Save your money 1 out of 5 stars.

This book provided only generalizations without sufficient detail. There are plenty of great books out there on infertility. I suggest reading one of those. This book does not proide sufficient information on dosage or when to take herbs during your cycle. This could lead to some potentially damaging situations for some women.

IT REALLY WORKS 5 out of 5 stars.

Karen Bradstreet is fantastic and I only hope she reads the reviews posted on the Amazon.com website, so she will feel satisfied that her book is helping lots of people all over the world. I bought her book 'Overcoming Fertility Naturally' about 2 months ago, and within 30 days of my husband and I both trying her recomended combinations of vitimins and herbs religiously every day, I was pregnant. We had been trying to get pregnant for about 1 1/2 years. Now some of the skeptics out their may think it was coincidence, and perhaps it was, but I am positive Karen's book helped us along our way. For those of you who have had trouble conceiving, give this book a try as you have nothing to loose. Good luck. Thank you so much Karen Bradstreet.

PERFECT "BEGINNERS' BIBLE" FOR NEWCOMERS TO INFERTILITY 5 out of 5 stars.
21 of 22 people found this review helpful.

A person who is just getting his feet wet in the frightening and confusing world of infertility, obviously finds himself overwhelmed. The medical jargon today, all those acronym -- GIFT, ZIFT, IUI, PCT, BBT, LH, FSH, HCG, HSG, IVF, not to mention PROST, TOAST, SUZI, FREDI, etc. can just make your mind spin. There are many difficult moral decisions to make as well. Dr. Goldstien's book is a perfect "beginners' bible" to infertility. It explains every facet of the experience in great detail, and patients become better medical consumers as a result. In addition, Dr. Goldstien is the #1 recommended urologist in New York City, and is widely used by the Jewish community in N.Y. He is very knowledgeable and sensitive to the needs of the Jewish community and the restrictions they have concerning male infertility. Recommended reading for everyone -- whether you want to seek help, you are in the thick of being helped, or are almost beyond help..... Lots of luck to all who are struggling with this excruciatingly difficult life's experience!

Editorial Review:

The completely revised and updated edition of the  most comprehensive authoritative book on the  subject from Drs. Berger and Goldstein, two experts in  female and male fertility.

A helpful, compassionate book 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

As an individual and as part of a couple I've read dozens of books on infertility. Unfortunately, they are usually preachy and/or clinical. "Couple Therapy For Infertility" was neither. It offered new insight into how infertility effects relationships. It gave me personal guidance - I've recommended it to friends and to my therapist! I am thrilled such a book has *finally* been published. This is an important topic that demands such sensitivity and compassion. Recommended reading for all couples. Thank you sincerely!

Editorial Review:

This volume describes in step-by-step detail a unique therapeutic approach developed to treat couples confronting the painful challenge of infertility. Therapists learn how they can help couples accept the possibility of not having genetically related children; acknowledge each other's feelings and deal with problems that may arise in their relationship; and assess the potential gains, pitfalls, and psychological effects of available treatment options. Detailed guidelines are set forth for implementing therapeutic interventions in each of five unique stages typically experienced by couples. Illuminating the tasks that couples and therapists face throughout the process, the book is illustrated with extensive case examples that bring the material to life. A useful Appendix provides current information on medical evaluation and treatment.

Disappointing 1 out of 5 stars.
14 of 20 people found this review helpful.

This book focused tremedously on what to do when you cant have a baby....and emotional issues...did not have essential info..that a couple would use, it was actually depressing

Clear, concise, easy to understand - the best guide there is 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I've read a lot of infertility books, and this is clearly the best. Not only does it explain normal fertility, and then infertility in clear and understandable detail, it also gives a couple the information they need to be active, informed, and effective participants in the infertility treatment team. If not for this book, my wife and I would have had unnecessary and expensive treatments. Thanks.

A must to take charge of your infertility 5 out of 5 stars.

I feel this book arms the reader with the information needed in deciding which direction to take once you've found yourself on the path where no hopeful parent wants to be. I love that it validates the many feelings which accompany infertility when society, out of a misguided need to help, often encourages us to squelch these emotions. The book also offers alternatives to "genetic parenting" rather than enforcing treatment as your only hope of getting on with your life. I found Part Two: Understanding the Medical Aspects of Infertility, to be an easy-to-comprehend guide of the workings of the body and a walk-through of the various procedures available to assist in your quest for parenthood. It's my opinion that every would-be parent would feel so much more "in control", something that is rarely felt in infertility, if they would walk into their doctor's office with this book firmly under their arm.

