I was glad that Tyler Perry turned this into an audio book. It is worth every penny to hear him read this as Madea. This is one audio book that you will definitely listen to over and over again. I didn't even consider buying the paperback. I just had to hear Madea tell her story.

So Frikkin Funny! 5 out of 5 stars.

I laughed my behind off reading this book. I love Madea, if you're a fan of Madea as I am, you'll love this book. It's full of her VERY uninhibited commentaries on her life. Hilarious.

Editorial Review:

Unabridged CDs - 4 CDs, 5 hours

The bestselling first book from the creative force known as Tyler Perry: a confessional memoir in the voice of Madea-the beloved, sharp-tongued, worldly-wise, pistol-packing grandma who is at the center of his popular stage shows and the star of his number-one hit movie, Diary of a Mad Black Woman.

Editorial Review:

Ali G: How many words does you know?

Noam Chomsky: Normally, humans, by maturity, have tens of thousands of them.

Ali G: What is some of 'em?

— Youtube.com After forty years of making a living using words in every medium, print or electronic, except greeting cards, Roy Blount Jr. still can’t get over his ABCs. In Alphabet Juice, he celebrates the juju, the sonic and kinetic energies of letters and their combinations. Blount does not prescribe proper English. The franchise he claims is “over the counter” and concentrates more on questions such as these: Did you know that both mammal and matter derive from baby talk? Have you noticed how wince makes you wince?

Three and a half centuries ago, Sir Thomas Blount produced Blount’s Glossographia, the first dictionary to explore derivations of English words. This Blount’s Glossographia takes that pursuit to other levels. It rejects the standard linguistic notion that the connection between words and their meanings is “arbitrary.” Even the word arbitrary is shown to be no more arbitrary, at its roots, than go-to guy or crackerjack. From sources as venerable as the OED (in which Blount finds an inconsistency, at whisk) and as fresh as Urbandictionary.com (to which Blount has contributed the number-one definition of “alligator arm”), and especially from the author’s own wide-ranging experience, Alphabet Juice derives an organic take on language that is unlike, and more fun than, any other.

Editorial Review:

Great comedy and a good deal, this new gift set gathers three timeless Carlin recordings including two Grammy® winners.

If one George Carlin audio is funny, then two are funnier and three must be funniest, right? That's our thinking behind this new collection. It's a HighBridge library of laugh-out-loud, award-winning recordings featuring George himself performing many of his best bits. His latest book will be out this fall. Warm up with these hilarious classics--and enjoy serious savings. The set includes:

Brain Droppings. Acerbic observations, manic musings, in-your-face questions, witty work play, and more "droppings" from Carlin's singular brain. "I put a dollar in a change machine. Nothing changed." "e;Why are there no recreational drugs taken in suppository form?" The first Carlin book on audio and a 2001 Grammy® winner.

Napalm & Silly Putty. Carlin invents Past-Tense TV ("Got Smart," "Father Knew Best," "It Was Left to Bever"), crusades for the Center for Research into the Heebie Jeebies, founds the George Carlin Book Club (recommended reading: Fill Your Life with Croutons), and suggest that "If the shoe fits, get another just like it." A 2002 Grammy® winner.

More Napalm & Silly Putty. Everything that wouldn't fit on the first Napalm recording--like "A Day in the Life of Henry VIII," "Sports Should Be Fixed," compelling confessions ("I couldn't commit suicide if my life depended on it"), and candid takes on life's little moments ("I'm beyond the nice day"), all delivered with wicked glee.

Brilliant from start to finish 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I will try to be as unbiased as possible, but it should be known that John Hodgman cut my face with a broken bottle during a disagreement over whether one should be allowed to flip over any Scrabble tile and then consider it to be a "blank." He was down 754-30, and tensions were high. I take some responsibility for provoking Mr. Hodgman with sing-song nursery rhymes intended to raise questions about his virility and ancestry.

That said, this book is one of the best-conceived, fully realized humor tours de force I have ever read. Even parts that I thought would be tedious -- such as his guide to all fifty states, or the complete list of 700 hobo names -- turned out to be unrelentingly hilarious.

So I wear my scar proudly, John Hodgman, because I must admit after reading this book: It was doled out by the better man.

Editorial Review:

With his Daily Show appearances and his "I'm a PC" Apple ads, John Hodgman has only become more famous since the hardcover edition of his all-you-need compendium of facts, The Areas of My Expertise was released. He has also become smarter. To reflect this, the paperback edition of The Areas of My Expertise has been expanded to include 100 new hobo names and new, additional complete world knowledge. John Hodgman and his fur-hatted associate, Jonathan, have prepared an exclusive video for Amazon customers explaining the above.

