The Bodie Thoene books just keep getting better. By entertwining Biblical history with fictional elements, readers keep learning more and more about Judeo Christian heritage. Her ability to tell a story and teach at the same time is unsurpassed.

Fabulous! 5 out of 5 stars.

Great bathroom book 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is primarily short stories about our Savior. Lucado is far from a Theologian, but in this book he is able to present a different view of the humanity of Christ. This book is important for better understanding Christ.

Editorial Review:

Majesty in the midst of the Mundane. He looks like anything but a king. His face is prunish red. His cry, though strong and healthy, is still the helpless and piercing cry of a baby. He is absolutely dependent upon Mary for his well being.

Holiness in the filth of sheep manure and sweat. Divinity entering the world on the floor of a stable, through the womb of a teenager, and in the presence of a mere carpenter. God had come near!

Travel back in time and relive Christ the Son of God becoming man. In this stunning work, Max Lucado views the Savior who walked among us through a distinctly human lens. He speaks plainly to those of us who prefer to keep Jesus otherworldly, distant, and predictable: "Don't do it. For heaven's sake, don't.  Let Him into the mire and muck of our world. For only if we let him in can he pull us out."

Through vivid word pictures, come with Max as he brings to life the most important event in history . . . when God Came Near.

a must read 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Imagine living in a country ruled by an evil king. When you see his soldiers brutalize people daily, you wonder, Who will punish the wicked? You plead, When will this world be set right?
Imagine receiving a visit from an angel while you're milking a cow in your barn. What this angel says is so shocking, your life will never be the same. Would you think you were dreaming? Or would you believe the message? What if the message were true? Would you ask yourself, If I told others about it, would they believe me?
Imagine just before you are to be married you hear that your betrothed has been unfaithful. How would you respond?
You have now entered the world of Fourth Dawn.

Excerpt from the introduction to Digging Deeper into Fourth Dawn

Taking a drastic step thirty years back in time from where Third Watch, the previous book in the A.D. Chronicles series, leaves off, Fourth Dawn places the reader into the lives of those whom every Christian holds in high esteem. We unconsciously put them in a place of reverence for the roles in which they partook in the Messianic prophecies as they were fulfilled one by one over 2,000 years ago. But they were people, just ordinary people who were used by God in an extraordinary way.
Brock and Bodie Thoene delve into what their lives must have been like and put their own insightful thoughts onto paper in the most amazing history lesson for us to enjoy.
How must Zachariah have felt when, while fulfilling his Levitical duties in the Holy of Holies, he learns his elderly barren wife is to conceive? What about Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist? Haven't you always wanted to know what thoughts must have kept them awake at night as they saw themselves being used of God in such a personal way?
Mary is so young to bear such a burden for her people, to carry the Christ-child. Wouldn't you doubt your capabilities? Wouldn't you buckle under the weight of such responsibility?
In love with the sweetest girl in Nazareth, Joseph dreams of the day he'll take Mary to his marriage bed. He spends his days preparing his home to receive her, the home where they will raise children and grow old together. How must he have felt to know that he must not touch his beloved, that the child she carried was the Child?
Fourth Dawn will take you on their journeys of shock, fear, doubt, and acceptance. Other well-loved fictional characters from the series also make a re-appearance. The reader is swept into their pasts and shown what events made them who we know them to be from the first three books.
Onias, propelled by the urgency of the times, secretly, fervently scours the writings of the prophets searching, wondering...when will the Messiah come? What are the signs we must look for? Surely the hour is at hand! But who is that around that dark corner? Whose footstep does he hear at his back? Herod, that insane king of the Jews, would like nothing more than to see Onias staked to a cross, as well as any other who hungers for the coming of Messiah, the true King of the Jews.
The Thoenes uncover history as you've never seen it before revealing the God-ordered patterns and paths of the stars and planets and demonstrating how God used even those to point the world toward his Son.
Fourth Dawn's Jerusalem is teetering on the verge of earth's most magnificent and impacting event, and it's waiting for you to take part. This is a read that will deeply impact you and move you to pick up a copy of the Scriptures and study it out for yourself.
I couldn't recommend it more highly.

