Editorial Review:

Saturday Night Live changed the face of television: it introduced brash new stars, trashed TV taboos, and had an impact on American life, laughter, and politics.

Dozens of stars, writers, guest hosts, contributors, and craftsmen (as read by professional narrators) recall the backstage stories, behind-the-scenes gossip, feuds, foibles, drugs, sex, struggles, and calamities, including personal details never before revealed. Stars interviewed include Mike Meyers, Chris Rock, Bill Murray, Tom Hanks, Adam Sandler, Chevy Chase, Will Ferrell, Dan Aykroyd, Steve Martin, Jon Lovitz, Jane Kattan, Julie Louis-Dreyfus, Garrett Morris, Molly Shannon, Damon Wayans, Chris Elliott, Julie Sweeney, Norm Macdonald, and Paul Simon—plus writers like Al Franken, Conan O'Brien, Larry David, Rosie Shuster, Jack Handey, Robert Smigel, Don Novello, and others who got their big breaks as part of the SNL team.

Live from New York does what no other book about the show has ever done: It lets the people who were there tell the story in their own words, blunt and loving and uncensored.

The Indignities of Coach Class, the Torments of Low Thread Count, the Never-Ending Quest for Artisanal Olive Oil, and Other First World Problems

David Rakoff’s collection of autobiographical essays, Fraud, established him as one of our funniest, most insightful writers. In Don’t Get Too Comfortable, Rakoff journeys into the land of plenty that is contemporary North America. Rarely have greed, vanity, selfishness, and vapidity been so mercilessly and wittily portrayed.

Whether contrasting the elegance of one of the last flights of the supersonic Concorde with the good times and chicken wings of Hooters Air, portraying the rarified universe of Paris fashion shows where an evening dress can cost as much as four years of college, or traveling to a private island off the coast of Belize to watch a soft-core Playboy TV shoot, where he is provided with his very own personal manservant, David Rakoff takes us on a bitingly funny grand tour of our culture of excess, delving into the manic getting and spending that defines the North American way of life.

Somewhere along the line, our healthy self-regard has exploded into obliterating narcissism, and Rakoff is there to map that frontier. He sits through the grotesqueries of “avant garde” vaudeville in Times Square immediately following 9/11. Twenty days without food allows him to experience firsthand the wonders of “detoxification,” and the frozen world of cryonics, whose promise of eternal life is the ultimate status symbol, leaves him very cold indeed (much to our good fortune).

At once a Wildean satire of our ridiculous culture of overconsumption and a plea for a little human decency, Don’t Get Too Comfortable is a bitingly funny grand tour of our special circle of gilded-age hell.

STILL HAVE IT! 5 out of 5 stars.

I have a had an old paperback copy of this for 20 years now, so this copy is just a "newer version". I fell in love with MT as a result of this work that I originally read in 1984, and have not taken religion, or anything about it seriously since! It doesn't get any better then this!

Editorial Review:

Letters from the Earth is a collection of short stories written during a downtrodden period in Twain's life and published posthumously. Here we see Twain on a somewhat personal level. Penniless and having just lost his wife and one of his children, Twain turns to writing about God, Christianity, and the many curious natures of man. This collection was so controversial that his daughter prohibited its publication until 52 years after his death. "Twain sentimentalists will gasp, Bible-belters will turn purple, austere stylistic purists will raise eyebrows--but dyed-in-the-wool Twain enthusiasts will grab hungrily for what amounts to a new volume by the 'Lincoln of our literature.' ...The pages in this volume range from furious to funny, from deadly earnestness to frothy wordplay."--Library Journal

Hilarious - like the Southern Belle version of Sedaris or Barry 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I am not a Southern Belle, nor do I have much hope of ever becoming one, living as I do in Northern California! But this book made me just a tiny bit jealous for the sense and sensibilities of the True Southern Lady - at least, those who are as snarky and fun as Rivenbark.

She tackles such diverse issues as gay men turning straight, little girls' sleepovers, and Harry Potter Vs Nancy Drew.

Reading this book is like spending an excellent boozy evening with your sassiest girlfriend, watching movies and dishing about anything and everything. Get it. You'll love it.

