What a treat to again get a glimpse of the wonderful world of Celestine Sibley. The stories always end too quickly or rather you wish they would just continue.

Research needed 1 out of 5 stars.

I only made it about 2 chapters in this one. Again, Sibley's writing style is fairly good, but she doesn't do needed research. The protagonist was so silly in the previous book that I nearly didn't open this one, but I'd checked it out and thought I'd give her another chance. One of the characters is supposed to be an Episcopal priest, and, admittedly, Episcopalians come in some pretty strange forms these days, but I can't imagine one who would have an Advent wreathe with three purple candles and one white for Christmas (three purple and one rose, and a white one in the center for Christmas; or four purple and one white in the center for Christmas) nor "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" would be sung in the service before Christmas itself. NOT during advent. Episcopalians aren't that hard to research. Why didn't she inquire? It wasn't worth finishing the book.

Editorial Review:

Kate Mulcay is busily preparing for Christmas while looking out for a couple of homeless friends, Shag and Warty, and their dog, Foodstamp. She is surprised but delighted when the very rich Miss Iris Moon offers to take the three in for the holidays. A second piece of luck then presents itself to the long-widowed and lonely Kate: there is a new preacher in town and he seems to have taken a shine to her. But when Miss Moon is suddenly found murdered, and Shag and Warty are flagged as prime suspects, Kate sets out to find the truth. It will be a rollicking investigation that uncovers a bountiful cast of characters -- several of whom may have a motive for murder.

well deserved 1 out of 5 stars.

Any protagonist who is stupid enough to put up with what Kate Mulcay does in this book deserves the results. She doesn't make sure the relatives are actually related; she keeps being devestated by their well meaning but dreadful attempts to help around the house; but never so much as suggests that they check with her before doing things. She gives them cash to spend even when she knows that it goes for liquor instead of food, and then she hands over a credit card and doesn't require it back. When handed the perfect excuse that it's "mislaid", she neither demands nor cancels it. Besides that, I figured out the perpetrators of the murder before it even happened. I would not have finished up the book if I hadn't been hard up for reading material. The one positive point for this book is that the author has a reasonably decent writing style.

Editorial Review:

Receiving a phone call from someone who claims to be her late husband's cousin, Kate invites the stranger and his wife to her home only to become a suspect in a series of strange events that culminates in murder. National ad/promo.

ONE OF THE BETTER ONES!!! 4 out of 5 stars.

Have read several Sibleybooks and this is one of the better ones to me. Kate Mulcay is set to interview Representative Return Pickett, called Turn by his friends. He does not show up and when they go to see about him all they find is a bloody trailer where he lived. Kate sets out to solve the mystery, she has to put up with theGandy girls, a crazy woman who a motel, a sheriff who is very young, a co-worker she can't stand. She has to go into a deep cave to try to rescue someone and she get shot at. The ending has a slight twist to it. All in all a nice little, faily clean mystery. A quick read and one I think you will enjoy.

I love her books. 5 out of 5 stars.

I found Ms. Sibley late and am grateful for the mysteries that she penned. Solid stories with likeable characters. I like her work so much that I've taken to ordering other books, non-mysteries, that she has written. I wish she had taken up mysteries sooner. I glad to know of her. Glad that Amazon still makes her books available through bookseller. I'll miss Kate and will certainly miss Ms. Sibley.

Insatiably curious Atlanta news reporter Kate Mulcay has a wonderful time traveling with a delegation of Atlanta legislators to an annual gathering of cavers--until several of her traveling companions turn up dead. Reprint. K.

KATE STRIKES AGAIN!!! 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Celestine Sibley again has Kate Mulcay playing at being a detective. She is called to Ila Island where she has a cabin. Strange things are going on and people are ending up dead. Are they accidents or is someone commiting murder? Kate has a hard time figuring out why someone would want these people dead. She ends up in trouble herself but is aided by Ash of all people. Sibley writes so you can feel like you are there and a part of these people. No bad language, no gory details, but a good mystery.

Editorial Review:

In the house she and her late husband built on an isolated island off the Florida coast, Atlanta reporter Kate Mulcay must investigate the attempted murder of a neighboring friend's spouse. Reprint.
