Editorial Review:

If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle....

These are the words of ancient Chinese philosopher Sun Tzu, whose now-classic treatise, The Art of War, was written more than 2,500 years ago. Originally a text for victory on the battlefield, the book has vastly transcended its original purpose.

Here is a seminal work on the philosophy of successful leadership that is as applicable to contemporary business as it is to war. Today many leading American business schools use the text as required reading for aspiring managers, and even Oliver Stone's award-winning film Wall Street cites The Art of War as a guide to those who strive for success.

Now acclaimed novelist James Clavell, for whom Sun Tzu's writing has been an inspiration, gives us a newly edited Art of War. Author of the best-selling Asian saga consisting of Shogun, Tai-Pan, Gai-jin, King Rat, Noble House, and Whirlwind, Clavell first heard about Sun Tzu in Hong Kong in 1977, and since then The Art Of War has been his constant companion--he refers to it frequently in Noble House. He has taken a 1910 translation of the book and clarified it for the contemporary reader. This new edition of The Art Of War is an extraordinary book made even more relevant by an extraordinary editor.

Awesome info... more than you need for your own meds... geared 2 Mass Producers 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Way too much info on how to grow 100 plants a month. I feel illegal just thinking about it.
I am just a normal person, Card Carrying Medical Marijuana Pt, who can't afford the $300 - $500 a month for Med grade Cannabis. ( My Pharm Meds are $1200... but my insurance Co. pays that scam! ). The Cannabis works ALLOT better!
I want to grow 1 plant every 3 months, like 99% of the legit patients. I would destroy any excess I overproduced... personally.

Obviously, this Author is beyond expert and is an authority on the subject. I would love a Medical Growers Bible for your "PERSONAL" Med crop. With a strict recommendation for personal use only. If you sell ANY, you are just a dealer... so, keep it clean... is the book " I " want. My personal opinion.
Regardless of your personal view.... respect the spirit of the law and intent of the society and community you live in. It is the flow.
Freedom Rocks!
215 and 420 set the rules. Just follow them and every one is happy.

Editorial Review:

With 512 full color pages and 1120 full color photographs and illustrations, Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower's Bible is the most complete cultivation book available. The Fifth Edition of the former Indoor Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor Bible was originally published in 1983, when it immediately became a best seller. More than 500,000 copies of the Indoor Bible are in print in Dutch, English, French, German and Spanish. New greenhouse and outdoor growing chapters make this a book both indoor and outdoor growers will keep under thumb. The other 15 chapters (17 total) are all updated with the most current information, completely rewritten and significantly expanded. For example, Dr. John McPartland contributed an all new medical section - The books credits list more than 300 contributors and reads like a who's who in the world of cannabis cultivation.

Editorial Review:

When Oxford's Atlas of the World appeared last year, it was widely praised for the incredible beauty and accuracy of its maps and for its wealth of geographical information. Booklist hailed it as "one of the most current atlases available today" and singled out its "well-designed format and superior use of map colors." And John Noble Wilford, writing in The New York Times Book Review, called it a veritable encyclopedia of geographic information, underscoring its "greater variety of maps and the inclusion of so much noncartographic information" and adding that "those old staples of geography textbooks--fossil fuel reserves, steel production, literacy standings--never looked more inviting of further study."
But world politics has been especially volatile in recent years, producing numerous changes to the face of the globe. To bring our Atlas of the World completely up to date, Oxford now announces a new Second Edition, with dozens of significant alterations to the maps of Europe, Africa, South America, and the Middle East. For instance, the Atlas now shows the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Macedonia; it redraws the boundary between Saudia Arabia and Iraq; and it displays new administrative divisions in Nigeria. The new maps also reveal extensive updating of finer details such as the latest Trans-Amazonian highways, a new reservoir south of Bamako, Mali, and the Guri Reservoir in Venezuela. And the index has been completely revised to reflect all these changes.
Of course, the basic qualities of the Atlas--the exquisite mapmaking and the wealth of supplemental information--are as superb as ever. As in the original edition, readers will find hundreds of outstanding, full-color maps produced by Europe's finest cartographers, George Philip Ltd. The heart of the book is the 160-page section of large-scale world maps, providing detailed political and topographical information about every nation on Earth, enhanced by relief shading and layer-colored contours. There are also 66 city maps charting the key urban centers of each continent. The 75,000-entry index offers easy, convenient access to specific locations, with full geographical coordinates and a convenient number-letter access system. And the stunning 48-page Introduction to World Geography section--beautifully illustrated with lavish color maps, graphs, and diagrams--offers a systematic look at world geography, covering topics such as climate, the greenhouse effect, plate tectonics, agriculture, health, population and migration, international organizations, global conflicts, and much more.
Exquisitely designed, thoroughly updated, and packed with informative articles, graphs, and charts, Oxford's Atlas of the World offers the finest global coverage available. It is the benchmark by which all other international map references will be measured.

Editorial Review:

The inspiring journey of world-class hero Lance Armstrong, from the dark night of advanced cancer through his dramatic victory in the 1999 Tour de France, and beyond.

In 1996, twenty-four-year-old Lance Armstrong was ranked the number-one cyclist in the world. But that October, "The Golden Boy of American Cycling" was sidelined by excruciating pain. Tests revealed advanced testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain. His chance for recovery was as low as twenty percent.

