Disappointed with the book 1 out of 5 stars.
18 of 21 people found this review helpful.

I am returning this book because I was disappointed with it. For $50 I was expecting more information than this book has. The publisher's description mentions that there are over 300 pages of information... well, the font is large and the screen shots take up half of a page. The information presented is not much different than you would find with the less expensive guides to quickbooks. And the payroll chapter is worthless, it suggests you might as well outsource your payroll because you might make a mistake!

Editorial Review:

The 2004 and 2005 QuickBooks® for Not-for-Profit Organizations workbook is a 470 page book providing detailed step-by-step instructions on how to use QuickBooks in a Not-for-Profit environment. The Not-for-Profit book will help your organization use QuickBooks properly and provide management with the data needed to make informed decisions. The book includes methods for setting up and using QuickBooks in a Not-for-Profit organization, addressing the needs of management, boards of directors, grantors, and the IRS Form 990. From how to handle grants and contracts, to managing proposals, tracking funding sources, recording in-kind transactions, bank reconciliations, allocations, budgets, and restricted funds, this book has everything you need to get up and running with QuickBooks. Also included is an expanded section on Reports & Graphs. This is the second edition of the book - the first book covered version 2002 of QuickBooks and is used in Not-for-Profit firms across the country.

Best Book I've Seen for QB Pro 2002 4 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Janet Horn's textbook is the best I have seen in my years of teaching Quick Books Pro. This is a tutorial text, meaning that YOU, the student, have lots of work to do. The instructions are usually clear and concise and VERY easy to follow. An "end of chapter" exercise allows you to see what you learned in the chapter by working without a tutorial other than what was in the chapter. This book contains many screen shots, some of which are not correct, but all of which demonstrate the process of using the book. I've taught accounting for 18 years and have taught computerized accounting for approximately 10 years.

Editorial Review:

Quickbook Pro 2002 and Student CD provides training in using one of the best-selling computerized accounting programs available for small-to-mid-sized businesses—QuickBooks 2002, QuickBooks Pro 2002, and QuickBooks Premier 2002. This comprehensive book contains visually-oriented chapters that are interrelated so users can see the full effect of transactions for the accounting cycle in service and merchandising businesses, as well as payroll and company creation. The volume provides an introduction to computers and QuickBooks Pro and details sales and receivables, payables and purchases and general accounting and end-of-period procedures in the service and merchandising businesses, as well as payroll and computerizing a manual accounting system. For Accounting Clerks, Accountants and Bookkeepers.