Highly recommend for those new to DI 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I am fairly disappointed by how few books there are about DI. While there is a lot of information on the internet, I think that reading a variety of first-hand narratives would be helpful for people who are just beginning to consider DI. So, I was very pleased when I found this new book. This book follows a British couple as they go from diagnosis of azoospermia to exploring various treatments to deciding how many cycles are too many. (Boy, do I remember agonizing over that point!)

While some of the procedures and costs are different in the UK, their experience closely mirrored our own. Because it is based on a diary that the author kept, she includes some very intimate and intense conversations that she and her husband had in regards to infertility. These events clearly highlight the need for both parties to be in full agreement before embarking on the DI journey.

At times, the story line is a little muddled. The author has a lot of friends in whom she confides and it is sometimes difficult remember who is who. She is also a practicing Buddhist and writes about that quite a bit. (It's a little odd so see Buddhist terms mixed in with infertility jargon in the glossary.) Overall, though, I think that this book is a worthwhile read, especially for those just starting out.

Editorial Review:

How far would you go to have a baby? "Making Babies the Hard Way" is a frank account of one couple's discovery that they cannot have children of their own, and their ensuing struggle through four years of fertility treatment. One in six couples worldwide seek assistance to conceive and 80 per cent of couples undergoing fertility treatment are currently unsuccessful. Writing with humour and honesty, Caroline Gallup describes the social, emotional, spiritual and physical impact of infertility on her and her husband, Bruce, including feelings of bereavement for the absent child, the unavoidable sense of inadequacy and the day-to-day difficulties of financial pressure. As well as telling her own moving story, she also offers information and guidance for others who are infertile, or who are considering or undergoing treatment. This courageous and poignant book will be of interest to couples who cannot conceive and those who are undergoing treatment, as well as their families and friends.

Just the facts, ma'am 3 out of 5 stars.
9 of 16 people found this review helpful.

I am lucky in having pursued infertility therapy as a client (successfully, thankfully) as well as by being a urologist who treats infertility clients. I read this book to decide if it would be a helpful adjunct to the people I treat. I have decided not to recommend it to my clients. I would sooner have them read Larry Lipshultz's book, technical as it is.

While the medical information in the book appears accurate, there is an awful lot of fluff and touchy-feely content obscuring the medical information that is important. At times, the text is downright pandering.

As a urologist who treats infertily patients (successfully, I might add), I found the belittlement of those of us without fellowship training insulting and capable of undermining the confidence of my clients. The benchmarks they site as marks of expertise are entirely artificial and appear self serving; 'don't go to any practitioner who doesn't...do it like we do.' Hopefully the discerning couple will see through the alarmist threats that you will receive inferior medical care and results unless bring your money directly to a university hospital, fellowship trained infertility specialist who only will accept cash in advance of all visits and procedures. Unfortunately, such content only deters those without the means or proximity to visit such fellowship trained infertility specialists from pursuing their care through the resources they do have access to.

Until this book is revised in a way that eliminates the self serving content directing people to refer themselves to specialist with like training of the authors, I would be hard pressed to recommend it to anyone. Additionally, eliminating a bit of the fluff would be extremely helpful in assisting people in actually finding worthwhile current treatment practices.

The Embryologist's Bible! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Lucinda Veeck has again provided the embryologist with a magnificent collection of photographs depicting every possible scenario faced within the in vitro fertilization laboratory. From oocyte to blastocyst, every stage beautifully depicted, with excellent narrative. This collection is a vital tool for training the eye of junior embryologists as well as a welcome resource for experienced laboratorians needing a second opinion. I wouldn't want to be without this book!

Editorial Review:

Replacing and superseding all other works in this area, Dr. Lucinda L. Veeck's An Atlas of Human Gametes and Conceptuses is the only book now in print that shows the typical and atypical morphology of human oocytes, sperm, and preembryos collected and cultured during the course of in vitro fertilization treatment. Brilliantly illustrated with hundreds of original photographs in color as well as black and white, the book also details and fully illustrates specific new reproductive technologies and provides the reader with both a glossary and a concise history of in vitro fertilization. Includes bibliographic references and index.
