Rambling but interesting... 2 out of 5 stars.

Not much help for a casual student of wine looking to begin a cellar, but still an interesting read. He tends to focus very much on Australian wines (since he is from that land) and speaks mostly of wines that none of us can get, much less afford.

wonderful overview about cellaring 5 out of 5 stars.

As a beginner to cellaring I enjoyed reading this book very much. It affords all important informations about every aspects of cellaring. The authors' special collecting experience(15000 bottles or more!) and tasting experience(old wine up to one or 2 centuries) was great and made me wondering about every bottle in my small cellar cabinet. I appreciated his comments about the cellaring potential of various grape varieties, and especially had a new understanding about white wines. Many information on Australian wines, too. Very interesting and wonderful. Good for everyone liking to collect wines.

Editorial Review:

One of Australia's most respected wine writers and critics writes on collecting wine - and how to go about it. Find out about the problems a bottle may encounter during its life and how to minimize them, how to start a cellar and maintain it, and how to choose white and red wines for cellaring.

Description:
This paper discusses the results from the monitoring of various traditional underground wine cellars in the area of ''Tierras sorianas del Cid''. The studied area belongs to the ''Denominacion de Origen of Ribera del Duero'', which is known all around the world because of the high quality of its wines. Four wine cellars from two villages were monitored at two times: summer and winter time. Underground wine cellars can contribute to energy savings due to the stability of temperatures occurring inside them. The aim of this study was to analyze the existence of differences in temperature and relative humidity inside wine cellars which influence the quality of wines. The results showed that the temperature registered inside the wine cellars was much more constant than outdoor temperature, but there were some differences in the temperature level and annual variation of temperature from one cellar to another, which we try to examine.
