Half-right, with Some Good Insights 3 out of 5 stars.

Johnston has some good suggestions on the important topic of practicing, especially helping students with time management issues, and the importance being absolutely clear in their weekly assignments. But I think the author is too quick to recommend too many games, with their tendency to distract students from the joy and responsibility of making music.

He's very weak in the area of solving technical problems and memorization issues with MUSICAL solutions. "Hear it, Visualize it, Play it" seem to be not in his vocabulary.

Overall -- too wordy, to mechanistic, not sufficiently musical in its approach.

This book provides a good model and checklist for program planning. We used it in my Program Planning class and it helped streamline the processess used to make new programs in my company.

This book is 1/3 listings of movies and other such irrelevant nonsense.

The editing information may have been relevant several years ago, but is now completely and totally dated.

Certainly readable, but completely vapid.

I have been using entry-level NLEs (e.g. Vegas Movie Studio, Pinnacle Studio, Magix Movie Edit Pro) for about four years. Any progress in my editing skills came from the traditional 'trial and error' approach, and from learning by watching other amateur-produced movies in a video club that I belong to...

"Editing Digital Video" helped me learn new techniques and approachs to editing my movies. Suggestions on how to get organized, good definitions & explanations of editing jargon, and the included footage for an editing exercise all help you take your editing up a notch to produce better movies.

The book is text-heavy---I would like to have seen more illustrations, and possibly a professionally editing version (or two) of the editing exercise. Highly recommended.

Developing the skill to conduct workshops and seminars requires a lot of time and effort, but it can lead to an exciting professional life and eventually pay huge dividends. Learning to gain an audience's rapt attention takes dedication and practice, but giving a seminar or workshop is a very effective way to sell your product, service or expertise. Robert L. Jolles offers tips for translating your special knowledge into a seminar or workshop presentation, from organizing your material to getting the right coaching to handling challenging characters from the audience. getAbstract recommends this useful guide; it's a quick course in Professional Skills 101.

This is a well written text on the topic of behavior management. It offers numerous examples to support the theories mentioned. It is an informative read for teachers and parents alike, and offers tangible solutions.