Great Listening! You won't stop laughing! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

We first heard Stuart McLean on a CD of Christmas music. We had to listen to his story 3 times straight becuase we all laughed so hard and loud we would miss parts of the story. This CD has that story, "Polly Anderson's Christmas Party." In addition, when you listen to the other stories before "Polly" then you will get some of the content of this story. Every story from beginning to end is a HOOT! We listen to his stories over and over again. They are just as good the 5th time around as they were the first. We bought all his other CD's, as well. Highly recommended!

Everyone laughs 5 out of 5 stars.

We heard Polly Anderson's Christmas Party first on a CD of Christmas music belonging to one of our college age daughters, then bought this out of curiosity. I loved it, my husband loved it, our daughters loved it, and my mother-in-law loved it. I even lent it to a co-worker who needed a good laugh and he loved it. Keep it in your car for a sure-fire mood-lifter on your way home from a hard day at the office as Dave and Morley navigate the trials of parenthood. Suitable for family listening.

Editorial Review:

Originally drawn to the game by his father, Carl Hiaasen wisely quit golfing in 1973. But some ambitions refuse to die, and as the years and memories of shanked 7-irons faded, it dawned on Carl that there might be one thing in life he could do better in middle age than he could as a youth. So gradually he ventured back to the dreaded driving range, this time as the father of a five-year-old son and also as a grandfather.

What possesses a man to return in midlife to a game at which he d never excelled in his prime, and which in fact had dealt him mostly failure, angst and exasperation? Here s why I did it: I m one sick bastard. And thus we have Carl s foray into a world of baffling titanium technology, high-priced golf gurus, bizarre infomercial gimmicks and the mind-bending phenomenon of Tiger Woods; a maddening universe of hooks and slices where Carl ultimately and foolishly agrees to compete in a country-club tournament against players who can actually hit the ball. That s the secret of the sport s infernal seduction, he writes. It surrenders just enough good shots to let you talk yourself out of quitting.

Hiaasen s chronicle of his shaky return to this bedeviling pastime and the ensuing demolition of his self-esteem culminating with the savage 45-hole tournament will have you rolling with laughter. Yet the bittersweet memories of playing with his own father and the glow he feels when watching his own young son belt the ball down the fairway will also touch your heart. Forget Tiger, Phil and Ernie. If you want to understand the true lure of golf, turn to Carl Hiaasen, who offers an extraordinary audiobook for the ordinary hacker.

Me of Little Faith 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Lewis Black has a self described "potty mouth" and he uses it in this audio book. I'm not offended by the religious humor - that is what I expected but I think I would have enjoyed the reading more if someone else had performed it or if he had skipped the worst of the profanity. I've not heard anything by him before so I didn't know what to expect except when I'd seen on Larry King. I must say that I laughed a lot at his description of many TV Evangelists! And he did have one religion he liked - you have to listen to find out which one.

hysterical!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Totally hysterical. I love it.
I'd marry Lewis Black if I could meet him.
I'd live an extra 20 years just from the benefits of his humor.

He does it again 5 out of 5 stars.

Lewis Black does it again. He may step on a few(?) toes but he tells it like it is, something our goverment has a problem doing.

Your library has 10 copies of this book--guarenteed! 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

If you must: I suggest your local library. That, or you could buy it used. They are currently selling used copies of the hard back for one cent.

That's about all it's worth. Her information is fair, but her attitude is horrible. She insults every facet of the very audience that is asking her for help.

It gets folks fired up, doesn't it? 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My punctuation is definitely not perfect, but I enjoyed "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" a lot because I too am frustrated by the insanity that has writers putting an apostrophe before the "s" in any word ending in that letter! Drives me batty! I believe that the author has toungue planted firmly in cheek and found myself laughing all the way through her book. I am glad that even in punctuation, humor can be found.

It also heightened my awareness of "writing right" and made me want to do a better job of using reference guides to understand why things are done as they are, instead of just going by the seat of my pants and "I think it looks right, oh I'll just throw in some more commas."

Editorial Review:

A New York Times Bestseller

In 2002 Lynne Truss presented a well-received BBC Radio 4 series about punctuation which led to the writing of Eats, Shoots & Leaves. The book became a runaway success in the UK, hitting number one on the bestseller lists and prompting extraordinary headlines such as "Grammar Book Tops Bestseller List" (BBC News). With over a half million copies in print in England, Truss is ready to rally the troops on this side of the pond with her rousing cry, "Sticklers unite!"

Available only in Core 7.