Editorial Review:

Leading up to the birth of Christ, Fourth Dawn tells the Christmas story like never before. This is Joseph and Mary's story ' the human drama of a virgin teenage girl pregnant with the Son of God and her fiancé who must deal with the reality that he is forced to care for the mother of God's child and eventually care for the child himself. Told through the eyes of those who witnessed these events, Fourth Dawn takes place at a time in history when the evil Herod ruled ' a dangerous time for anyone to show interest in the Messiah's coming, much less give birth to the Messiah, or to be the Anointed One!

Editorial Review:

Sarai was a child of ten years, wise for her age but not yet a woman, when she first met Abram. He appeared before her in her father's house, filthy from the desert, tired and thirsty. But as the dirt of travel was washed from his body, the sight of him filled her heart. And when Abram promises Sarai to return in ten years to take her for his wife, her fate was sealed.

Abram kept his promise, and Sarai kept hers they were wed, and so joined the royal house of Ur with the high priesthood of the Hebrews. So began a lifetime of great joy together, and greater peril: and with the blessing of their God, a great nation would be built around the core of their love.

Bestselling author Orson Scott Card uses his fertile imagination, and uncanny insight into human nature, to tell the story of a unique woman--one who is beautiful, tough, smart, and resourceful in an era when women had little power, and are scarce in the historical record. Sarah, child of the desert, wife of Abraham, takes on vivid reality as a woman desirable to kings, a devoted wife, and a faithful follower of the God of Abraham, chosen to experience an incomparable miracle.

More like a resource 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

The life and times in and around the first century are facinating. Wangerin does a perfect job of reflecting ancient times with such realism it is a joy to walk in the steps of Paul. I find Wangerin's writings a great resource aside from the fictionalization of the characters themselves.

A challenge at times with so much detail, but worth it.

Paul: A Novel 5 out of 5 stars.

Walter Wangerin Jr. once again weaves his spell as he brings the Bible to life. His knowledge enables him to successfully entwine information from different Books of the Bible which helps improve one's understanding of Paul's journeys. The reader gains greater insight into his letters to the Galatians, etc. The rich details bring this period of time into perspective and often you remark to yourself ...."So that is why that happened". This has, as with his other books, added to my appreciation and understanding of the Bible.

Editorial Review:

Walter Wangerin brings us a dramatic, fictionalized retelling of the life of Paul based on biblical texts and extensive on-site research. Readers gain a new appreciation for the sacrifices of the apostles and the early believers and gain new insights into the life of the early church.

ASTOUNDING! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This has been a tough review to write. Not because the book was bad, rather the opposite. It was so incredible, it's difficult to use simple words to describe such a phenomenal book. It swept me into Eve's life with such ease, that I forgot I was not reading history. Generally, biblical fiction is not my favorite read--but this cannot be classified as such! It's beyond description.

I found that Havah is one of the most phenomenal novels I have ever read, gripping me in talons that would not let go. It goes beyond the ordinary ideas about Eve to what feels painfully accurate. What I figured would be a boring topic was anything but. I have never wanted to read about Eve, but could not put this down.

I was captivated from the moment Havah first hears the delight-filled command, "Wake!" until the joy and truth at the completion of her story. I agonized with her through her unsuspecting relationship with the devious serpent, her frightening exile from Eden, and her excruciating growth as a fallen, fallible woman. I walked with her as she experienced the frustration at all she had lost through the heartbreak her choice had caused. The burden of her choice is ever with her, shaming her, and wreaking subtle and clear havoc in her family.

I have never read a book like Havah. It's brilliantly conceived, uniquely delivered, and phenomenally profound.

Editorial Review:

Eve, exiled to a life outside paradise, nears death. As she waits, she recounts the story of her creation and a cruel existence. Revisit the birth of humankind through the eyes of the first woman ever to live.

