Not a good book for wives! 1 out of 5 stars.

The Excellent Wife may contain some good, valuable information. However, if you are married, you must not buy into the teaching that we, as wives, have Biblical authority over our husbands. There is not gentle rebuking from wife to husband; there is no room for a wife to stand over her husband in any authority whatsoever at any time in a marriage. Our husbands are our covering, our protection, and our authority-blessed by God and used by God to bless us. Please consider turning to Scripture yourself to see all the amazing truths about marriage rather than reading The Excellent Wife. If you must read a book other than the Bible, please consider "Created to Be His Helpmeet". It is more doctrinally true to what the Bible teaches about marriage and offers much deeper teachings.

We're using this book in a Couples Sunday School Class as a study guide and are working through the chapters and workbook questions together. It's true that more planning goes into the wedding than the marriage. Sooner or later we have to put work into the marriage to make it work and to enjoy the fullness of the union got intended. Well written. Thought provoking.

Having counseled many couples in 25 years of pastoral ministry, I have read several books on marital, interpersonal relationships. The authors present sound principles that are easy for people to understand and to apply. I had a few older favorites I would recommend to couples until reading this book -- now I have a new favorite to share instead!

One of the unique, most admirable qualities of this work is that it is very helpful to persons regardless of their marital status. A single individual will find it helpful for insight during dating. A person who is engaged will find it helpful in identifying issues that are sure to arise within marriage. A newlywed will find it helpful in responding to the major adjustments of sharing his/her life with another person. A person who has been married for several years will find it helpful in understanding how a marriage deepens and grows over the course of time.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone wanting to enhance an upcoming marriage or an existing one. There are accompanying workbooks, one for men and one for women, that are also very helpful. This book is definitely one to own!

This book is amazing. It makes you feel so well equipped in praying for your wife. It also gives you a greater understanding of the way your wife works/thinks and how her priorities are shaped and differ from ours. This a a really good book. It's information shared from a different era but it is still pertainent for today's youth and much needed. In the dateing arena.

I only know of one other person like me in this situation. If we were of the same race except for looks I'd say he was my double. We were even like best friends at one time. So what did we have that was so common? We both wanted a wife. I mean this guy tried and tried and tried more than anyone else I knew except for myself. He had more girls that he hung around as friends than anyone else I knew except for myself. There was one girl that we both liked and she had an outstanding personality as well as good looks. She always treated us both so nice. I think I got the prize as for as time to spend with her. We even ended up living only a block from each other at one time. For eight whole years I hung around this girl hoping and dreaming. At the same time I joined one of those on-line date clubs and wrote over 700 long letters to woman across the USA as well as other parts of the world. In addition to all that I also joined 3 to 4 singles groups. I was so determine that I was going to "make something happen with someone."

It wasn't until I read Elizabeth Elliot's book: "Passion and Purity" that I decided to stop trying and spend more time doing what I do best, playing the piano and writing music. Right after me quite all those groups including hanging out with someone that I was never going to marry that I produced my first CD, "The Wedding Feast." The funny thing is that I performed the CD live in another country 2 years later and met my wife.

What an incredible book! This was required reading for a counseling course but it's purpose served more than that. Roseneau does an incredible job of communicating how beautiful & sacred an intimate relationship with your spouse should be. God created man and woman to please one another in many ways in addition to intercourse and this book does a great job of instructing couples how to deepen their sexual intimacy.This is definitely worth your money! Roseneau also has a Newlywed version and an over 50 version.

My husband and I used this book as part of an 8 week Premarital Counseling course. We both found the book to bring up good topics for discussion though most of them we had discussed before. I would not describe myself as a very religious person but more of a spiritual person with strong Christian beliefs. That said, I found some "opinions" in the book to be narrow minded and that some of the bible passages were taken out of context. I do think that it was a good tool as part of our sessions but don't depend completely on this book for your premarital counseling. We also looked at The 5 Love Languages and Dave Ramsey's book Financial Peace Revisited. Those books as well as the insight from our counselors made all the difference.

This is an expansion of his book Love & Respect, so I recommend listening to/reading that one first, but if you don't he gives a recap. It seems redundant, but the principles are something we all need ingrained into us. My husband and I are a perfect match - we matched on [...] , but our relationship went to a new level while I was listening to these CDs. Eggerichs' principles are straight out of scripture so they work! He sets aside the myths and roles that society has created about men and women and gets back to how God created us to be and to interact. He amazingly does so without offending who we are as women but uplifting us.

I was a little on the fence about this book because I really didnt think it would help. We are not married yet, but this book has helped a lot to see each other out in the open. It has also showed us what the other thinks about us and what we can work on as a couple.

Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts is the pre-marital book and companion workbooks our church uses with all our couples who plan to be married. A "season" couple goes through the book with the engaged couple, meeting many times the 6 months prior to their wedding. This mentoring process has proved to be a wonderful experience for both couples, and times together carry on well past the wedding day. The newlyweds now have a couple that have invested time with them, other than their parents, which has been a blessing to them.