Armstrong embarked on the most aggressive form of chemotherapy available and underwent surgery to remove cancer that the treatments couldn't reach. Five months after his diagnosis, he resumed training under a cloud of uncertainty, and the path back to competition wasn't smooth. It took a ride with friends through the mountains of North Carolina for Armstrong to rediscover his genuine love of the sport, and to rededicate himself to its pursuit.

Scarred physically and emotionally, Lance Armstrong considered his cancer "a special wake-up call," one that crystallized for him the blessings of good health, family, friends, and marriage. In October 1999, just months after his astonishing triumph in the Tour, his wife, Kristin, gave birth to their son, Luke David Armstrong.

Filled with the nutritional, physical, emotional, and spiritual details of his recovery, It's Not About the Bike traces the wondrous journey of one of America's greatest athletes to a singularly inspiring appreciation of life lived to the fullest.

Kindle Version 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I can only echo the praise that others have submitted regarding "A Student's Guide to Maxwell's Equations." My comments are targeted at how it looks on the Kindle Reader.

The text rendering seems crisp and readable throughout, though the imaging of the equations are sometimes too small that the subscripts are difficult to read. (Locations 126-31) The text can be scaled nicely through six choices, but the images of the equations do not.

Tables lack contrast. (Locations 179-182)

The first of many boxed question marks, [?], begin at locations 232-40 and continue. The author presents a problem at Locations 440-50 that reads somewhat like this, at the end of the first sentence, "... extends from spherical angle [?]1 to [?]2 and from [?]1 to [?]2." Obviously the Kindle reader cannot render the element and simply shows [?].

I suspect a student, not familiar with the subject, would favor the old-fashioned "physical" medium to the Kindle medium.

Editorial Review:

Gauss's law for electric fields, Gauss's law for magnetic fields, Faraday's law, and the Ampere-Maxwell law are four of the most influential equations in science. In this guide for students, each equation is the subject of an entire chapter, with detailed, plain-language explanations of the physical meaning of each symbol in the equation, for both the integral and differential forms. The final chapter shows how Maxwell's equations may be combined to produce the wave equation, the basis for the electromagnetic theory of light. This book is a wonderful resource for undergraduate and graduate courses in electromagnetism and electromagnetics. A website hosted by the author at www.cambridge.org/9780521701471 contains interactive solutions to every problem in the text as well as audio podcasts to walk students through each chapter.

Wild Animals I Have Known 2 out of 5 stars.
24 of 25 people found this review helpful.

This is a reprinting of a book of wonderful stories by Ernest Thompson Seton. But buyer beware. The publisher has excluded all 200 of the author's sketches and drawings that help the stories come alive for both younger and older readers. In addition, the design of the book is amateurish. Type is spread across the page, with extra spaces between paragraphs, nothing like the pleasing style of the original editions. This is a lifeless shadow of an American classic.

must read book to raise compassionate kids 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I've read this book way back when I was a kid growing up in Russia. I cried while reading about the pidgeon's fate, was happy when the rabbit was released, filled with respect for Lobo the wolf... It was one of the books that I'll always remember as being one of the greatest collection of stories. The language is simple yet exquisite, and the story flows so smoothly, you can read past midnight and not notice.
Not only that, that book gave me a better understanding of animals - not as we humans tend to humanize animal emotions and actions, but as real animals think and feel. It definitely made me change my perspective on many subjects - my treatment of nature, of animals, even human relationships.
All that when I was in my early teens. All that without any grownup having to "have a talk" with me or me even noticing that I got a "better understanding" of things.

Now that my son is growing up here, I'm getting him his copy of the book, and I'm quite hopeful that it will bring him a lot of enjoyment as well as food for thought.

Editorial Review:

Engrossing collection of 8 stories by a noted Canadian naturalist, illustrator, and painter masterfully blends scientific observation and romanticism. Memorable characters include Old Lobo, the leader of a wolfpack; Silverspot, a wise old crow; Raggylug, a young cottontail; Bingo, an errant hound; and other remarkable creatures. 200 engaging black-and-white illustrations by the author.

Not Helpful If You & All Your Loved Ones Are Immortal, But The Rest Of Us... 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Ms. Callanan and Ms. Kelley have written a guide of different ways patients may react in the process of dying and how everyone involved can be somewhat prepared for what happens towards the end of life. It is very much written in layman's terms. You won't have to worry about cracking open a dictionary for this baby. This book was a great help to my wife when she, her dad and her four siblings helped their dying mother. Many of the examples cited in this book did occur during the final week. The book is illuminating and will give the reader a great deal of comfort. Do yourself a favor and read it.

Editorial Review:

Five years after its first publication, with more than 150,000 copies in print, Final Gifts has become a classic. In this moving and compassionate book, hospice nurses Maggie Callanan and Patricia Kelley share their intimate experiences with patients at the end of life, drawn from more than twenty years experience tending the terminally ill.

Through their stories we come to appreciate the near-miraculous ways in which the dying communicate their needs, reveal their feelings, and even choreograph their own final moments; we also discover the gifts—of wisdom, faith, and love—that the dying leave for the living to share.

Filled with practical advice on responding to the requests of the dying and helping them prepare emotionally and spiritually for death, Final Gifts shows how we can help the dying person live fully to the very end.
