Informative, but tough to get through 3 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This book had a lot of information, but nothing different/new than what I read in other books on the subject. There were no pictures or sample charts to view, so if not for having other books on hand to reference I don't think I would be able to successfully track my fertility. This book would be best used to supplement another fertility awareness book. I would reccomend "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler

Used this to conceive! 5 out of 5 stars.

My body and mind have never been in sync, so this book was a real eye-opener for me! Easy to follow and logical. We used this book in conjunction with a series of Clomid and both feel we scored a hit (and a gorgeous baby boy!) almost first try because we used both in conjunction. It also saved my husband's energy!! We shall use it again (in reverse, like another reviewer) when we're ready for our second.

Effective 'Breastfeeding Birth Control' 5 out of 5 stars.

I can't say that I've used all of the information in this book just YET.
I am writing a review because I have used the advice contained in this book that explains all of the 'necessary conditions' for using breastfeeding as a method of birth control.
Well, for me, this was a 'leap of faith'. I knew I did not want to take the pill, and also that I did not want children closer than nine months apart! So, in addition to the advice that is given in this book, we also used condoms for the first two or three months after birth(s), and 'the rest' has worked great for spacing each of my 3 children 3 years apart.
This is definite reading for every married couple, but especially every woman that does not want to take the pill (especially while breastfeeding).

A Prayer Book for Infertility 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Being Jewish, I discovered there are few prayers for a woman or man to cite for infertility. This book is wonderful!

It contains many prayers to be cited thoroughout the entire infertility process. My husband and I both use it. We even take it with us to the Fertility Specialist's office. The book contains prayers to cite for waiting in a doctor's office; prior to examinations; for procedures; for conception; and, especially there are prayers to be cited at Shabbat and Holidays.

I also love it because it relates inferility back to the Bible (Sarah and Rebecca)and even reviews rituals that have been utilized. It is truly helping us through this difficult time in our lives.

Editorial Review:

Enables those frustrated and pained in their attempts at parenthood to mourn the loss of a pregnancy or infertility through the prayers, rituals, and meditations of the Jewish tradition.

This new edition--updated and expanded--includes guided questions and pages on which to add personal reflections of your own emotions and experiences along the path toward parenting.

Informative, intelligent, reassuring pregnancy manual! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book prior to becoming pregnant and I must say that it has been a pregnancy reference manual for both my husband and me. This book puts your mind at ease by answering the most common questions and informing you on the many exciting aspects of pregnancy. Although every pregnancy is different, we will refer to this book time and time again for answers, information and reassurance. Unfortunately, it is no longer in print. However, if you can find it at your local library, I suggest you borrow it.

Editorial Review:

Semen analysis can be a confusing, intimidating procedure. Patient Guide to Semen Analysis is a guidebook expressly written for male fertility patients undergoing testing.

Presented in an easy to read "Question & Answer" format, the text covers everything from the procedure itself, to the biological foundation of fertility and the male reproductive system. Several jokes and cartoons lighten the text, and make an otherwise technical subject easy to grasp.

The author, Dr. Jeyendran, is a leading expert in the field with numerous publications. Having worked directly with patients for over twenty-five years, he feels that sharing his medical knowledge makes the entire fertility management process easier. By knowing exactly what's involved during each step of the process, the male fertility patient and their partner will feel more at ease and capable of making the best decisions.

Beautiful, complex writing about wanting children 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I always find people's stories about their infertility and fertility to be very moving. Stories about children and parents are always the most heartbreaking. But in the hands accomplished writers like the 22 in this 90%-nonfiction anthology, the subject is very nearly devastating in its sadness, joy, and beauty.

I traded most of my own writing time for time with my own long-sought-after children, and reading these writers made me feel, really for the first time, the pain of what I gave up to be a father! Writing, too, can be so wonderful!

WANTING A CHILD is not a breezy read because the writing generally is complex, though always quite clear. And there are maybe two duds. But overall, it is just magnificent.

Don't read this if you're pregnant!! 2 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I am 4 months pregnant and got this book as a gift. I'm not sure if the person who bought it for me realized what it was about. As an expectant mom reading stories of the troubles people had conceiving and carrying children, it made me depressed and anxious - what if my child has Down's syndrome, what if it's stillborn, etc. So, if you have had trouble conceiving, by all means, this book is great support. I believe people need to "bond" with others who share similar trials and tribulations. But if you are not, and are easily spooked, I'd suggest picking up something more light-hearted and happy.

Editorial Review:

The first book of its kind, "Wanting a Child" is a collection of personal essays written by literary authors about their difficult, sometimes heartbreaking but ultimately mostly successful quests for parenthood.
