Recommended for all couples! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is an expansion of his book Love & Respect, so I recommend listening to/reading that one first, but if you don't he gives a recap. It seems redundant, but the principles are something we all need ingrained into us. My husband and I are a perfect match - we matched on [...] , but our relationship went to a new level while I was listening to these CDs. Eggerichs' principles are straight out of scripture so they work! He sets aside the myths and roles that society has created about men and women and gets back to how God created us to be and to interact. He amazingly does so without offending who we are as women but uplifting us.

Editorial Review:

An in-depth study of the vital principles from the best-selling Cracking the Communication Code now in workbook form.

Communication between couples has been dissected in thousands of books and articles so why does it remain the number one marriage problem? "Because," says Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, "most spouses don't know that they speak two different languages. They are sending each other messages in 'code,' but they won't crack that code until they see that she listens to hear the language of love and he listens to hear the language of respect." Dr. Eggerichs' best-selling book, Love and Respect, launched a revolution in how couples relate to each other. Now with the Cracking the Communication Code companion workbook, the message of this hardcover trade book can be studied and applied whether for a group or for individual couples. The result will be better communication, mutual understnding, and a successful godly marriage.

Best book for this subject available 5 out of 5 stars.
26 of 29 people found this review helpful.

At a time of crisis in marriages and in family relationships, this refreshing and thought provoking book is one of very few that examines and tackles what the Bible has to say about marriage, family and other related subjects. There are ethical discussions on reproductive health and rights, and a discussion on the role of women in society. It may change your views on birth control and reproduction as Dr. Köstenberger addresses "how to think GOD'S way." It honestly discusses Jesus' teachings on homosexuality, the gift of singleness, celibacy, parenting, and divorce and remarriage. The ideas are not only for married men and women, but for all of us! They offer practical advice on the issue of purity, even for those who consider themselves anything but pure!
At a time of crisis in relationships, this Scripture based book shares examples of restoration of God's ideals for marriage and family, reminding men and women to take proper care of their relationships to ensure themselves the happiness they yearn for in marriage. It was helpful as Dr. Köstenberger addressed gender roles, men submitting to Christ, and the husband's authority over women with the husband being the ultimate authority over family. It presents the woman's role, discussing the Proverbs 31 wife, giving everyday advice on how to be a "suitable helper," presenting children, and providing her husband with companionship. He spends a chapter on sex and communication that I found helpful because he spoke from both the perspective of the wife and the husband, and addresses key issues for each.
There is a fascinating chapter devoted to biblical teachings about child rearing, obedience, proper discipline, and introducing children to a personal relationship with "God in Christ." While the child's responsibility toward their own parents changes after they have established a new family, Köstenberger emphasizes that children are mandated to honor parents, and that rebellion against parents is tantamount to disrespect toward God himself, putting it "on the same level as treason and idol worship."
I highly recommend this book. It is practical and down-to-earth, inspiring us to persevere in marriage as a sacred covenant entered into before God. Dr. Köstenberger writes on how to have a great marriage by keeping God at the center of our relationships, and to bear and raise children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. He addressed spiritual warfare and proper use of spiritual weapons.
His examples were great for supporting a case to defend marriage as well as a case against homosexual unions. I found the insight on divorce to be helpful. The end of the book contains a helpful personal and group study guide.
I would recommend this book to Christian as well as non-Christian couples. "Marriage and family are good gifts from a great God." I have already applied some principles of this in my life, and it DOES make a difference.

Editorial Review:

We live in a time of crisis regarding marriage and the family, and only by a return to the biblical foundation can these institutions be rebuilt. To provide an integrated, biblical treatment of the full range of marriage and family issues, the authors of God, Marriage, and Family examine what Scripture says about God's purposes for humans in their marriage and family interactions. Their examination covers the special issues stemming from marriage, childrearing, singleness, homosexuality, and divorce and remarriage. With study questions and points for further discussion, this book is a comprehensive yet concise resource for anyone seeking a Scriptural response to our culture's complex challenges to God's intentions for marriage and family.

Great Book 5 out of 5 stars.

I was a little on the fence about this book because I really didnt think it would help. We are not married yet, but this book has helped a lot to see each other out in the open. It has also showed us what the other thinks about us and what we can work on as a couple.

A MUST FOR COUPLES WHO ARE ENGAGED! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts is the pre-marital book and companion workbooks our church uses with all our couples who plan to be married. A "season" couple goes through the book with the engaged couple, meeting many times the 6 months prior to their wedding. This mentoring process has proved to be a wonderful experience for both couples, and times together carry on well past the wedding day. The newlyweds now have a couple that have invested time with them, other than their parents, which has been a blessing to them.

Editorial Review:

This revised workbook is designed to help the woman explore the issues and practice the skills presented in Saving Your Marriage Before it Starts. Full of lively exercises and enlightening self-tests that will help you and your partner apply what you are learning directly to your relationship, this version of the workbook approaches the issues from a woman's perspective. Each exercise includes an estimate of how long it will take, so you can easily fit the program into a busy schedule. Call-outs in the book let you know the best times to do the exercises as you read.

My husband used this pre-marriage book 22 years ago when we got married so it must work (LOL)!! As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I use this book with my Christian Couples for pre-marriage counseling. This workbook discusses all the potential trouble areas that contribute to most divorces. I highly recommend this workbook.

Great pre-marital counseling program 5 out of 5 stars.

If it can go wrong in a marriage, this workbook brings it out. I have used it a number of times, over 10, in pre-marital counseling and it is the best program I've seen. Everything that needs to be discussed is at some point. Well organized and easy to follow. Strong Christian doctrine.

Great Resource 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is an excellent tool for guiding a couple considering marriage toward taking that step on a very solid foundation. It is also great as a tune-up for couples who have been married awhile.

Editorial Review:

Drawn from years of marriage preparation and enrichment seminars, this handbook delivers solid information on how you and your partner can make your marriage all that it is meant to be, particularly through incorporating Christ into your relationship.

A Good Marriage Book, but not the top of my list 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This is a good marriage book but the handful of others I've read have been better- Sacred Marriage, Starting Your Marriage Right, Sheet Music, and Love That Lasts. This one is a little too long for the subject and is pretty repetitive. It is worth your time but I wouldn't put it on top of the list.

Editorial Review:

Marriage is the union of two people who arrive at the altar toting some surprisingly large luggage. Often it gets opened right there on the honeymoon, sometimes it waits for the week after. The Bible calls it sin and understanding its influence can make all the difference for a man and woman who are building a life together. When Sinners Say "I Do" is about encountering the life-transforming power of the gospel in the unpredictable journey of marriage.

Dave's writing style embraces the reader as he speaks honestly, and sometimes humorously, about sin and the power of the gospel to overcome it. He opens the delightful truth of God s word and encourages the reader to see more clearly the glorious picture of what God does when sinners say "I do."

Best Gift Ever! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I was given this book as a present and I didn't start reading it until things were NOT that exciting in the bed between me and my new husband.

Ladies, all you need to read is the chapter "For Women Only" and your sex life will be changed forever!!! Since reading our sex life has gone from "guess I have to do this" to "can we do it again?!?!"

I give it to every newly married couple as a gift. I've given it to 7 girlfriends and all 7 of them have reported that it was the "best gift ever" and thanked me immensely for it.

I recommend it to newly married couples or for those who would like to find more enjoyment in their sex life. God created sex to be enjoyed by both men & women & this book is a great guide to help you enjoy sex to the fullest!

Editorial Review:

This updated and expanded edition expands some of the subjects that were discreetly touched on in the earlier edition, explores how the latest discoveries in the field of medicine and social practice confirm the principles taught in the book.

Best Audio Book Ever on Interpersonal Relations 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is an awesome audio book. I saw John Maxwell talk about this new book of his on the Joyce Meyer show and was compelled to get a copy for myself. It was awesome. I listened to it twice and then gave it to a friend with instructions to give it back so I could listen to it again. My friend kept listening to it over and over and still hasn't given it back. I bought several of these and gave them as Christmas Presents to my close friends and relatives. During this Christmas season, I ended up making 4 different orders from Amazon for this audio book (orders of 4 copies, then 5 copies and then 3 copies) to use as presents. The price is very little compared to the power contained in this book.

Editorial Review:

You've read John Maxwell's best-selling Winning with People, and now you're ready for some specific action steps to build on the knowledge you gained. 25 Ways to Win With People has just what you need! This complementary companion to the full-sized book is ideal for a quick refresher course on interpersonal relationships.

A small sampling of the twenty-five specific actions readers can take to build positive, healthy relationships includes:

  • Complimenting People in Front of Others
  • Creating a Memory and Visiting It Often
  • Encouraging the Dreams of Others

Editorial Review:

Are you tired of arguing with your spouse over the same old issues? Do you dream of a marriage with less conflict and more intimacy? Are you struggling under a load of resentment?

The key to creating a deeper bond in your marriage
may lie buried in your childhood.

Your early life experiences create an “intimacy imprint”–an underlying blueprint that shapes your behavior, beliefs, and expectations of all future relationships, especially your marriage. In How We Love, relationship experts Milan and Kay Yerkovich help you pinpoint the reason your marriage is struggling–and they reveal exactly what you can do about it.

Drawing on the powerful tool of attachment theory, the Yerkoviches identify four types of injured imprints that combine in marriage to trap couples in a repetitive dance of pain. As you discover how your relationship has been guided by these imprints, you’ll gain the insights you need to stop stepping on each other’s toes and instead allow yourselves to be swept along by the music of a richer, deeper relationship.

Editorial Review:

Covering every issue that affects family life--marriage, parenting, sexuality, communication, social dynamics, and family life in modern society--The Family is a proven comprehensive resource for studying this most established of human institutions. This important study is already well known among college and seminary faculty, pastors, and Christian counselors. It is widely used in sociology, marriage, and family classes around the country. The third edition has been revised and updated throughout to include the results of current research and contemporary trends.

The authors encourage readers to dig deep into Scripture, ever mindful of context, in order to develop a theological basis for family relationships. In considering the meaning of human relationships and family life, the Balswicks are concerned to integrate a biblically based perspective with insights gained from psychological and sociological studies. When dealing with the scriptural texts, however, they avoid the common tendency to gather unconnected passages in order to prove a point. Instead, they explore the implications of four central themes found throughout the Bible: covenant, grace, empowering, and intimacy.

A Balanced Approach 5 out of 5 stars.

Goes beyond the simplistic notion of shallow forgiveness into the real work of repentance and reconciliation. Squares the responsibility between both spouses instead of placing an unfair burden on the spouse who has been betrayed to do all the work necessary for restoration of the relationship.

Not just facts 5 out of 5 stars.

I was ready for a dry book with too many facts and statistics, but this book has been great. I'm only on the first chapter and have learned so much already.

Great book 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book for my best girlfriend when she found out her husband was having an affair. She said it was wonderful and really helped her understand why her husband cheated, what "type" of affair it was, and how to tell if he is likely to do it again.

Editorial Review:

This workbook is an excellent tool for couples to work through and apply the material presented in Torn Asunder. It is organized into daily twenty-minute exercises initiated by each spouse on alternating days. Because this tragic situation is not easily resolved, this workbook is a must to get couples on the road to healing and oneness.
