Editorial Review:

Tom Dunleavy has a one-man law firm in America's wealthiest resort town-legendary East Hampton. But his job barely keeps him in paper clips. His clients make a living serving the rich. The billionaires and celebrities swarming the beaches already have lawyers on their payroll. VERY EXPENSIVE Then a friend of Tom's is arrested for a triple murder near a movie star's mansion. Tom knows in his gut that Dante Halleyville is innocent. Dante asks him to represent him in what could be the Trial of the Century. VERY EXCLUSIVE Tom recruits Manhattan superlawyer Kate Costello to help. She's a tough hire, because Kate is his ex-girlfriend-but she agrees. In their search to find who really executed three locals, Tom orchestrates a series of revelations to expose the killer-and what emerges is staggering. VERY EXPLOSIVE The final scenes of this book unveil a truth that will leave readers gasping in shock. Written with the precision that has made James Patterson "a master of his genre" (USA Today), Beach Road is his wildest, most thrilling novel ever.

Good reading! 4 out of 5 stars.

Purchased this book after reading the Maximum Ride series....even though it is a slightly different story, it felt like a prequel, I am currently reading "The Lake House", which takes off from "When the wind blows"....I am enjoying the whole group of books, hope Patterson continues with the story line...

Another ho-hum sports novel 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Novels and movies about sports tend to follow the same pattern. If the central figure is a boxer, he will overcome adversity and knock out the champ. In Grisham's football novel, a flailing quarterback wins the championship, albeit elsewhere. Braddock knocks out Baer. Etc. And in Patterson's golf novel, a scratch duffer--well, take a guess.

As for miracles, there isn't much of one, and what miracle there is makes little or no sense. Read it for yourself and ask the burning question--why? And why did a weekend golfer suddenly find his putter? There are just all sorts of whys here, and Patterson brushes right by them. He never gets much past superficial in plot, character or theme.

Part of my problem here is golf itself. Men in pastel attire demand absolute silence as they address a ball that is not moving and which no one will try to field once it is struck. There is a kind of religious hush around tee or green. In baseball there is jeering noise as the batter tries to hit a moving ball with the hope that nine fielders won't get to it until the batter at least reaches first base. Golf isn't really sport by a strict definition. Baseball is. Football is. Hockey is.

The only worthwhile golf novel I know of is "Dead Solid Perfect" by Dan Jenkins. In fact, Jenkins wrote the best football novel as well: "Semi Tough." Both these examples are more for fun than for the thrill of victory. When a writer tries to make sports the central and serious theme, we know how it will end.

Usual 3 out of 5 stars.

Usual Patterson...hard to put down, enjoyable read, but nothing ground breaking. Nora was a likeable murderer. At times we could predict where the book was taking us but it still left us with enough twists and turns to keep the pages flipping.

A New twist on familiar story line 5 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed this book, as I enjoy all of Mr. Patterson's books. This story line was quite familiar to me as it reminded slightly of the movie black widow. If I try to explain it, Ill just give it all away just read the book it was suspenseful and not always easy to anticipate which is always a plus. there were unexpected twists and turns that keep you guessing and glued to the pages. A great read from an awesome writer.

Editorial Review:

When FBI agent John OHara first sees her, she seems perfect. She has the looks. The career. The clothes. The wit. The sophistication. The tantalizing sex appeal. The whole extraordinary packageand men fall in line to court her. So why is the FBI so interested in Nora Sinclair? Because mysterious things keep happening to people around her, especially the men. With the irresistible attraction of the greatest Hitchcock thrillers, HONEYMOON is a sizzling, twisting tale of a woman with a deadly appetite and the men who dare to fall for herand James Patterson will keep readers guessing until the last deadly kiss.

Editorial Review:

The spellbinding story of an American lawyer who takes on a nearly impossible case—the defense of an African freedom fighter against his corrupt government’s charge of murder

Damon Pierce’s life has just reached a defining moment: a gifted California lawyer, he’s being divorced by his wife and his work often seems soulless. Then he receives a frantic e-mail from Marissa Brand Okari—a woman he loved years ago—and decides to risk everything to respond to her plea for help.

