Editorial Review:

A nicely structured, lightly acidic addition to the handy Snob’s Dictionary series, decoding the baffling world of winespeak from A to Z.

Wine Snob. The very phrase seems redundant, doesn't it? When faced with this snobbiest of snobberies, the civilian wine enthusiast needs the help of savvy translators like David Kamp and David Lynch. Their Wine Snob’s Dictionary delivers witty explication of both old-school oeno-obsessions (What's claret? Who's Michael Broadbent?) and such new-wave terms as "malolactic fermentation" and "fruit bomb." Among the other things Kamp and Lynch demystify:

Finish: the Snob code-term for "aftertaste." (Robert Parker includes the stopwatch-measured length of a wine's finish in his ratings.)

Meritage: an American wine classification that rhymes with "heritage," and should NEVER be pronounced "meri-TAHJ."

Terroir: that elusive quality of vineyard soil that has sommeliers talking of "gunflint," "leather," and "candied fruits"

Featuring ripe, luscious, full-bodied illustrations by Snob's Dictionary stalwart Ross MacDonald, The Wine Snob’s Dictionary is as heady and sparkling as a vintage Taittinger, only much less expensive... and much more giggle-inducing. Cheers!

Editorial Review:

The connection between inflammation and heart disease, arthritis, and other chronic ailments has become increasingly clear. Many food allergies and poor dietary choices over stimulate the immune system and cause inflammatory responses that erode the body’s wellness and pave the path for ill health. Based on her naturopathic practice, Jessica Black has devised a complete program for how to eat and cook to minimize and even prevent inflammation and its consequences. The first part of the book explains the benefits of the anti-inflammatory diet with an accessible discussion of the science behind it. The second half contains 108 recipes. The author offers many substitution suggestions and includes a healthy ingredient tip with each recipe. Most of the dishes can be prepared quickly and easily by even novice cooks. A week of sample menus for summer months and another for winter are included, as well as a substitutions chart, allowing readers to modify their favorite recipes to increase their healing potential.

You are what you eat 5 out of 5 stars.
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

This book is well Brilliant! I started cooking things I never used before. I have dropped 20 pounds in 2 weeks and feel 100% better. My husband even started to eat some of my meals. The conversions charts for farenheit and the metric system are easy enough to print out on the net so not a problem there. The British words for some vegetables were easily looked up on the net too. Invest in a set of scales that weighs grams and ounces and you are set. My only problem is that the portions are way to big for me, so I always cut everything in 1/2 or 1/4. Remember this is a life style change; not a fad diet. Gillian also has menus that are designed for Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.

Some recipes contain items that are hard to find 4 out of 5 stars.

I love Gillian McKeith's program "You Are What You Eat" and decided that many of the recipes suggested to the participants of that show made sense. The only problem is that unless you live close to a large, well-stocked grocery store or health food store, chances are most of the recipes will do you little good.

I don't live in the middle of nowhere, but finding millet (used in many recipes) is almost impossible. Mung beans? Nope. Tahini sauce? Not at my supermarket. I use the overall idea of healthy eating espoused by the cookbook and make many substitutions. Unfortunately, that sort of defeats the purpose of the cookbook. I can't follow the recipes exactly.

To get an overall idea of what this cookbook contains, and before you buy, go to the UK's Channel 4 website for You Are What You Eat (just do a Google search) and take a look at the sample recipes. There are lots of them; you might be better off trying the recipes at the site before getting the cookbook.

Dissatisfied 1 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I am very unhappy with this product. The tabs that identify the vegetable categories are hard to recognize, and they don't stay in place. The recipe sections are hard to get in and out of the box. Almost all of the recipes call for at least one or more hard-to-find or expensive ingredients. I have made 5 of the recipes, and I would rate them as only fair, not particularly tasty. Overall, it's an expensive product, and the recipes call for many unusual ingredients. I wish I had not bought it.

Editorial Review:

300 ways to make cooking and eating vegetables interesting in this fun format--a truly unique product.

Each book corresponds to two vegetables and an additional feature of the box are the dividers which separate the books - each has a list of recipes contained in the corresponding book for quick reference.

Extra Point BBQ Rub - the best! 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I made the extra point barbecue rub and it was delicious. I've used it on ribs and pork chops, it's been great on both! My other favorite was the Midfield BBQ Sauce, it's made with V-8 juice (I use the spicy hot), yum-yum.

The menus are geared toward the names of the teams. For example, the food suggested for an Arizona Cardinals game is suited for the southwest cuisine. So all food suggested is grilled avocados, catfish tacos, loaded cornbread casserole, etc.

The food suggested for a Chicago Bears game is Italian Sausage Soup, Tofu eggless egg salad sandwiches and lettuce wedge salad. There are also other suggested appetizers, desserts, entrees, etc.

The menu suggested for a Minnesota Vikings game is baked brie with chutney and bacon, BBQ shrimp toast, and grilled tuna sandwiches and chipotle. Certainly not your typical tail gate food.

The Cincinnati Bengals page talked all about the Cincinnati chili that Cincy is famous for...but then didn't provide a recipe for it. A true gameday party would have "3 way's" available.

The mac and cheese soup was awesome. We just loved it.

There are limited pictures, 16 or so in the center of the book so you don't get much guidance for presentation or what the finished dish should look like. The pages are thick and glossy so book would make a great gift. I agree with the other reviewer that if you can get the original game day family cookbook, it's got more recipes that 80's tailgaters would be more familiar with. These are good just for a new generation.

I tried the BBQ fruit rub but couldn't get anyone to eat it. I don't know if the proportions are correct in the cookbook but it was way too much nutmeg for our tastes so the kids just preferred the plain fruit. Perhaps I made it wrong or our tastes were not prepared for the nutmeg.

There are also menus (appetizer, entrees and desserts) with all recipes provided for Draft Day, Opening Day, Super Bowl, and Pro Bowl. There are also drink recipes provided. It's truly a complete gameday cookbook.

Overall a good cookbook and a great gift. But don't expect the tried and true tailgate recipes you'd expect, get the NFL family cookbook for that. Then add this cookbook for the more modern recipes with a flair.

If you want checklists and other tailgating tips check out the website www.tailgating.com it's a great website.

Editorial Review:

The fans are roaring, the pigskin is flying, and only one thing is missing . . .grub. Acclaimed author Ray "Dr. BBQ" Lampe has created this cookbook specifically for NFL fans, with delicious recipes easy enough for the novice chef and also designed to travel to the game. Although most recipes center around the tailgater's sacred grill, the cookbook also includes sections on sandwiches, side dishes, desserts, and refreshing drinks. With photos of memorable NFL moments and 150 delicious recipes, like Bloody Mary Chicken Wings and Whiskey-Marinated Rib-eye Steaks, this game day cookbook ensures that the chef will be the star of this year's Super Bowl party.

Great Recipes! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

So far everything I have tried has been great! The recipes are very clear and easy. I like that it doesn't plan out every meal for you, you get to just look through and pick what you want. Works perfect for me even though I am only cooking for two. I can adjust the meal portions as I see fit which means I can make extra and pack for lunch the next day. We have saved a lot of money not having to go out and buy lunch everyday. It is also easy to make the recipes as healthy as possible by just using low fat low sodium ingredients. I am getting this book as a gift for family members for Christmas! I recommend it to everyone!

Editorial Review:
