Editorial Review:

The Pied Piper:
In Seattle, they're calling him The Pied Piper - someone who comes in the night and takes children away. To newly promoted police lieutenant Lou Boldt and police psychologist Daphne Matthews, it's clear this isn't about a single lunatic or random kidnappings: these crimes are well orchestrated, well executed, and, most chilling of all, occurring in cities across the country.

The First Victim:
A shipping container washed ashore leads Seattle television news anchor Stevie McNeal and reporter friend Melissa on the trail of a scam involving the importation of illegal aliens. A career stepping-stone for McNeal, the investigation puts her at cross-purposes with the Seattle Police Department's Lou Boldt and Sergeant John LaMoia. When Melissa disappears, perhaps at the hands of the Chinese Triad, McNeal turns from foe to ally and teams up with the detectives on an investigation that takes them from Seattle's docklands to the offices of the INS.

Parallel Lies:
A grieving man is on a mission to bring down the railroad company he blames for his wife and children's deaths - no matter who else dies in the process. Tyler, the ex-cop who is looking to redeem himself after being suspended from the force, will stop at nothing to catch the perpetrator.

The Art of Deception:
A troubled Mary Ann Walker takes a nosedive off a bridge. Seattle's police department macho man John LaMoia takes the call, along with the beauteous cop psychologist Daphne Matthews. They suspect her boyfriend, known to beat Mary Ann. But the case somehow becomes too slippery to close. Lou Boldt, the supervising officer, is entangled in a conundrum of his own: two women have disappeared and a road crew worker's death may have a connection to the missing women.

The Body of David Hayes:
Years ago, Lou’s wife Liz had an extramarital affair with David Hayes, a young computer specialist at the bank where she is an executive. When Liz ended the relationship after reconciling with Lou, Hayes reacted by engaging in a daring embezzlement scheme that left millions missing. Now, years later, David Hayes is released from prison. Liz is manipulated into playing double-agent by a former colleague of Boldt’s - without her husband’s knowledge.

Cut and Run:
Six years ago, witness protection marshal Roland Larson did the unthinkable: he fell in love with a protected witness, Hope Stevens, whose testimony was to put away prominent members of the Romero crime family. When Hope's plan to “cut and run” is interrupted by both the government and the mob, she disappears into a new identity. Larson is put back on her trail when the Romeros intercept the master WITSEC list from the Justice Department and Hope is believed to be targeted for execution.

Guns and greed lead to grief ... Chris Klick, a guy who traces missing musicians to give himself a trace of the good life, has kicked back to relax over a bird-watching, fly-fishing Idaho summer. Klick's buddy Lyel, a former pro basketball player, could get by clipping coupons. But he's a sucker for a story, and Klick's a sucker for a woman in distress. Together they succumb to Candy McGreggor and agree to find her missing sister, Roberta.
Roberta, an employee at the Butte Peak County Courthouse, seems to have triggered a string of disasters that began with a recent plane wreck and a dead pilot. Has she she just been unlucky, or has she been a player in some deadly game? And, it must be asked, has she gone off voluntarily, is she outrunning her creditors, or has she been abducted? If so, what's the payoff going to be?
Aim for the Heart is the second Chris Klick detection, following Dead Aim (1988, reprinted by Poisoned Pen Press). Klick and Lyel move to undercover work at Oxford University in Concerto in Dead Flat (Poisoned Pen Press, 1999).

Editorial Review:

Chris Klick, whose gig is to restore uncollected royalties to musicians for a percentage, comes to Paris on the trail of a famous conductor. The payoff due is large, but the man is elusive - he's begun an affair with a student cellist, and cleaned out his marital bank account. His wife is displeased, and feeling vengeful. So the maestro hides, and apparently at Oxford.
To flush him out, Klick goes undercover at venerable Wadham College as the visiting Raymond Chandler/Fulbright Fellow, there to research and write a mystery. His entre' lies in a missing don whose absence alarms at least some of his colleagues. But the Warden seems oddly blase'. And what about the case of college port that's missing? Even more puzzling are rumors of a lost Mozart manuscript restored....
While keeping up with own true love Nicole eludes him, Klick and his former-basketball-star buddy Lyel have successfully teamed before in Dead Aim and Aim for the Heart to score up the missing. The hoops may be different, but if they can win in Idaho, why not in England?

Beyond Recognition, read by Dale Hull
A strange series of fires is raging in Seattle - white-hot fires that burn so cleanly even the ash is consumed, along with all traces of the fires' victims. Brilliant forensic investigator Police Sergeant Lou Boldt is back, battling the mysterious arsonist. He is also keeping his eye on the Fire Warden, who seems to be a little too close to the heat.

Editorial Review:

Middle of Nowhere (Narrator: Ridley Pearson, Engineer: Mountain Beach): The "blue flu" has struck the Seattle Police Force and the majority of officers are on an unofficial strike. When a string of robberies and the brutal near-murder of a female cop descend on the city, the pressure of being a nearly one-man operation threatens Lou Boldt's psyche and his marriage. With the help of Daphne Matthews and Sergeant John LaMoia, Boldt comes to realize that the robberies, assaults, and strike are somehow connected - and that his life is now in very real danger.

The Art of Deception (Narrator: Dick Hill, Engineer: Mike Council): A troubled Mary Ann Walker takes a nosedive off a bridge.

Parallel Lies (Narrator: Dick Hill, Engineer: Mike Council): A grieving man is on a mission to bring down the railroad company he blames for his wife and children's deaths -- no matter who else dies in the process. Tyler, the ex-cop who is looking to redeem himself after being suspended from the force, will stop at nothing to catch the perpetrator.