Editorial Review:

No matter what side of the Mason-Dixon line you live on,  you will find Celia Rivenbark's hilarious observations about Southern living as easy as a tall drink of sweet tea on a hundred degree day. In this latest collection of laugh-out-loud essays, you'll experience:*The joys of Remodeling Tara*Harry Potter Bitch-slaps Nancy Drew*Britney's To Do List: Pick Okra, Cover That Thang Up*How Rugby-playing Lesbians Torpedoed Beach Day*Why French Women Suck at Competitive Eating*The Truth About Nature Deficit Disorder *The difference between cockroaches and water bugs*The beauty of Bedazzlers*And much, much more!

Editorial Review:

Ellen DeGeneres published her first book of comic essays, the #1 bestselling My Point...and I Do Have One, way back in 1996. Not one to rest on her laurels, the witty star of stage and screen has since dedicated her life to writing a hilarious new book. That book is this audiobook.

After years of painstaking, round-the-clock research, surviving on a mere twenty minutes of sleep a night, and collaborating with lexicographers, plumbers, and mathematicians, DeGeneres has crafted a work that is both easy on the ears and very funny. Along with her trademark ramblings, The Funny Thing Is...contains hundreds of succinct insights into her psyche, and offers innovative features including:

• More than 50,000 simple, short words arranged in sentences that form paragraphs.

• Thousands of observations on everyday life -- from terrible fashion trends to how to handle seating arrangements for a Sunday brunch with Paula Abdul, Diane Sawyer, and Eminem.

• All twenty-six letters of the alphabet read aloud.

Sure to make you laugh, The Funny Thing Is...is Ellen in top form.

I was glad that Tyler Perry turned this into an audio book. It is worth every penny to hear him read this as Madea. This is one audio book that you will definitely listen to over and over again. I didn't even consider buying the paperback. I just had to hear Madea tell her story.

So Frikkin Funny! 5 out of 5 stars.

I laughed my behind off reading this book. I love Madea, if you're a fan of Madea as I am, you'll love this book. It's full of her VERY uninhibited commentaries on her life. Hilarious.

Editorial Review:

Unabridged CDs - 4 CDs, 5 hours

The bestselling first book from the creative force known as Tyler Perry: a confessional memoir in the voice of Madea-the beloved, sharp-tongued, worldly-wise, pistol-packing grandma who is at the center of his popular stage shows and the star of his number-one hit movie, Diary of a Mad Black Woman.

Editorial Review:

He's the inventor of Past-Tense TV (featuring "Got Smart," "Father Knew Best," and "It Was Left to Beaver"); the tireless crusader for such charities as the Center for Research into the Heebie Jeebies, Children of Parents with Bad Teeth, and the State Hospital for Those Who Felt All Right About a Year Ago; founder of the George Carlin Book Club (top titles: "How to Act Laid-Back During a Grease Fire," "Fill Your Life with Croutons," and "The Meaning of Corn"); and the only social commentator with the guts to point out that "the day after tomorrow is the third day of the rest of your life."

Yes, George Carlin is back with more of what he does better than any other comic today: uproarious observations, laser-targeted crankiness, linguistic legerdemain, and inspired weirdness. ("If the shoe fits, get another just like it." "When you sneeze, all the numbers in your head go up by one.") Napalm & Silly Putty is just what his fans have been waiting for—another generous helping of notions, nonsense, assertions, assumptions, mockery, merriment, silliness, sarcasm, and, to be sure, plenty of disturbing references and toxic alienation. George wouldn't have it any other way.

"Tales from the Dad side" is the best there is! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I just finished a long ride from Tennessee to New Jersey and listened to Steve Doocy's book "Tales from the Dad side". As a son, father and husband Steve's book touched me in so many ways that when I finished it I felt satisfied. So many of his chapters were so spot on it felt like I had written this book. The chapters on sex made me laugh the most because my mom educated me the same way. I took my brother to give me the real information. You have to read or listen to know what I mean. I would recommend this to any father who could use a good laugh and to any wife looking to buy her man a book that he will really read and enjoy

Editorial Review:

Dear Prospective Audiobook Buyers,!

