many couples, without bringing in religion.

Editorial Review:

Whether you're the road warrior or stay-at-home spouse, frequent business travel presents distinct challenges to your marriage and family. Many families simply try to survive this lifestyle. This book shows how you can develop closeness and deepen your togetherness--at home or at a distance.

The challenges you face while separated--parenting, keeping in touch, handling sexual expectations, making decisions, and staying emotionally and spiritually strong--are sympathetically addressed here by one who knows what the traveling lifestyle is like. Whether you're seeking emotional comfort or practical wisdom, Keeping Your Family Close holds out hope and help for your unique situation.

Though frequent travel may be a fact of your family's life, it doesn't mean your home life has to disintegrate. Let this book cultivate communication between you and your spouse so that as a couple--and as a family--you may grow closer together, even when you're apart.

An important book. 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Anyone in either Israel or the US that is interested in working with a factor from the other country cannot afford not to read this book. It has nothing to do with intuition or intelligence - the differences can only be learned, either through tiresome and costly experience or through reading Border Crossings.

right on target! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I work in a multinational company and am in daily contact with colleagues and clients abroad. They come from r&d, marketing and sales. When I read the book, everything clicked. All of a sudden, I understood why problems dealing with contracts, managing time and solving conflicts had arisen in the past. "Border Crossings" also gave me some good ideas about how to solve intercultural conflicts. When I first started out, I needed a dictionary to understand the language. Now that I understand the language, I need a cultural interpreter to figure out what the words and behavior really mean. "Border Crossings" is my interpreter.

Editorial Review:

This work provides a systematic look at cultural differences across a variety of fields: commercial, bureaucratic, professional and social settings, illustrated with many case studies and examples. It shows readers how to deal with different norms, expectations and behaviour patterns, and how to cope with what outsiders often see as the rudeness and abruptness of everyday life in Israel, where there is little predictability and where things can appear to be always in motion.

Buy this book! You won't be sorry.

Editorial Review:

As a company or an individual, you cannot control the desire and the ability of criminals and terrorists. However, you have full control over effectively lowering your risk of being attacked by increasing security measures–physical, technical, and procedural. The less vulnerable we are, the less attractive we are to any criminal or terrorist planning an attack. Let Executive’s Guide to Personal Security show you how to ensure safety both at home and abroad.

Editorial Review:

The Way of the Road Warrior offers weary business travelers inspiration, advice, and practical skills for conquering the competition while conducting business on the road.  This business traveler’s handbook is written by Robert L. Jolles—salesman, consultant, professional speaker, and veteran “Road Warrior” who has logged more than twenty years and two million miles in the air.  In The Way of the Road Warrior, he delves into his personal journal and wealth of experience to offer insights on the sometimes difficult balancing act between work, travel, and family.

Robert Lewis Stevenson wrote, “The most beautiful adventures are not those we go to seek.” In these pages, readers will find that a chance conversation with a cab driver can be as valuable as a sit-down with a CEO.  Jolles also speaks to the dangerous and addictive aspects of business travel and doesn’t sugarcoat the toll it takes on those who wait at home. From beginning to end, The Way of the Road Warrior will teach you why business travel isn’t just a way to do your job, but a warrior’s path to insight, wisdom, and so very much more.

Traveling Made Easier 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

"The Unofficial Business Traveler's Pocket Guide: 165 Tips Even the Best Travelers May Not Know" is an absolute delight, and it lives up to its promise. For the Frequent Flyer there is much we can learn; for the less than Frequent Flyer, even more. This is perfect reading while on the airplane. The bite size chapters are a delight to taste, and the author's humor makes for an excellent dessert. I often found myself saying, "That's true, I just hadn't thought about it." But there is also plenty of material that I never would have thought about. I've bought several of the books for gifts to friends.