Marissa’s husband, Bobby Okari, is the charismatic leader of a freedom movement in the volatile west African nation of Luandia, which is being torn apart by the world’s craving for its vast supply of oil. Bobby’s outspoken opposition to the exploitation of his homeland by PetroGlobal—a giant American oil company with close ties to Luandia’s brutal government—has enraged General Savior Karama, the country’s autocratic ruler. After Bobby leads a protest rally during a full eclipse of the sun, everyone in his home village is massacred by government troops. And now Bobby has been arrested and charged with the murder of three PetroGlobal workers. Still drawn to Marissa, Pierce agrees to defend Bobby, hoping to save both Bobby and Marissa from almost certain death.  But the lethal politics of Luandia may cost Pierce his life instead.

Culminating in a dramatic show trial and a desperate race against time, Eclipse combines a thrilling narrative with a vivid look at the human cost of the global lust for oil. Here is Richard North Patterson at his compelling best, confirming his place as our most provocative author of popular fiction.

Suspenseful Science Fiction 3 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

James Patterson's book, The Lake House, was rather a surprise since I expected a gripping murder mystery and got a science fiction story about children with wings that could fly. Nevertheless, Patterson grabbed my attention early in the story, and by keeping the chapters short for easy reading and filling the pages with action-packed happenings and/or dialogue, he kept the story moving. While I am not a science fiction fan, the story was interesting enough to keep me reading. The resolution to the plot was a bit downsized--a hospital and many personnel were involved, yet, they weren't part of the resolution--only the man responsible. I think I admired Patterson's writing style more than the story itself, but then that could be because I like his thrillers best.

Editorial Review:

The memorable story begun in When the Wind Blows continues in this thrilling novel, and it's one that really soars! Frannie O'Neil, a Colorado veterinarian, knows a terrible secret that will change the history of the world. Kit Harrison, an FBI agent under suspension has seen things that no one in his right mind would believe. A twelve-year-old girl named Max and five other incredible children have powers we can only dream of. These children can fly. And the only place they will be save is the Lake House. Or so they believe...

Not one of his better books 1 out of 5 stars.

I am a huge Patterson fan, however this is the first book of his that I have ever read (25 read so far) that I did not enjoy. It jumps around so much it is hard to follow and confusing when it ends.

Loss of life book not main character 1 out of 5 stars.

I cannot believe Mr. Patterson in any way participated in authoring this book. It was very poorly written and dull. the characters and plot were shallow and underdeveloped despite the length of the book. I am an avid Patterson reader but I wasted my time and money on this one.

Not typical Patterson 1 out of 5 stars.

I have read all of the Alex Cross series, and all of the Women's Murder Club. I have read Honeymoon, Lifeguard, Step on a Crack, Judge and Jury, Beach Road, Beach House, and am working on Black Friday (market). All that being said, I loved them all, Honeymoon probably standing out as one of the best....I did not like Thomas Berryman Number. I have yet to read a Patterson book I have not liked until now. I did finish it, but it was difficult to do. I do not advise anyone to read this book if you are used to fast paced, interesting thrillers. This one is not.

Fast-paced Fun 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

As I scanned the opinions of other readers, I found that in general, people either loved or hated this book. Those who didn't like it seemed to complain at the implausibility of the story. I enjoyed the book because of it's implausibility, which contributed to the overall sense of fun and adventure that is paramount to a good work of fiction. I read fiction to be entertained, not enlightened, and Beach House certainly delivers.

A good looking, charismatic young man is murdered, on the beach, while he is supposed to be waiting the arrival of an anonymous lover. Instead, he is brutally beaten to death. Something takes place in the last few seconds of his life that tips him off as to who is responsible for his murder. It is up to the dead man's brother, a promising law student, to find the clues needed to bring those responsible to justice.

While not a lot of what happens during the 356 pages is likely, it makes for a fast, fun, suspenseful read. Patterson, along with Peter DeJonge, weave a story of powerful people manipulating those lesser than they, blackmail, sex, and the limitless extremes that a person will go through for someone they truly love.

I thoroughly enjoyed Beach House and can't wait to tear into the sequel; Beach Road. If you are able to forgive a little far-fetched story telling, you too will enjoy this tale.