Publishing types tell me if you're reading this it means you're looking for a reason to buy this audiobook.

What you're holding in your hands is a very funny and sometimes remarkably poignant look at fathers from the dad's side. Which is why it's called Tales from the Dad Side.

It's filled with stories of what it's been like as a dad and a son, from a child's first day of kindergarten, the awkward sex talk, right up to the day the always practical dad tries to pay for college with bonus miles. As children get older, the lessons of the father get harder. The truth is, fatherhood is like Wikipedia, some parts based in fact, others just made up along the way. And while bookstores are filled with tales of mothers, their children, and families, there are so few from the dad's side. Now as a public service, I'm doing my part to right this wrong.

Editorial Review:

The funniest and most popular sportswriter in America abandons his desk at Sports Illustrated to caddy for some of the world’s most famous golfers, and some celebrity duffers, recounting it all in this hilarious and revealing look at the world of golf.

Who knows a golfer best? Who’s with them every minute of every round, hears their muttering, knows whether they cheat? Their caddies, of course. So sportswriter Rick Reilly figured that he could learn a lot about the players and their games by caddying, even though he had absolutely no idea how to do it. Amazingly, some of the best golfers in the world—including Jack Nicklaus, David Duval, Tom Lehman, John Daly, Casey
Martin, and Jill McGill—agreed to let Reilly carry their bags at actual PGA and LPGA Tour events. To round out his portrait of the golfing life, Reilly also caddied at the Masters, persuaded Deepak Chopra and Donald Trump to use him as a caddy, accompanied high-rolling golf hustlers in Las Vegas around the course, and carried the bag for a blind golfer.

In Who’s Your Caddy?, Reilly chronicles his experiences in the same inimitable style that makes his back-page column for Sports Illustrated a must-read for more than twenty million people every week. From his laugh-out-loud portrait of Deepak Chopra decomposing on the green, to his portraits of good ol’ boys who bet $100,000 a round, to his hilarious descriptions of his own ineptitude as a caddy, to his insights into what
makes the greats of golf so great, Reilly combines a wicked wit with an expert’s eye in a most original and entertaining look at golf.

Who’s Your Caddy? is the next best thing to a great round of golf. It is sure to delight low-handicappers, high-handicappers, and everyone in between.

Go Places You'll Otherwise Never See 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Only the privileged few, whether by the level of their bank account or their skill at the game, have the chance to fully experience every kind of wonder the game of golf has to offer. The rest of us have a new second-choice option: living vicariously through David Wood.

Wood went to places most of us would never dream about visiting, let alone lugging our clubs to. His journey is not a story of golf courses but of golf culture. What motivates us to play we find shared by golfers he encounters in remote southern South America or in the jungles of Vietnam or in economically devastated Zimbabwe. Like any memorable golf round, he shares with us stories of triumph over long odds and unanticipated pitfalls. He also uses his keen observational skills developed as a professional comedian to often make the people he encountered on his journey gain a sharp edge in the reader's mind.

Any true golf fan will be jealous of Wood's experience and, at the same time, glad that he took the journey that he did. There's a lot more to golf than most of us know firsthand from our own little corners of the world or from watching the Golf Channel. Wood's book has the ability to both broaden your golfing horizons and brighten your day.

Editorial Review:

At forty-seven, David Wood sold everything he owned and set out to fulfill every golfer’s dream: For one year, he traveled the world (covering sixty thousand miles and every continent except Antarctica) by plane, boat, train, motorcycle, and rickshaw, to play the game he loves in the most exotic locales, including the world’s highest, driest, hottest, coldest, and most remote golf courses, and lived to tell the tale.

Along the way, he met a bevy of fascinating characters, including surly cabbies, taxi drivers with a death wish, welcoming golf-course managers, threatening kangaroos, and golf pros out for a quick game. David faced dire situations, such as bouts of food poisoning in India and Egypt, altitude sickness in Argentina, getting booted out of the Ukraine by armed guards, and muddling about with limited language skills. But through it all he maintained a sense of humor and, of course, his passion for golf, which he played every chance he got.