Editorial Review:

Janette Oke has dreamed for years of retelling a story in a biblical time frame from a female protagonist's perspective, and Davis Bunn is elated to be working with her again on this sweeping saga of the dramatic events surrounding the birth of Christianity…and the very personal story of Leah, a young Jewess of mixed heritage trapped in a vortex of competing political agendas and private trauma. Caught up in the maelstrom following the death of an obscure rabbi in the Roman backwater of first-century Palestine, Leah finds herself also engulfed in her own turmoil--facing the prospect of an arranged marriage to a Roman soldier, Alban, who seems to care for nothing but his own ambitions. Head of the garrison near Galilee, he has been assigned by Palestine's governor to ferret out the truth behind rumors of a political execution gone awry. Leah's mistress, the governor's wife, secretly commissions Leah also to discover what really has become of this man whose death--and missing body--is causing such furor. This epic drama is threaded with the tale of an unlikely romance and framed with dangers and betrayals from unexpected sources. At its core, The Centurion's Wife unfolds the testing of loyalties--between two young people whose inner searchings they cannot express, between their irreconcilable heritages, and ultimately between their humanity and the Divine they yearn to encounter.

HADASSAH ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book is totally awesome. The story line is beautiful, and it also
follows how everything happened in the Bible. It is one of the greatest
love stories that I have ever read. I would highly recommend it. ONE
NIGHT WITH THE KING is one of my very favorite books. It could have been
twice the pages, as I hated for it to end.

Editorial Review:

Tommy Tenney’s powerful fiction debut, Hadassah: One Night With the King, has been adapted for the big screen with a planned spring 2005 release. This major box-office production includes the introduction of Tiffany Dupont as Esther, with starring roles for Omar Sharif and Peter O’Toole, along with John Rhys-Davies and John Noble (both from the "Lord of the Rings" movie trilogy). This movie edition of the novel includes stills from the movie sets, bringing vivid images to this already gripping novel of intrigue and suspense, love and hate.

Book Two In Chronicals of the Kings Series! 4 out of 5 stars.
14 of 15 people found this review helpful.

Ms. Austin's second book in her Chronicles of the Kings series is just as good as her previous title. This story pick up where "God and Kings" leaves off and again brings tales of the Old Testament to life once again.

King Hezekiah wants to rule under God's law. His path won't be easy and he will have choices that he will have to make that will not be popular or easy. Once such choice will be to rebel against the Assyrian leaders to the North of his country. Once this decision is made tasks are taken to protect the city and the water supply. The closer his enemy comes to the city the more Hezekiah's advisors suggest that he make peace with the Assyrian's. This is not an option to the strong leader who has made a decision and will stand by it...no matter what. There is a second part to this story and it's about his choice of wife. Will he stay true to his wife Hephzibah or will he look for another to stand by his side?

Hephzibah is strong and loves her husband King Hezekiah. She is heart broken when he turns to his concubines for company and support. Than miracle of miracles he turns to her. Together they fight the enemy and become a united front. King Hezekiah finds support where he least expected to find it. Will his love for Hephzibah also bring him a small amount of peace?

Again this was a very good and descriptive read. Ms. Austin has brought this time period to life and fans of historic fiction will have their appetite sated for sure. For those that are not familiar with the bibles teachings this will be a good read for them. Ms. Austin has again brought the Old Testament to life in a way that will transport the reader back to this very turbulent time. I highly recommend Ms. Austin and her Chronicles of the Kings series.

Editorial Review:

Chronicles of the King Book 2 When King Hezekiah discovers that God’s Law forbids him to take multiple wives, he must choose one woman to love. He must also choose to trust God’s promises when he decides to rebel against his powerful Assyrian overlords. Hezekiah seeks to strengthen his nation’s fortifications by building a tunnel in Jerusalem to hide his water supply. The tension mounts as the Assyrians march closer--and Hezekiah’s tunnel remains incomplete. With his officials advising him to submit to the Assyrians, Hezekiah’s faith is once more severely tested.
